Product Description

Kate Beckett has always had a plan—get her professional life to the highest level, then focus on her personal life. She preferred things in a certain order and liked to check them off accordingly.

When her best friend loses her battle with cancer, Kate starts to wonder if maybe she's been living life all wrong. And, when letters from the dearly departed start to arrive, she is forced to take a look at her life and ask herself a very important question: “Are you happy?”

To honor her best friend's final wishes, Kate takes a chance in spontaneity that sends her straight into the arms of a man that was definitely not part of her plan. A man that is everything that makes her want to throw caution to the wind and live in the moment.

Now she must decide if living a life with regrets is something she can do or if she's willing to shake things up for a chance at true love.

This is the first in a new three book series by Contemporary Romance author Elizabeth Lee.

Kate was once part of a tightly knit group of four friends comprising of her, Willa, Vanessa and Hope. Tragically, with no thanks to the scourge of breast cancer, that group has been reduced to three.

Hope didn't just leave memories behind her though. She also left behind a husband to whom she entrusted their two adorable young children, and a box of letters. Knowing that she wasn't going to win her battle, Hope had written dozens of letters, not just ones to be read by her children on special occasions, but also some for her three best friends.

Even from the grave, Hope's first letter to Kate does what Hope always did best. Impart advice ... and meddle.

For her part, Kate feels compelled to honor her best friends dying wishes, even though what's being asked of her is something that she might have refused had Hope still been living.

Kate, ever the serious, level headed one of the group, the one who's already up for partner at the law firm she works at, has been asked to do something so foreign to her nature that she's not even sure she can, even if she wanted to.

Have fun.

Starting at Hope's funeral, Dear Kate by Elizabeth Lee is one of those books that brings a kaleidoscope of emotions. Grief and sadness, hope and joy, fear, wonder, doubt and love. It's all there and more.

Told first person from dual perspectives, it follows Kate and Deacon, a guy Hope thought would be a good match for Kate as they embark upon an emotional quest as Kate seeks to understand where true happiness lies and discover whether she has the courage to search it out.

Unlike many series, the two other best friends, Will and Vanessa, not only feature heavily, but we see aspects of their own stories start to unfold in the background even as the bulk of the attention is on Kate.

I found this book to be a fantastic read, full of heart and joy, and can hardly wait for the next two volumes in the series.

Favorite Quotes:

Dear Deacon, I hope this letter finds you well. As you may have heard – I’m dead.

For a split second she thought he might kiss the back of her hand – and she kind of wanted him to – but then she remembered what year it was.

Do you want me to kick his ass? … I will if you want. I’ve got some friends… I mean we’re all soccer dads and not really in prime fighting shape, but we could at least rough him up a little.

My Review:

Elizabeth Lee has mad skills and quickly pulled me into the story with her thoughtful writing and insightful narrative. Dear Kate was an entertaining and interesting story with a poignant and thought-provoking premise and a roster of compelling and enticing characters. Knowing she was losing her battle with cancer, an exceptionally perceptive young woman wrote an extensive collection of letters to her friends and family to opened at various specified times after her death. The writing was superb and well balanced between a budding romance, amusing humor, insightful inner musings, angst, and sensual steam. The characters were intriguing and uniquely flawed, and while they were not always likable they always continued to hold my interest. Kate’s dogged ambition led to selfish behaviors and she was often a jackass who was unable to see past her own nose. I adored Deacon; he was the quintessential BBF, smart, patient, funny, sexy, and multitalented in every room. He was perfection. As this installment concentrated mainly on Kate and laying the groundwork for the series, I am highly curious about the contents of the letters received by the family and other friends and am eagerly looking forward to the next installment.

What an unexpected and beautifully crafted romance. How do you move on when you lose your best friend? Kate, Vanessa and Willa and facing that reality but their friend Hope, the queen of lists, doesn’t leave this earth without leaving something behind. Hope left a box of letters with instructions on when to deliver for her husband Greyson. Kate’s letters from Hope force her to really look at her well-ordered, career driven, no fun, life. Is this really the path she should be following? This is a struggle for Kate but then Deacon enters her life, he had the high powered career and gave it up to freelance and make his office in an RV, loving every minute. This truly pushes all of Kate’s boundaries. Will she be able to let go of her anchors? At the same time, we get to experience how this amazing group of friends bands together to face their challenges while coping with their grief. I felt like I really got to know these characters and wanted to be a part of their circle. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching story of love and friendship 29 June 2017

There isn't a single thing that I didn't love about this book. This is a touching story about the importance of friendship, love, and finding happiness within yourself. I loved that this wasn't just a love story. It explored so many other things that are important in life like friendship and self worth. While the synopsis may make this sound like a sad read, it's not really. It gives you hope (which is fitting because of Hope in the story).

If you're looking for a story that makes you want to embrace everything in life, look no further. Once you start reading, you won't be able to stop because the characters grab you by the heart. I devoured it in one sitting. I can't wait to read more of Hope's letters in the next book.

Before Hope dies, she writes letters to her friends to be distributed after the reading of her will. Kate's letter encourages her to let loose and have a life outside of her work.
I liked the premise, and how the story plays out. I felt Kate and Deacon's connection from the first page they met. I loved this book, and can't wait for Willa's and Vanessa's.

5.0 out of 5 stars my 1st read of Elizabeth Lee's is such a beautifully written story 29 June 2017
By ElizrdbthSpeaks - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Dear Kate, my 1st read of Elizabeth Lee's is such a beautifully written story, (love her style.) a story about love, life, & finding happiness (some must needed balance) in your life. Kate Beckett and her 2 close friends Vanessa and Willa are dealing with an extreme huge loss of their best friend Hope (who was 32, who has left behind a husband & 2 young kids.) to breast cancer. My recommendation is be sure to have tissues handy. This is a very emotional read, I enjoy that, when an author is able to pull in (out, whichever you should say there?) of you the reader (but the author wrote it, so they did find the way to bring such emotion in their words you can feel it, appreciate the ability to make you the reader feel those words, any who!!) you can feel the emotions and it is so deep, raw at times. Love and very much enjoy the banter, plot and these characters are so well knitted together. Can't wait to see what else this author will write in the future. I see there are so many books I have yet to check out. This is a perfect summer time read, or a read that will warm your heart, eyes and toes. Must read, I loved it! Glad to be one of the 1st to lay eye on this beauty. Love the cover! Such a new fan! ( ;
4.0 out of 5 stars 4.25 Dear Kate Stars!!! 29 June 2017
By Ms.Meesh - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Dear Kate by Elizabeth Lee is a sentimental, inspiring, and uplifting story of love, life, happiness and friendship. This is one of those special and rare stories that can relate to anyone not just romance fans. Life is about living it to the fullest and are you doing that? Am I? And so begins a dramatic and soulful journey of three best friends as they navigate what life has in store for them? To what new chapters they must embark on and what chapters they must put an end to?

Death. It’s a part of life. There is no escaping it and for some, death comes knocking on your door when you are the peak of living life. So when one of Kate Beckett’s best friend, Hope dies at the young age of 32 and leaves behind her two young children and husband, it devastates her, Willa, and Vanessa who were also Hope’s best friends. They knew Hope’s time was coming to an end after her long battle with cancer but it is never easy saying goodbye.

Thirty days from her death, Hope told her friends and husband that they were to open her Living Will & Testament. In this will, she informs her three friends and husband that they all have letters that needs to be opened on the assigned dates. And the first letter/story that readers get a glimpse into is Kate Beckett.

Kate is a litigation lawyer who is working her way to make partner. Her life is consumed with work, work, and more work leaving her little time to relax and enjoy life. And so in Hope’s first letter addressed to Kate, she tells her friend to live a little. Enjoy life because life is too short. Little does Kate know that Hope also mailed a letter to her husband’s old college roommate whom she wants Kate to meet.

Kate and Deacon hit it off immediately. They are both sexually attracted to one another and Deacon has the personality that intrigues Kate. While Kate is living in the fast and rich lane, Deacon left that life behind. He walked away from a high paying job because it didn’t make him happy. It didn’t fulfill his soul and so he does freelance investment works.

The old Kate should be turned off by Deacon’s choice of work and lifestyle but as she reads more letters from Hope, she realizes that Hope was right. Deacon makes her happy. He makes her see that there is more to life than work. But what happens when Kate is given the opportunity to make partner and Deacon is hitting the road, what will Kate chose?

Dear Kate is a beautiful story of life, love and happiness. This book was a perfect summer weekend read as it is a reminder to us all, to not let life pass you by. Find your soul. Find your tribe. Find your happiness. And most importantly, find something that makes you feel alive. With Kate finding her way, the next letter/installment will be of Willa, whom I am so excited for. I can’t wait for Willa’s story because she is someone who I can relate to. So if you are looking for a story that will ignite a fire into you to breathe and start living, then Dear Kate is the book for you.
