Can two girls find peace after going through so much heartache? Is it possible to move on when you have been hurt so bad??
If your looking for an emotional read then this is certainly your book. I highly recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading more of the characters I've met in this book in the next book.
Received in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed Dear Emily and found the characters real and likeable but because the story jumped back and forward I didn't get particularly attached to them. Sometimes going back it felt like there had been a huge bit missing!
The story is heart breaking, happy and sad ( and often both at the same time) and very real, too real!! It's definitely up there on the tears scale! In all 8/10

Dear Emily is a compelling and deeply profound story of innocence, love, loss, survival and hope. A journey of two women who couldn't be more polar opposite, only for fate to throw them together in the most exceptional of circumstances. The writing flows with perfect synchronisation between its past and present scene structures making for a full-embodied read that will captivate and hold your heart within its written pages, until the very end.
Trudy Stiles has entered the Indie writers world with an impressive boom - get ready for the shockwaves to hit, because this is one debut you do not want to miss! - Kelly, Perusing Princesses.
Carly is one of four siblings from a loving and nurturing family home. A bright, beautiful, carefree college student with a solid friend support network, as she follows her dream to become a teacher.
Tabitha is an orphan. Fostered from birth by the hospital nurse that found her abandoned in the Ambulance bay, life seemed comfortable until the age of seven, when her only nurturing hand was ripped away in a tragic accident. After being subjected to many a foster home, she finally spread her wings and fled at 17, only to capture the attentions of an abusive bar owner.
Carly's life takes a tragic turn when she is brutally attacked after a Halloween Party. This comes with its own set of repercussions as it strips her not only of her innocence but the chances of bearing a child of her own.
Tabitha has lost everything, she is a broken shell of the young girl she once was. Escaping from the confines of the man who made her life a misery, she heads back to her birthplace of Philadelphia in the hope of finding a fresh start.
In walks Alex, a musician and the man who finally shows Tabitha what it's like to love. Everything is wonderful, until that pivotal moment when one small mistake destroys everything. Only this time she is not alone. Seth, her new best friend tries his hardest to help pick up the broken pieces as he eases the hurt and promises his love for her will be enough to fix them. The only problem is they are both not ready to be parents. Tabitha is pregnant, and Alex is never coming back, so she makes the hardest decision of her life when she decides to give her baby Daughter that grows in her womb, up for open adoption.
Carly and Kyle are ecstatic when they get the call that a young expecting Mother has chosen them to adopt her child. Finally...everything is falling into place, their happily ever after is in their sights. Although Emily isn't born yet, she's already such a special baby, and not just to her new parents Carly and Kyle, but to Tabitha, the girl who has lost everything, and is about to give up the most important thing in her world... Again!
This story is unique in a way that is so magic that it will capture you, enthrall you, and won't let you go until the very final page, and even then... you will finish this story wanting book two in your hands with immediate effect.
These two women are ordinary, there's nothing extraordinary about them and yet when they come together, the result is electrifying... emotionally charged, with an undertone of understanding and hope as they gradually get to know one-another. Carly is perfect in Tabitha's eyes, and she can't help but feel jealous of the woman who is to become Emily's mother because in her own eyes Tabitha is not perfect, but her selflessness when it comes to her baby is admirable and heart-wrenching to the reader and you want to shake her and tell her that she is... that she is the most beautiful girl in the world. I couldn't see a way out for her and it broke my heart. And yet, Carly and Kyle deserve a baby and I wanted Emily to have a home with them. Conflicted emotions, maybe? Yes, but I wouldn't change anything about this story, in-fact, I want to shout from the rooftops how beautiful this book is, even though it's poignancy made my heart clench. It made for one amazing read that I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
Trudy Stiles deserves a world of praise for taking on this writing project because writing about abuse and rape has to be one of the hardest things to submerge yourself in, but then to add an adoption case and the myriad of emotions that comes with such a process was a total work of literal genius that I'm still basking in it. I'm in awe. I'm in love with these characters and this story and I cannot wait to continue this family's journey in book two.
This series has New York Times Bestseller written all over it.
I was excited buying this - it touches on very difficult topics such as domestic abuse, rape, bullying, lost/broken love, fear, homelessness, adoption and so on - the list is actually neverending. But, unfortunately, for me at least - the writing just doesn't live up to the promise of the storyline, and if I'm honest, I'm not sure that I'm going to finish reading the book.
As is the case with many Kindle-edition books that are first novels, or from writers who don't necessarily have the hard copies published (I don't know if that is true in this case), it is clear when books haven't been proofed to the standards of others - for examples, reading words repeatedly like "snot" when someone is crying, "smelly" when it's musty / unclean / unhygenic, and so on isn't at all appealing to the eye or the mind when picturing the scene. Repetitions of "a cute dimple I'd like to lick" and such, for the first time yes are descriptive but over repeatedly whenever this guy is brought into a scene, is uneeded and banal. And so on.
But kudos for coming up with the storyline, and the letters to Emily certainly are well thought out from both sides! Perhaps I'll read a bit more tomorrow and see does it impress further. As for the review - read the synopsis, read the reviews, try a teaser if you can get one before committing to buy. At the very least it certainly doesn't break the bank, if like me, you buy and then think perhaps not :)
Carly and Tabitha are polar opposites but equally wonderful characters and my heart went out to them both. In fact my heart went out to the men of the book also. Told from both ladies perspectives, it covers past and present so we really get to know them and those closest to them. I have read books in the past where multi-character shifts in time don't work, but I can honestly say it works perfectly and flows very well.
I won't give any of the story away, but what I will say is that my emotions were touched and my feelings were a little torn on more than one occasion. These ladies have dealt with some of the worst things that can happen to someone, the difference being one has a support system, the other doesn't. But amongst it all is hope. I can't wait to see how Tabitha's story will unfold and is a book I highly recommend.
Beautifully and fluently written, this is the story of two women who have both endured trauma and pain in their lives, and we see how their lives become entwined due to their pasts.
The book flits between past and present, and the characters are all detailed in such a way they we are slowly drawn to each of them. I loved Carly and Kyle and their friends, and Tabitha destroyed my heart. She is such a lost and beautiful soul, that I hope and pray that she will get the happiness she so truly deserves in Dear Tabitha.
This is truly a remarkable read, and I beg you to buy this. I cried through nearly all of this book, but the ending broke me. It was such an emotional and heart wrenching journey, and this story will stay with me for a very long time.
Please, if you can only buy one more book, buy this one! It is incomprehensible that this is a debut novel. A truly talented author.
