Product Description

Dear Agony,

You've been my shadow, following me through childhood—filling my days and nights with terror and uncertainty. You cleverly disguised yourself as some form of pain or suffering as I grew into a young woman. We were unwavering companions … until I severed our ties.

I traded homelessness on the streets of New Orleans for a luxurious bed covered by the finest linens.
I traded dumpster diving for dinner in the finest restaurants.
I traded myself to a stranger—Bastien Pascal.

I have a good life within my platonic and mutually beneficial companionship with Bash.
He’s my friend. My mentor. My roommate.
Until everything changes.

I’m not supposed to get goosebumps when his hand brushes my skin.
I’m not supposed to be eager for his soothing touch following one of my nightmares.
I’m not supposed to think about what might happen if I reached out to him in the darkness.

Falling in love with him? Preposterous . . . unavoidable.

Agony, why are you back with a vengeance to rob me of this life I’ve come to love so dearly?

I’m finally happy. Don’t ruin this for me.

Always yours,

In this epic love story, Dear Agony forges a connection between an unlikely pair—a beautiful rose entwined in barbed wire and a shipwreck sinking into the darkest depths of the ocean. This agonizing romantic novel poses some gut-wrenching questions: What does a woman do when the man she loves is planning his own demise? And how far will she go to give him something to live for?

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from Maxwell Author Services*

This is an automatic favorite book to add to the shelves for making me cry and laugh so much. I swear, it felt like I was crying every few pages, it was so sad. Truly did master the title and make me feel like Agony was a long acquainted friend.

Bash has a secret and a plan that he won't tell Rose about until it's too late, but Rose refuses to give up on him. I thought the whole thing was really sweet and intense when it came to the more gritty things of reality. It was hot, heartfelt and entertaining. A few things felt strung out but when it comes to stubborn people who refuse to change, it can feel like you're immobile. You should read this because of how sweet the love story is, how fast they click and how fast they fall with the obligations and responsibilities thrown between them. The whole thing was dramatic but intense and something I really couldn't put down even if I tried, it was that good. Read it, if you really like contemporary romances with people that need that extra kick for good behavior.

I really enjoyed reading this story. In certain parts it reminds me of Me Before You but it takes a completely different spin on it.

Rose Middleton is a nineteen year old girl who is living on the streets trying to make a living as a street performer. One day she approaches this woman who has been watching her for a few days. Vale runs her own business and offers Rose a job in her Companion service.
Bastien Pascal is Vale's best friend and is fighting a losing battle. As investor in Vale's business, he requests Rose to be his companion. This is Bastien and Rose's story.

It's an emotional and heart-warming story of an unexpected romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Give Up 2 June 2017

Wow! Georgia Cates is just proving why she is such an amazing author yet again. Dear Agony took me on a ride I didn't want to get off. You have a woman who is living hand to mouth being raised from the streets to living in style and richness. This truly is a journey not only of self discovery but self worth. Bastien Pascal is a troubled man but he wants some happiness in his life and he tries to find so much more. Rose just wants to be happy and being with Bastian gives her happiness yet she is secretly seeking more. Be Careful what you ask for. This truly is an amazing read that had me running the whole gamut of emotions. I loved it and I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Is Precious 1 June 2017

So many FEELS after reading this story! I'll admit, at the beginning of this book, I wondered how this story was going to play out and was concerned maybe I had read something similar. Turns out, that is not the case, I enjoyed the uniqueness of this storyline and loved the plot twists. I'm pretty sure I'm as fond of Rose as Bash is and love the unfolding story through his eyes. Rose, bless her heart, wise beyond her years but had to grow up to fast and learn how to care for herself, she's an inspiration for sure.

This is a story of Love healing even the darkest, scariest part of life! Love can see you through anything as long as you don't have to face it alone! You will love Bastien and Rose's story! This is a bond that no matter what is thrown at it, it survives! A must read!

I can't believe it took me so long to read this book I've had for awhile and just decided to read it and I absolutely loved the relationship growth of Rose and Bastien. Everything they went through and where they ended up shows you what real love is and what it should always be like. Thank you Georgia for writing this beautiful and emotional love story.

I don't know why it took me so long to read this book. It was one of the most beautifully written books. Bastian and Rose's story was unique and heart wrenching. Loved every word!
