Product Description

Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas.

The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.

Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect.

What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.

I've read all Marianas books and always look forward to her next release. This book did not disappoint. At first I could'nt get into the emails and texting chapters but they grew on me as I developed a feel for the characters and storyline..it was worth persevering as the continuing story after Ruby and Aaron meet is beautiful!! I was thoroughly entertained by all characters in this book. I'm going to miss Ruron.

I'm a big fan of Mariana Zapata as are a gazillion other readers. Her signature 'slow burn' featured strongly in Dear Aaron, along with her ever present touch of brilliance when telling a story. She really occupies a place of her own in this genre.
At first I thought I'd have to give Dear Aaron under 5 stars because a chunk of the book is dedicated to emails, Skype and texts. It was an unexpected approach by the author, but, once I got into the rhythm of her writing and adjusted my preconceptions, I understood Mariana's intent - wanting to write a deeply character-based novel, focusing on the journey and the formation of an emotional bond first (even more so than any of her previous works), before any physical contact. These were certainly challenging aims, but I think Mariana pulled it off well.
Dear Aaron was also multilayered, offering clever banter, funny scenes, touching and honest revelations and poignant exchanges between two wonderful, but ordinary people. And yes, there were finally scintillating and tantalising physical love scenes to enjoy.
Mariana's writing style requires patience from readers, as she never rushes and is committed to delayed gratification, but the rewards are always exquisite and enduring for her characters, and as an extension, her readers. The epilogue was absolutely appropriate for this book and I liked it very much. The HEA was implied (I've become a little tired of the long and drawn out after story of the actual story) and I was satisfied with the length and content at the end.
Was Dear Aaron better than my all-time Zapata favourite contempory romance, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me? Not quite. I admit that I prefer the experience of face-to-face interactions, dialogue and body language. Nevertheless, Dear Aaron was a very real story that was told beautifully and in a natural and uncontrived way. It will be another keeper in my elibrary.

I loved it! And I loved it HARD. Not because it was a Mariana Zapata novel, which I have only recently discovered and cherish each and every one of them. It was because of the words on the page, and how superb they were, every single one of them.

It is not a spoiler to say that the first third of this book is letters, emails and messages between a young woman in Houston and an Army Staff Sergeant stationed overseas. I found it a refreshing and clever way to get to know these two characters and how they interacted was realistic and authentic and funny. Ruby and Aaron form a budding friendship that turns into being best friends and sounding boards for problems they are both facing.

I respected these characters immensely. We all have different personalities and not everyone is overly confident and out going. It takes some life experiences and maturing to find out who we are. I get that, especially when Rubes was at the airport...... OMGosh, I felt for her. I have been that girl. I have had that feeling of not knowing what to do next, did I make the wrong choice, and everything else she felt in that moment. My heart thumping right along with her. Aaron is my choice of a partner. He was respectful, endearing, witty and supportive. He is nudging The Wall off my top shelf some.

True to form for a MZ book, it took a while for them to become a couple, but when they did, magic. I wasn't sure about the ending when I finished, but on reflection, I think it ended perfectly for these two. It came full circle and reading between the lines, I am happy for them. I only have one more book from MZ's collection to round them out, and I can't Wait For It!

I did not want this book to end...EVER! Each of Mariana Zapata's novels are so unique. Dear Aaron turned the uniqueness up full blast. The element of conversation on emails and instant messages between the two main characters is genius. It felt so REAL.

The character development is so strong and realistic. It genuinely made me feel the bond growing between Aaron and Ruby. This book will make you FEEL!

"Looking back on it, it’s weird thinking about the moments you don’t realize are important. The sentences, the touches, the actions that seem so innocent in that second, you take them for granted. The words that make water into wine in the course of your life. But I would never forget the way his words made me feel. The way he made me feel right then."

Ruby and Aaron are One-Click away from you. I highly recommend this book to all readers who are looking for a real romance told in a unique setting.

Thank you, Mariana Zapata. I look forward to each and every one of your books.
