Product Description

“This book was amazing from the start. I couldn’t put it down from start to finish.”
–D&T’s Love of Books

Looks aren’t the only things that can be deceiving…

When a sixty-eight-year-old woman is found dead outside the hospital in a wheelchair with an anti-abortion sign strapped to its back, Detective Madison Knight expects it to be an open-and-shut case. On the surface, there are no signs of foul play, but the deeper she digs, the more convoluted the homicide becomes. And when two more bodies appear, including those of a girl just barely old enough to drink and a homeless man, the direct links between the three murders are anything but simple.

Without a consistent MO, Madison doesn’t buy that a serial killer is on the loose, despite the conviction with which her ex-fiancé and fellow detective try to convince their superior. But Madison already has enough to juggle without having to defend her reputation. Debilitating flashbacks of being held hostage by the Russian Mafia mere months before haunt her on an almost daily basis, and the promises she made to herself while in captivity are becoming more and more difficult to keep. Learning to trust is hard enough without constant reminders of what destruction—fatal or otherwise—trusting the wrong person can cause.

Now, as both personal and professional friction within the department mounts, she and her partner, Terry, must figure out what motivation could span generations to cause someone to murder these people. But catching this killer is like grasping at straws, and grabbing the wrong one could mean losing not only her pride but also her boyfriend, her credibility, and her faith in humanity…

I don't know if I really like the main character. She drives me mad sometimes. Good story though and I'm sure I'll be reading another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grabbed Me! 5 July 2016
By L. Jenkins - Published on Amazon.com

The premise enticed me so I bought a Kindle copy of the book from Amazon.

This book immediately grabbed my attention and I was caught up in the story so much that I just did not want to put the book down. Madison Knight is a cynical, tough as nails detective who hates political game playing and kowtowing to her superiors. Her attitude can sometimes come across as brash, but she just wants to figure out the case and get justice for the victims.

I loved Madison - most of the time. Her straight-arrow partner, Terry is an almost perfect match for her feisty personality. Terry’s wife is due to deliver their first child and Terry struggles to juggle home and job, even while Madison is facing down her own personal demons while trying to conquer her commitment phobia.

I am definitely interested in reading the other books in this series. I love the fact that each book is complete and stands on its own so I can read the series out of order if I choose to.

3.0 out of 5 stars I have read and enjoyed the previous Madison Knight novels 7 November 2015

I have read and enjoyed the previous Madison Knight novels. Deadly Impulse has a suspenseful plot that will keep you guessing on the real perpetrator. However, I found myself aimlessly turning pages during all the Madison Knight monologues where she's constantly second guessing her choices or creating scenarios that hold her back when it comes to her personal life. It's time for the author to get Madison beyond all her previous morass and move her forward with a lively social life and unencumbered romance. By now, it is bordering on reader boredom (at least for me).

4.0 out of 5 stars THEY RECOGNIZED BUT NO ID 20 June 2017
By Ellen Oceanside - Published on Amazon.com

DEADLY IMPULSE by Carolyn Arnold "Madison Knight" book 6 What is the connection with an elderly woman in a wheelchair, dead along the side of the road. Hanging around her neck, "put an end to abortion" . The wheelchair number is that of a missing wheelchair. Madison thought, hoped it would be an easy case, who and why of the case, to solve. They recognized the picture, she was a protestor, but the name, no one knew. A good plot, as you read, and try to figure out why an elder woman met her death this way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Though I love a good series 16 March 2016

Though I love a good series, Madison was a rogue detective that was totally out of control yet no one stopped her. It wasn't the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I could have hoped for 30 December 2015

Wow! what a ride! This was a great read and the author should be pleased with what she wrote. Madison is a very conflicted woman, and it shows. I could had done without her remembering so often her experience with the Russian mob but it did turn out to be an important part of the story. Would recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery. All the clues are there to solve it, just read carefully. Great read, looking forward to the next one.
