I have to admit I don't read many ghost stories but I do enjoy a good survival story. You know, when a young girl or boy gets lost in the woods and is stalked by some mysterious creature. Or a crazed madman with an axe. Well this had all of that and more.
Sam is an up and coming artist who is spending the week in her uncles remote cabin hoping for inspiration to strike. Virtually from day one she starts seeing strangers out on the dock and things start moving around the cabin. Is she sleep-walking or is someone visiting at night? Honestly, it was hard to feel sympathetic for Sam. Who voluntarily spends time in the woods? Even in a cabin. No electricity, no running water, food from a can. No thanks. But there was enough suspense to keep me powering through this one in one sitting. This is the second book I've read by Darcy Coates and I'm seeing a theme but I love her writing and can't wait for more to come.
