well written and told with a sense of complete realism.
It was hard not to believe everything Wendy Webb wrote as she constructed a tale woven through a full century linking the past with the present in a ghostly tale of romance and woe.
It's a very long time since I have enjoyed anything as much as I have this book.
The characters are very alive and clear, they talk as if they were in the room and you were there in your ghostly form living their lives unseen by them - as indeed you are.
The descriptions of the Great Lake, the spirit of the Great Lake and the myths and legends were compelling, so much so that I suspect the author included known legends she has accessed through research - or maybe no.
The descriptions of the two towns on the lake's edge, the differences and changes that have taken place over the intervening years bring the place alive with colour.
This is a book you should read if you have even one small bone of acceptance of ghostly lives, it is very very convincing.
