From the Editor

I’m from Tennessee and have always had a soft spot for gothic fiction—Flannery O’Connor, William Faulkner, Cormac McCarthy, Ron Rash. I simply love authors who explore the darker side of human nature. And as soon as I began reading Wendy Webb’s Daughters of the Lake, I knew I had another name to add to my list of favorites. When, in the first few pages, Kate discovers a mysterious body on the lakeshore of her family home—a body she recognizes only from her dreams—Webb had me hook, line, and sinker.

Daughters of the Lake has everything my gothic-loving heart could possibly desire, and then some—long-buried family secrets at the bottom of a mist-shrouded lake, scandals silenced for a century, unsolved mysteries desperate to be unraveled, murder and madness, and a final twist that I definitely did not see coming. Webb’s latest is a clever mystery, an epic love story, a multigenerational family saga, and an ancient legend all combined in one heart-racing novel.

About the Author

Wendy Webb knew from the minute she read A Wrinkle in Time at age eleven that she was destined to be a writer. After two decades as a journalist, writing for varied publications including USA Today, the Huffington Post, the Star Tribune, Midwest Living, and others, Wendy wrote her first novel, The Tale of Halcyon Crane. When it won the 2011 Minnesota Book Award for genre fiction, she started writing fiction full-time. Her second and third novels, The Fate of Mercy Alban and The Vanishing, established her as a leading suspense novelist, whom reviewers are calling the Queen of the Northern Gothic. She lives in Minneapolis and is at work on her next novel. Visit her online at www.wendykwebb.com and on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram as wendywebbauthor.
