Product Description

Ginger knows that practical choices guarantee a stable life, which is why she chose a career as an office manager. Her job provides a steady paycheck, but it also has her snoozing at her desk. She wishes she'd pursued her passion for interior decorating rather than business.

She’s also trying to forget Greg Shaffer—the gorgeous emergency room doctor she met at a dance club last month. Her dad was an emergency room doctor and the stress of the job turned him into a raging alcoholic, which didn’t exactly create happy childhood memories.

Ginger believes donating her decorating services to her friend’s charity auction is the perfect fix for both her problems. She'll get a break from the daily grind, get her creative juices flowing, and stay so busy she'll finally forget about Greg.

But then Greg ends up buying the condo right above her. Even worse, he deliberately wins the bid on her auction item. Greg seems determined to prove to Ginger that practicality has nothing on passion. And as Ginger brings beauty into Greg's world, how can she possibly resist the beauty he brings to hers?

Ginger has spent her whole life doing exactly what's expected of her, including donating her hobby of decorating to a charity auction because she was asked to. When she sees Greg, the guy she has thought of constantly since meeting him a month ago, at the auction it makes her start to think things she doesn't want to.

A sweet romance that brings a smile to face, the characters are endearing and even though I hadn't read the previous 7 books I totally loved this one. This is the first book I've read by Susan, and I'll definitely be looking up her other books now. If you enjoy a romance story that makes you feel good, then you will love this

3/5 stars--UP TO DATE is the eighth storyline in Susan Hatler’s Better Date Than Never contemporary romance series of novellas focusing on a group of tight knit women and friends. This is Greg and Ginger’s storyline. Ginger has been present throughout much of the series and is friends with many of the previous storyline heroines.

The storyline follows Ginger from office manager to lay off to up and coming interior designer. Ginger offers up her decorating services as part of an auction to raise funds for a homeless outreach program never thinking that the man who occupies her every thought is the winner of her donation.

Enter Dr. Greg Shaffer; a young physician who had previously captured Ginger’s heart and imagination, but a man with whom Ginger is unable to open up and fall in love. An unhappy childhood has left Ginger defeated and unwilling to compromise where her heart is concerned. She struggles with her feelings for Greg and in this there are several moments of push and pull that raised the anxiety level for this reader.

A prior relationship had already been established. Greg and Ginger had met previously and neither one had forgotten about the other. Now that Greg is Ginger’s new neighbor, there isn’t anything stopping Ginger from getting close-except her heart.

UP TO DATE is a sweet, romantic storyline; a chic-lit novella with a happily ever after. There is no sex; no graphic language or violence. Susan Hatler offers up a series of quick, simple and clean reads with a happily ever after for everyone involved.

2.0 out of 5 stars this is what gives romance novels a bad name 3 August 2015

I have read Susan Hatler books before and liked them but this one was really disappointing. I almost didn't bother to finish.

On and on and on Ginger droned about her dad's drinking being why she can't try with the hot ER doc Greg who clearly wanted her. Not quite sure why he kept trying after all the times she turned him down.

How many times did she have to explain why she was turning him down? We get it! Your dad was a raging alcoholic ER doc who dealt with the stress and sadness of what happens in the ER with booze and so you didn't want the same life. How many times do you have to explain it in the book? Once or twice would have sufficed.

Her sister Mary Ann was ridiculous and took advantage of her. Getting facials but can't afford her half of the rent? Grow up and quit covering for her! And her mom. Seriously, how old are you that you'd let your mom get away with controlling your life?

By the end I wasn't even rooting for her to get the guy - he was too good and nice for her and she was too stubborn and judged people not by their behavior but by her dad's behavior. I also found it frustrating that even though she was adamant she didn't want kids, she all of a sudden changes her mind after feeling her friend's baby move in her belly at a shower. Eye roll.

The one thing I liked was the characters, even the cats, being named after Gilligans Island characters.

Love Gilligan s island then you will enjoy this book! We have Ginger, who does things for everyone and forgets about herself. MaryAnne, although I found her a bit selfish in this book, thinking of herself. Ginger meets a doctor that she thinks is to much like her dad, enter an alcoholic selfish father. A mother who just knows what's best: painting is a good hobby but you need a real job, dear. And you have a great combination. This is a novella with punch! A great read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick read without the fuss..... 3 August 2015

This was my first read in the series and it was an okay story, I just didn't connect with the characters. Ginger was nice and sweet but a total pushover where her family was concerned. The moments with them was a hard pill to swallow. Her sister was an absolute selfish, self obsrbed leach who took advantage of Ginger' sisterly responsibility and her mom came across as cold and unsupportive. Instead of giving Ginger the benefit of the doubt, she was ready to think the worst of her daughter's circumstance then tried railroading her back into something she was truly miserable with. A part that threw me off was how she treated her "friend" and colleague when she receiveed the news that she was being laid off. Her attitude and comments just didn't fit her character, came across as petulant and childish. Especially considering how she lets her mother and sister runs her over. Then there's the budding romance between her and the doctor. Her fear and misgivings were understandable due to her own upbringing but it felt weak to me. I may have skipped a few paragraphs when she was in this zone. Although I mostly enjoy stories that included perspectives from both characters I'm sure it's not easy trying to guess what goes on in the mind of the opposite sex much less try to represent them. Otherwise it wasn't bad and I enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning To Let Go 8 November 2016

This series must be read in order. The first book is Love At First Date. The second book is Truth Or Date. The third book is My Last Blind Date. The fourth book is Save The Date. The fifth book is A Twist Of Date. The sixth book is License To Date. The seventh book is Driven To Date. This is the eighth book. I can't wait to read Déjà Date!

Ginger has always been the responsible one... Even though she is artistic and loves art. Her parents talked her out of her Art Major in college and into a Business Management degree. Her friend talked her into donating her decorating skills to a charity silent auction and she is beyond nervous. How can anyone want her to decorate for them? She has zero qualifications or experience! On top of that she can't get Greg out of her mind. He is totally wrong for her. An ER doc just like her alcoholic father. He probably wants kids too! Can she resist the urge to draw closer to the man she finds irresistible even though she knows he is then opposite of what is sensible? Can she has her get past her rotten childhood and make a life of her own? Or will she always do the thing that is expected of her even though itnkills her dreams?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romance with pop culture references 24 December 2016
By Nancy Levine "Nancy" - Published on

I liked all of the books I've read in this series, and enjoyed this one as well. Ginger and Greg are great together and I understood why she was afraid to date an ER doctor because of her dad. I loved the names of the kitties, and the pop culture references to "Gilligan's Island." If Ginger's
last name had been Howell, all the characters from the show would have been represented. I love how Ginger stands up to her mother and sister. Mary Ann got on my nerves because she had a job and still couldn't pay the rent--some people really have problems paying for rent, etc., but Mary Ann had a job and still couldn't pay. I liked the charity that Ginger supported who helped homeless people find homes, jobs, etc.
