Darwin's Sword: Savannah is an enticing tale of time travel, erotica, and 'what ifs.'

We are catapulted from 19th century London to the 21th Century, and back again, several times. Savannah in on a mission to save humanity and uncover the secret motives behind an evil Kettelgian leader, who seems to have an apocalyptic vision of the universe. This book has everything, from elements of Blade Runner to Fifty Shades of Grey. The inventive plot works on three levels: as an intriguing science fiction concept, a realistic character study and a futuristic concept of what would be if time travel were possible. Author C.P. McClennan has a truly unique style of penmanship, and a fine command of the English language. If you like the genre of time travel, I can highly recommend this one. It set me up and has me waiting eagerly for the third in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enormously entertaining - hold tight for the ride! 3 April 2016
By Rachel de Vine - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I suppose I knew what sort of a read I was going to get when I opened the first page and saw ‘The End?’ at the top of the page. Having read the first book of this series, however, I was prepared. This author likes to play fast and loose with time frames, jumping backwards and forwards, and between a variety of characters, some of whom have appeared before and some who haven’t, until I felt my head spinning. However, the secret, I have found, is just to plough on through the story until, one by one, the elements of the story slot into place.

In this, the second of three books, we meet real-life characters from 19th century London, and futuristic characters, figments of the author’s mind and imagination. And what an imagination! We flash backwards and forwards in time, adding extra characters and increasing the body count as we go. There is some hot sex, and not all of it leads to piles of ash on the floor (you will have to read it to find out). But what we do not yet know is whether Savannah will succeed in saving the remaining humans from extinction, so it looks as though I will have to wait until Book 3 comes out, in the hope that all the loose ends will be tied up and we will know if the sexy siren Savannah will prove to be their saviour.

The author, C.P. McClennan has a wonderful imagination and a subtle wit and, I suspect, a sharp brain, and the reader sometimes has to work hard to see where he is going with the story, but I thoroughly enjoy his work and find it enormously entertaining, and have no hesitation in giving him five stars for this story. I look forward to the final part.
