DARLINE MEETS EARL BRUMBACH
Darline Flowers, a charming blonde in her late twenties, anxiously awaits a job interview with top executive Earl Brumbach. What Darline doesn’t know is that Brumbach has a notorious reputation of longstanding sexual harassment involving many female employees of Maximus Food Products. He has been reprimanded several times by company president, Clayton Weimar, to "keep it in your pants, Earl." The company’s top executives look the other way under the "good ole' boy" rule of male domination, all too common in the corporate world of that era. Brumbach is a ruthless, out-of-control, sexual predator and Darline is applying for the position of his Executive Secretary.
BRUMBACH COMES AFTER HER
It doesn’t take long for Brumbach to take after the beautiful and voluptuous Darline. She spends her days performing a difficult corporate juggling act. She tries to concentrate on the duties of the tension-filled position of executive secretary, while also trying to stay away from Brumbach’s busy hands. Her sex-crazed boss even hints to Darline that she can move up very fast at Maximus if she would just cooperate with him. She knows what that means. The extent of his misguided passion for her is evident during a conversation he has with another young executive:
"I know she’s got strong feelings for me," Brumbach said. "I know she wants me. I just know it. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I’d get rid of my wife in a minute."
"She surely is a pretty woman," Dale said.
"You stay the hell away from Darline." A look of fury crossed Brumbach’s face. He was the older stallion facing a potential adversary, and establishing his rights for the young filly.
"Earl, I’m going with Betsy. I’m happy with her. You know that."
"Just make damned sure you stay away from her. I’m going to marry her. It may take me a while to win her over, but she’ll be mine someday."
JULIE KNOWS BRUMBACH WELL
Darline becomes friendly with another employee, Julie DuBois. At lunch one day Julie describes, in great detail, the background of the bad boy, Brumbach. He once waged a campaign against Julie, but she cleverly avoided him. She advises Darline.
WHAT DOES DARLINE DO ABOUT BRUMBACH?
Every day, Brumbach becomes more obsessed with his fantasy of totally possessing Darline. Finally, his advances become unbearable to her. He does the unthinkable:
"She stood directly in front of Brumbach, holding the glass of Scotch in her left hand and the cigarette case in her right. In an instant, he took advantage of her temporary vulnerability. With the enormous strength generated by his desire, he ripped open the front of her suit jacket. Buttons flew all over. Darline was only wearing a half-slip so he had direct access to her bra. He pressed tight against her, reached both hands around to the back of her bra and ripped it open. The bra dropped to the floor and Brumbach's eyes widened in awe as Darline’s perfectly formed, quite large breasts, stared out at him. She was temporarily paralyzed, still holding the Scotch and cigarette case. It all happened in a few seconds."
Darline realizes it can’t go on like this. But what can she do? You’ll be fascinated by Darline and how she finally handles her loathsome boss. This story is sometimes humorous, and is always full of suspense. It vividly shows you, the reader, the workplace sexual harassment of women which was too often present in the 1960’s. You’ll be captivated by this story, right up to the thrilling and unexpected finale.
