Really enjoyed this short story. It was an easy read with a fast paced story line. Truly recommend for anyone that hasn't got a lot of time but enjoys sci fi horror.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting mix of paranormal and sci fi 23 October 2016
By Carol Holland March - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is a short paranormal, sci fi story about scientists in the military who developed a machine that created more trouble than they anticipated. The writing is competent, although in such a short piece, with more than one point of view, I didn't really connect well with any of the characters. There were so many characters, the author did not have time for more than a superficial take on any of them. The material could benefit from a longer form, in my opinion.

There is a lot of material in this piece which is interesting because it places the paranormal within a scientific context and it attempts to explain an historical event in a new way. Recommended for sci fi and paranormal readers who enjoy a scientific take on familiar tropes.
I also enjoyed the positive attitude toward the lesbian characters, and would have liked to have seen that relationship developed further.
4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Turn On The Machine! 14 November 2016

Don’t turn on the machine!

Darkness In The Shadows is a short, horror story perfect for the Halloween season. The Russians have a spy embedded in a secret American testing facility experimenting with a new weapon that will thrust their enemies into Darkness.

The story was solid for the genre with a delightfully twisted ending. For me, it sits more along the line of horror than science fiction, although there is a fair sprinkling of technical terms in the story that add weight to the horrific scenes.
