I liked the French WW2 element of the story. I wish there had been more about France and the German occupation. Ultimately the story was too slow for me and not enough action. Hard to put yourself there. When it flashed back to after the war, back in England, it lost it. So dreary.
Five stars for this well written book! Great characters, great plot, and good insight into life in France during the war. The whole story felt totally believable. Did not want to put this book down and then felt sad when I had finished it!
Really liked this book a lot. Quite surprised about the depth and detail knowing Clara's style of writing...however it did not disappoint! Loved the book, the characters were well written and believeable. Would welcome more. Have to say I love Freddie but do miss Angela!!
I really enjoyed this book, it took me away from the romances that I have read lately and gave me something to really get into. Scary but gripping and I couldn't get enough of it, didn't want it to end. Brilliant
I enjoyed this book.It was different to my usual kind of books, but I would have liked the story to go further and the boy Rex and his mother go back to Paris and clear her sister Maggies name. Still a good read though.
Through all of the misery a nd hardship of war when all you love seems to have gone life don't seem fair but in the midst of the darkness the stars still shine if you look beautiful story of true love that came of much pain
Great beginning, terrific story line and story teller. Fell I love with the sisters and the love line. Fascinating stuff set in WII and the French resistance. Then move on to 1950and another story line with Harriet
