Product Description

Emily McPhee is in the clutches of a monster…

Despite the protection of her boyfriend Seth Connors and his colleagues with the Orange Police Department, Emily is imprisoned in a basement by her psychopathic stalker Jimmy Lasko. His bizarre behavior adds to her terror, and a video link forces Seth to witness her captivity, leaving him feeling helpless as he, the OPD, and the FBI search for her.

Freedom isn’t free, and safety is just an illusion…

Though Emily escapes the basement, the threat is far from eliminated. In fact, things she learned while being held by Lasko lead her to believe he isn’t working alone. Lasko is still out there, determined to get her back, and crazier than ever. If he does have a partner, Emily has no idea where the threat might lie or who she can trust.

It’s impossible to live a normal life when family ties become tangled.

Emily is deeply hurt when Seth is reminded that their relationship might endanger her further and he pulls away again. She’s even more frustrated when her globe-trotting mother returns and is charming to everybody…except her own daughter.

When Emily meets Seth’s family, she loves his mom and little sister, isn’t sure what to make of his flirtatious brother—who is also a cop—and finds herself very uneasy around his father, who is a powerful attorney.

Sometimes things seem very clear…until you look more closely.

This is the second book of the darkness series and I was on the edge of my seat with my heart thumping all the way through the book. Darkness lurks ended with a cliffhanger and Darkness Follows picked up right where it left off. The story was driving me crazy with twists, tensions, anxiety, love, mystery, not knowing who to trust and it had my stomach in knots. I was full of emotions while reading including love, hate, anger, pain, sorrow, tears and happiness. I love Emily and Seth and you could feel the chemistry between them throughout the story.
Get to the end and it ends with a cliffhanger and I was like WTF, no way. I can't wait to get my hands on Darkness Falls and see how the story will unfold.

Another hit from Jodi Drake! This is the second book of the Darkness series and let me tell you, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The first book in this trilogy ended with a heck of a cliff hanger and this picked right up there. Great detail and I totally felt the emotions of all the characters. Love Emily and Seth!!! Can't wait for the third and final book. I'm sure it will be awesome! If you haven't read these books, you need to! And her other series as well, Broken Trilogy! The end of this book had a small cliffy but more of a WTH moment!!!! She gives you an answer to the mystery but I was like WHAT?????? Great continuation!

HASH(0xb14479a8) out of 5 stars I just couldn't stop reading! 14 September 2015

****I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you****

Darkness Lurks is a romance thriller. It is told from Emily, Seth, and Lasko’s POV. The story picks up right at the end of Darkness Lurks. Lasko has Emily and Seth is going nuts.

If I was irritated by Emily and Seth’s behavior in Darkness Lurks, I was just mad about it in Darkness Follows. After Emily was taken by Lasko and escapes, she continues to make reckless decisions about her safety. I understand that she wants to live her life but at what cost: her being abducted again? Seth’s life? Her life? Seth’s behavior toward her was appalling. I get that he feels responsible for her abduction, but his behavior just drove Emily to extremes. For someone who supposed to know her so well, he seems to be clueless. Her friends, while there are fewer around, are still an important part of the story. Pete adds a much needed lightheartedness to the story.

Emily’s mom, Jenny, is now part of the story. If I was Emily, I would have changed the locks and told her never to come back because of the way she treats her. Jenny adds some more insight into who Emily is. We also meet Seth’s family, who are not like I expected. It didn’t help me understand who he was. It confused me more than anything.

I read this basically in one sitting and was up way past my bedtime because I had to find out what would happen. There were several twists and turns I didn’t see coming that were oh so good. It ends on kind of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

HASH(0xb21a4198) out of 5 stars ***A MUST READ SERIES!*** 2 September 2015

WHOA! I am blown away by the depth and complexity of this series. Holy mother of...J.L Drake has clearly out done herself in this second addition to the Darkness Trilogy. I am in awe of her. Was it full of sexual angst, hot OPD men (I do love a man in a uniform), and feels? YES, yes it was!!! The character development, the emotional connection, and the interweaving story line has my mind reeling with questions! This story is riddled with hidden clues that I am dying to try to figure out. My mind can't stop screaming...WHAT IS THE CONNECTION?! Ahhh! This book is going to haunt me until I get my hands on the next one. I. NEED. IT. NOW! Gahhh!! The suspense is killing me!! This is J.L. Drake's best book/series yet. I LOVED Cole and Savannah (and of course ALL the men of Blackstone) from her Broken Trilogy, but this...this is sooo much more than just a love story. THIS is a BRILLIANT mystery! Counting down the days until the release of Darkness Falls J.L Drake!

I gave 3.5 stars

As much as I wanted to give it 4 stars I just could not. It felt too drawn out and the push and pull of Seth and Emily was a bit much.

The book started off good. It picks up after Lasko has Emily and I was excited to see how it would play out. I was disappointed because Lasko want who I thought he was.. The illusion that he's someone very dark and twisted yet he isn't doing much. Then you reading about someone that is on the other phone behind everything yet you have an idea of who they could be. After getting through the book you finally find out who the person is. I gave major points for that because I did not predict this person.

All in all, I would read this book again. I'm actually looking forward to the next book. I'm curious to see how this all ends.

HASH(0xb11d85c4) out of 5 stars Better than book#1 4 November 2015

4-4.4 stars
It's awesome when you get full body chills while reading the last sentence of a book! Yep, that's what you can expect from this one. I liked Darkness Lurks but book #2 was so much better! Darkness Follows is definitely suspenseful but the prolonged waiting and waiting and waiting that happened in book #1 is thankfully absent since this book picks up immediately where book#1 left off (Emily just having been captured by Jimmy). I can't say much more or I'll spoil the book. All I can say is that things get a lot more exciting and that not everything is what it appears to be. This was a sequel worth waiting for and I would have rated it 5 stars if there weren't any typos, if the rare sex scenes were a bit more detailed and if Jimmy acted just a bit more twisted. I hear the third book is really good too and they say third times the charm so hopefully that one will be the 5- star finisher!
