This is a story that really gets you wondering what is going on. The plot is thickening and I am keen to discover what comes next.

Takes awhile to get into the rhythm of the writing style, but you get there.

Worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Amazing, Fabulous Stars!!!! 22 June 2015

I don't give 5 stars easily. This story and the characters got under my skin and lived and breathed. It took me 4 days to read this book. 4 days to let it simmer. 4 days to savor every word. I have read nearly 50 books this year and only one other earned 5 stars from me. Thank you Tanya Holmes for your awesome words and sharing your amazing gift.

This is a tough book to review without giving away integral parts of the story so I am going to refrain from any sort of overview.

I do however have a few thoughts to note.

This is a paranormal but in a more unusual sense than I am used to reading. There are no vampires or werewolves, fairies or the like. It is unique and original!

The book ends in a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers! So reading The Darkest Frost, knowing it was a going to end with a cliffhanger, was a huge leap of faith and trust for me. I am so happy I took that leap. Yes, I still have a millions questions. Yes, I am impatient to continue the story but I am actually OK with letting this story simmer awhile longer. It ended just where it needed too. I had no late night urge to hunt down the author with my freshly sharpened pitchfork. ;)

There is definitely a steam factor to this read. It's not overloaded but it's there and it's hot! Ms. Holmes can definitely turn up the heat!

The Darkest Frost really resonated with me and I hope it does the same for the rest of you!!! There is something deeper going on within this book that is more than mere words on a page.

This book is still very much with me. I suspect it will be for a long while. I am in reader Heaven!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great paranormal story that's a bit different than the usual 18 October 2015

There are so many good things about this book, it's hard to know where to begin. I guess I'll start with the author's description--A Gothic paranormal romance with a twist. I couldn't agree more. Jane Eyre is my all time favorite classic, and when Danieve said this, my heart sang:
Okay, remember Jane Eyre? Remember how Mr. Rochester described their connection? He'd said it felt like a mystical string had been tied around his rib linking him to Jane's. Well, it seemed Braeden and I were joined together in similar fashion. Only ours was more like a trip wire with GPS.
Ms. Holmes somehow manages to create this modern-day story feel like it's set in the 1700's. I was only jarred into the present when things like cell phones are mentioned.

Another thing I loved was the way Danieve sensed auras. It was all about the smells.
Contrition-smells like chocolate
Lies-cow manure. (This is my favorite. Yes, Danieve can literally smell your BS.)

Ms. Holmes doesn't mind taking risks in her writing. (view spoiler) While Danieve's pov is written in first person, the other characters are all written in third person. It was different, but once I got used to it, I kind of liked it.

I was bummed when I finished and I realized that book two wasn't out yet. Then I realized it comes out tomorrow, pre-ordered it, and did the happy dance. Yay!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic! 23 June 2015
By Danielle A Cup and A Book - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
When I started this book I am going to admit, I thought it was a bit slow. But as I kept going I realized how important every detail was to the story. I always wonder (with any book) if the background or descriptions are beefed up to increase word count. Well, that is NOT the case here.

Nope, Tanya is very deliberate and thoughtful in her writing, and it shows with each chapter. The development of not only the characters, but also the entire scenario is amazing and truly pulls you in. I want to tell you all about this book, but that is hard to do without spoiling it for you, so this is all you get.

Braeden is quite the main character. He is difficult to read, yet you desperately want to know more. As we are allowed to learn about him, Braeden becomes the flame to this moth. I needed more, all the time. And Denvieve (also Danielle - love the name btw) is a heroine you can root for. Determined to uncover the truth, she puts herself in, um, interesting positions that really pay off for the reader. And let's not forget Xavier. Who is he you ask? Well, that's for you to find out ;)

Oh, by the way, if you are looking for some heat look no further. Also, you may want a pair of leather gloves to hold the kindle - you never know when it might get hard to hold ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars DO. NOT. MISS. THIS!!!!! 22 June 2015

I'll be honest, I usually stay away from books that are categorized as "paranormal", so when I was asked to read/review this book, I was hesitant, but boy am I beyond glad that I decided to journey out of my comfort zone and read this book! In the past, the paranormal books that I have read seemed to be way too overboard with the paranormal aspects, but with the Darkest Frost, it was like they were almost subliminal. From the second I opened this up on my Kindle, I was hooked and could not step away (sorry kids)!

Everytime I felt that I had a grasp on where the story was going, Tanya would go and flip the switch on me! I never knew what was going to happen from one page to the next! I think that is what drew me so deep into the book! I can't stand books that are so predictable they end up being DNF's and The Darkest Frost was definitely not one of those books! And can we talk about the steaminess factor?! WOW!!!!, the steamy chemistry between Denieve, Breaden and Xavier left me all sorts of worked up!

The only thing that annoyed me with this is that I have to wait until later this year until I can get my hands on Part 2!!! This book has caused me to have one of the worst book hangovers that I have ever had, it won't leave my head! DEFINITELY DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll be seeing Dr. Frost!! 5 Stars 24 June 2015

***ARC gifted to leave an honest review***

No, Tanya you can't leave us hanging like that. September seems so far.

This book definitely wasn't what I expected, I read it straight through. It's paranormal, and it becomes known its a paranormal book right off, but pretty soon it just blends in & you become so involved w/ the characters the paranormal factors blend in w/ the story.

We meet 'Danielle' who goes to work for Dr. Braeden Frost as a housekeeper. Seems normal, right? Wrong, you see 'Dr. Death' as he's known has a reputation, his patients keep dying!!
I'll leave you there, you need to read this book to grasp the history, clues, & become enthralled in Braeden's world.
We have all these characters. Danielle. Denieve. Braeden. Xavier. Caryn. Samuel. They're all connected, & we get little snippets & clues.
And I have to admit I kind of have a thing for Xavier, call mr crazy, but I do. What is his deal?!
I wasn't expecting to have such an emotional connection to the characters, but I did shed a few tears at two certain scenes.
Can't wait for the second book where we get our answers. I have my own speculations. & need to know.

Phenomenal book. Fantastic characters. Hurry up September!!!
5 Stars.
