The Dark Tower is a construct that sits at the centre of the universe and it holds the universe together. 'The Man In Black' is hell-bent on destroying the tower, which will unleash an apocalypse on the universe. But a lone gunslinger is determined to kill The Man In Black and restore balance in the universe.
Obviously made with a decent budget, the film has good production values and a great main cast to deliver the goods. Based on a Stephen King series of books, the production does feel rushed at times as it is cramming in a lot of background into a fairly short 95 minutes. But having said that, at the same time there seems to be a lot of information missing - it would have been nice to have more of the backstory of the worlds explained including the terminology that characters use, with the expectation that the viewing audience will understand what they mean.
The Blu-ray video is nicely detailed and generally clear, and the audio is a fairly typical dts-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack which is fine, although I found a lot of the surround effects sounded rather forced and not always natural.
A fun hour-and-a-half time waster but not something I would rush to watch again. 3.5 stars.
