Helen grew up in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. At 18 she went to Hull university and left three years later with a tattoo on her shoulder and a law degree. She became a lawyer in Peckham and soon had a loyal following of teenagers needing legal advice and bus fares. She ended up working in Luton, working predominantly for children going through the care system.

Helen is married to a long-suffering lawyer and is the mother of young twins which take up 90% of her waking hours.

This is the first Helen Black story that I have read and I find it quite a difficult one to call.

After a pretty slow start it then becomes quite a page-turner, tackling nasty subjects throughout. However, I thought the sub-stories that run concurrently with the main were an unwelcome distraction . As it turns out, they were rather superfluous, having no real impact on the outcome, but merely a way of filling pages!

The plot was heavily flawed and easily transparent to the reader. But I do like Lilly Valentine. She is feisty, very funny and a convincing heroine. So, because of her, I would probably try another in the series.

All in all I would say 'give it a go'

Not my usual type of book in fact I came across it whilst searching for something else. I decided to try the sample and by the end of it I was totally engrossed and had no hesitation in buying it.
Completely unputdownable I read it in two days and loved the authors style of writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a modern up to date storyline with some mystery thrown in.
Well done helen I am off to search for more of your books!

Following the adventure's of Lily on her 3rd sequel I enjoyed very much, I have been lucky that I have read them in order, normally you can get the books in order from the list on amazon but not for this series ! On my last one hope to enjoy, can't make my mind up who to read next.
