Dark Highway (Jessica Shaw Book 3) Kindle Edition
An isolated highway in the middle of the desert—the perfect place to hide a secret.
LA-based artist Laurie Simmonds disappeared two months ago, her campervan abandoned on the isolated Twentynine Palms Highway, miles from anything—or anyone. With the police investigation stalled, her parents put all their faith in private investigator Jessica Shaw to find out the truth of what happened.
Jessica and her partner Matt Connor discover that two other women are missing, their disappearances connected to the same highway. When a link emerges between these women and a group of former college friends, Jessica feels certain they’re closing in on their target.
But no sooner do they follow this up than Laurie’s parents get spooked and drop the case. Jessica is blindsided but determined not to give up: three women are missing, and many more may be at risk. She can’t turn her back on them. But the more she pulls at the threads of the truth, the closer she comes to danger. Can she find out who’s behind these crimes before they come for her?

Jessica Shaw is a PI with a flawed history trying to establish herself. Hired to find a missing woman, she finds three other women went missing in a similar place on a lonely desert road. There are flashback chapters setting the scene for each of these and Jessica must piece the evidence together to find out what happened. Needless to say, the pieces start to intertwine, but the story goes in a different direction to the way I expected.
Over the years I have read several Amazon First Read books by female authors and I found them less readable as a male. This series does not have that problem for me. I look forward to Jessica Shaw book 4.
Now linked up with fellow private detective Matt Connor. Who contributes a significant part to this story.
The pair are hired by the parents of a young woman to investigate the disappearance of their daughter. Whose last known location was on the Twentynine Palms Highway.
With the investigation underway. It comes to light, that two other women disappeared along the same stretch of road. Is there a connection? Then out of the blue their clients, want the investigation stopped. Why?
Jessica cannot leave this alone. She carries on digging. But by doing so, is she now the next target?
I would give it 10 out of 10 if I could.
