Product description

Product Description

Imagine the universe as a forest, patrolled by numberless and nameless predators. In this forest, stealth is survival – any civilisation that reveals its location is prey.

Earth has. Now the predators are coming.

Crossing light years, they will reach Earth in four centuries' time. But the sophons, their extra-dimensional agents and saboteurs, are already here. Only the individual human mind remains immune to their influence.

This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a last-ditch defence that grants four individuals almost absolute power to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from human and alien alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown.

Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.

I am deeply convinced by the author that the universe is a dark forest. The danger is not coming from the enemy we see, but from the unknown and uncertainty hidden in the darkness. I think this novel well explained why we have not found any alien yet - the more advanced an universal civilization is, the deeper it hides in the darkness. This might be the ONLY way to avoid the potential collision between civilizations.

So please stop SHOUTING to the universe about the existence of human beings, but searching other life forms by LISTENING to the cosmos.

It is an intriguing story in that a battle lasting hundreds of years without the combatants facing off seems almost impossible, yet it was absorbing. Perhaps not quite as good as the first.

Cixin Liu's writing is masterfully translated, and tells a compelling story that reveals as much about modern society as it does about its fantastic future vision.

More excellent sci-do from a quite exceptional story teller. It's a lot more than standard sci-fi told with a simplicity that slowly becomes elegance.
