Couldn't wait for book two... and it did not disappoint!! Intrigue, ghosts and sassy female leads with some fantastic sex scenes. Loved that Sam was not the typical sub. Didn't like this ending though my curious mind needs to know more!!!
Hopefully book three reveals my unanswered questions and is just as good as the first two!
Samantha was one devoted nurse, however she was harboring secrets and inner turmoil. She is unaware of the presence wanting to devour her... he has always gotten what he has wanted! And assuming another identity but is that how you should start a relationship, deceit..lies of omission and just half truths. He will have her insides burning with the anticipation but at what cost? Doug Morgan has a few secrets of his own and an insatiable appetite for the kinkier side of sex. So when reality and fantasy merge what the fudge happens when Samantha unearths the truth. Can she forgive and forget? While one door opens another closes.... and with the ghost that are surrounding them, one mystery is solved but the question on the table is what the fudge happened to Nathan Cole? What exactly is the Corde Noire Society? With each book Alexandea Weis writes she is seducing us with words and thoughts. The mystery that is Louisiana is at the forefront, the lore, the seductive words and the unbelievable characters. I am so invested in her books each is better then the last. Can it get any better? Would recommend this and all her books. The perfect balance of suspense, intrigue, romance and sex. Indulge in the delight that is Alexandea Weis. This is a 5 star read, expect to be dazzled!

This book is refreshingly different and completely captivating, I was hooked from the moment I started reading. This is the 2nd book in the Corde Noir Series and there are some familiar characters and surroundings. Once again this story takes place in The Shallows, an apartment building in New Orleans with lots of character, a troublesome history...and a pulse.
Sam Woods is an ICU nurse, she is strong, dedicated, funny and a complete klutz. But, there is so much more to Sam than anyone knows, she has a secret, one she doesn't like to share. She can talk to the dead, and the dead have a lot to say. When she meets the man who moves in next door, she is instantly intrigued by the tall, dark and sexy stranger. Something about him draws her in like a moth to a flame. But, getting involved with him might be the biggest mistake of her life.
I loved Sam from the word go, she is so innocent and vulnerable, yet strong and resilient. I loved getting to know her. Sebastian Dane is the epitome of an alpha dom, but he is having a hard time training Sam as a sub, she is so different from any sub he has had before. I have to admit there were a few times I wanted Sam to run far, far away from Sebastian. But, I changed my mind by the end of the book!
This book is an interesting mix of sex, sensuality, romance, humor, and the paranormal with a great cast of characters, some otherworldly, set in a great location. New Orleans is almost like another character in the book, the way the city is described I felt like I was there. I loved this book and I can't wait for the next in the series.

From the first book I read by Alexandrea Weis, I have been hooked. I love her writing style and her inherent wit and humor. I also love the fact that so many of her books are set in New Orleans, one of my very favorite cities to visit. Dark Attraction is the first book I've read by Ms. Weis that adds a paranormal twist. At first I thought this element might impact my enjoyment of the book, but I found that Sam's "gift" of communicating with the dead added quite a lot to the story. Ghosts pop in and out of Sam's life, sometimes in an innocent way, but often creating havoc in her life. I found the flow of the story pulled me into the book, making it one of those books it is hard to put down and pick up later. In Dark Attraction, Ms. Weis weaves a multi-level story of friendship, obsession, intrigue, submission, and passion. Sebastian is a man on a mission and his goal is Samantha (Sam.) While he is a strong and dominant character, Sam is a more passive conservative woman. Growing up the daughter of a preacher tends to do that to a woman. The couple connects in an unusual circumstance and their journey is filled with many obstacles. Sebastian seeks to possess Sam, but she seeks to possess his heart. The chemistry between the couple is hot and the sex scenes are sizzling. Once again Ms. Weis has created a story that will be one of my favorites for a long time to come.
Samantha, better know as Sam, sees and communicates with ghosts.. Living in the Shallows Apartment complex in New Orleans pretty much ensures that she will have some to communicate with, as it sits above the site of a pre civil war slavery auction warehouse. She does not want anyone to know of her ability since she is convinced that they would think she is nuts. When she gets a new hunk of a neighbor, one who is very interested in her, she resists telling him her secrets, even though he had ways of being very persuasive. Doug turns out not to be what he first appears, in fact, not even who he says he is. Much of the second half of the book he is conflicted between his growing love for Sam and his belief that there is no room for love in a dom/sub relationship. This mental conflict just did not ring true for me. Story 3.9 Editing 5 Characters 3.5 Heat index 4.5
