Brought together by a crime committed on a cold dark night.
From the moment they meet, their lives can never be the same again...
Wild and rugged Dave Pearce is haunted by the demons of his past. He’s done his best to make a life for himself after the devastation of his lover’s suicide years earlier, but the trauma has left its mark on his soul.
Danny Wong is what Dave considers a “nerdy Bruce Lee.” Handsome, refined, out of his league.
But that doesn’t matter.
Dave believes himself to be dangerous for any man who would love him. So he stays back in the shadows, letting the desire he harbors for the hot grad student remain unrequited.
Danny has demons of his own. Duty-bound to his family’s goals for him, he remains shy and closeted, contenting himself with his secret fantasies about the sexy Irish cop who patrols the campus building where Danny does his graduate work.
Until one freezing winter night…
Leaving the building, fate steps in and their paths cross in a new...deeper way. Neither man can turn back. Danny and Dave must face the demons rearing their heads with full force, or lose their chance at an epic love...

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet romance (laced with some bit of philosophy) 26 August 2015
By johanna - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Danny's Dragon is not a paranormal or shape-shifter story. It is actually a story about two regular men who eyed each other from a distance not wanting to make the first move for fear of rejection. One was born in the year of the Dragon, Dave, and the other was born in the year of the rabbit, Danny. Hence the title. The way I understand it, the rabbit and the dragon are a compatible yinyang.

Both Danny and Dave are not out to their families and that is what drives this story. Danny is of Chinese heritage and culture so is fearful of how his parents, especially his mother, would react when she finds out. Dave comes from an abusive family and has the same fears. However, Dave comes from a more battered life because of the ghost of his lover and best friend. When the past comes to haunt both men, it tests their resolve to remain true to themselves and eventually the world. Dave does not handle it well and it is Danny who becomes the firm staff he could rely on.

This is a really sweet romance (laced with some bit of philosophy) between two imperfect men whose inner strengths only come out when the pressure is on. Surprisingly, Dave who is the bigger of the two, comes out the one who needs Danny's support and love more. He is full of doubts while Danny's quick and analytical mind is more decisive.

Each chapter is introduced with a character from the poems of Lao Tzu and it prepares the readers of what is to come. I found it quite interesting the author chose to use the poem as the anchor to the whole story for if one were to focus on these intros alone, one could already get where the story is headed. As I love philosophy, I quite enjoyed trying to guess where the author would lead it to end.
4.0 out of 5 stars A contemporary romance written in the classic style of days gone by. 31 August 2015

A mixture of happy and sad, innocence and evil, tradition and contemporary, Danny's Dragon has it all. A well rounded drama about life, love and second chances. Danny and Dave have been dancing around their mutual attraction for a while now, each afraid to make the first move, but when Danny's life is threatened, Dave comes to his rescue and seizes the opportunity to learn more about the quiet man who makes him feel alive for the first time in a very long time.

The cultural contrasts between Danny's traditional upbringing and Dave's rough and tumble past make them an unlikely couple, but each seems to bring out the best in the other. I loved the way their romance developed over time and how they slowly opened up to each other. When secrets from Dave's past catch up to him, bringing hurt and drama that threatens Danny's quiet life, their commitment is tested as each man re-evaluates where their lives are heading and what truly matters.

Captivating and multidimensional, Danny's Dragon is a contemporary romance written in the classic style of days gone by, when a man's word was his bond, and honesty and honor prevailed.

My OFFICIAL REVIEW written for Carly's Book Reviews.
3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet but sometimes overly sweet 29 August 2015
By Lisa - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
An incredibly sweet read.

Danny and Dave have been attracted to each other but neither acted on it until events throw them together. Danny's inexperience and Dave's past kept them from pursuing the other.

Together they complement each other perfectly but family and the past have the potential to drive them apart.

Whilst this was a sweet, romantic read, it was, at times, overly sweet and incredibly corny. There were some moments when the writing felt awkward but these passed quickly. Just as the story was getting really interesting, it was over with situations being wrapped up really quickly, which left me feeling frustrated.

As a story about two insecure individuals exploring a beautiful relationship, it worked and was enjoyable for the most part.
