Product Description

If women were as easily managed as the affairs of state—or the recalcitrant Ottoman Empire—Richard Hayden, Marquess of Glenaire, would be a happier man. As it was, the creatures—one woman in particular—made hash of his well-laid plans and bedeviled him on all sides.

Lily Thornton came home from Saint Petersburg in pursuit of marriage. She wants a husband and a partner, not an overbearing, managing man. She may be “the least likely candidate to be Marchioness of Glenaire,” but her problems are her own to fix, even if those problems include both a Russian villain and an interfering Ottoman official.

Given enough facts, Richard can fix anything. But protecting that impossible woman is proving almost as hard as protecting his heart, especially when Lily’s problems bring her dangerously close to an Ottoman revolution. As Lily’s personal problems entangle with Richard’s professional ones, and she pits her will against his, he chases her across the pirate-infested Mediterranean. Will she discover surrender isn’t defeat? That it might even have its own sweet reward.

3.0 out of 5 stars The most irritating heroine ever 12 May 2016
By Katie - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I wanted to like this book, I tried really hard, but in the end I justed wanted to shake the pair of them, Lilly in particular. Lilly had to be the most pig headed irritating, foolish idiot heroine I have ever read a romance about. I couldn't warm to her at all. Richard wasn't so bad but I couldn't understand what he saw in Lilly at all, she was horrible to him the whole book, even when he came to her rescue. I gave 3 stars instead of 2 as I did manage to get to the end of the book as l was ever hopeful things might improve as I did enjoy the previous 2 books. Hopefully the next one will be better.

4.0 out of 5 stars I truly enjoyed the first two books in Warfield's "Dangerous" series 26 March 2016

This was more of a 3.5 stars for me. I truly enjoyed the first two books in Warfield's "Dangerous" series, but this one left me wanting a bit more. The first fifth or so of the book felt rushed, events happening and characters introduced without feeling as if I was being given a chance to get to know them and/or why they would make certain choices before those choices had already been made. I also had some difficulty not becoming exasperated with the heroine, who consistently made decisions that only placed her in greater trouble, and all because she the was the stubborn, independent heroine who didn't need a man... and yet lived in a time when the choices she insisted on trying to make had me shaking my head at her.

But the writing was good. The attention to the detail of the time period and the political unrest that existed then was superb. And I love the author's ability to weave together all the characters from previous stories (and stories to come, I hope)! So while this is the weakest in the series (to me) I do look forward to the next book by Caroline Warfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love! Love! Love This Story! 27 January 2016

Richard Hayden, Marquess of Glenaire, wants, no he demands, his life to be orderly. He must remain in control of everything around him. His wife, when HE decides to take one, will be an asset to his job handling affairs of state. A wife who will not cause him any problems. Well laid plains often go awry and they do in the form of a strong willed, stubborn woman.
Lily Thornton has spent her life helping her father in diplomatic affairs. Moving from one country to another learning the different customs and quickly picking up the language. Now she has come home to London to find a husband. A husband who will care for her and not treat her as another piece of property. Again, well laid plans can often go astray and do they ever – in the form of an overbearing, controlling man.
A villain, evil beyond all imagining, threatens Lily’s very existence. An interfering foreign diplomat meddling where he shouldn’t causes more problems than Lily can deal with. All topped with a demanding, overbearing gentleman. When circumstances become too much she escapes England to live among her interfering diplomat’s family.
A villain that Richard wants for unspeakable crimes but mostly for the harm he presents to Lily. A lapse in judgement (aided by an interfering foreign diplomat) and a stubborn, exasperating woman has turned Richard’s well-ordered life upside down. He has his life all laid out, complete with planning to propose to another Lady (one approved of by his uptight, snob mother). Then why does he cry off and head off to find the one lady who is completely wrong but so right for him.
Finding Lily tends to be the easy part. Convincing her to marry him is quite another. When a kidnapping threatens to turn tragic can Richard save Lily? Can Lily save Richard?
I absolutely loved the ever organized Richard being thrown for a loop. As his life became less structured I could feel his tension ease. Lily not making things easy for him was well worth lack of sleep to read late into the night. Although I adored Lily’s strength and determination to live her life on her terms there were times I was ready to smack her.
The story started off with plenty of action within the first chapter and never stopped. This is definitely a must read story by Caroline Warfield. I can’t imagine where Ms. Warfield takes us in her next Dangerous story.
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Glenaire's story and it was worth the wait! 20 October 2016

Of course, Glenaire could not have an easy go of it in the love and marriage department. As controlled as he is, he had to be shaken up. And so dear fellow readers, he was shaken to his core by the most unlikely future duchess we have ever met. I loved Glenaire's adventure with Lily.

I enjoyed everything about this book. It took me places that I typically do not go in Regency era historicals and I found myself enjoying the ride. I want more!!!!

Thank you Caroline Warfield for sharing this remarkable world with us. Please write more and write as fast as you can!

5.0 out of 5 stars a Lord who demands perfect order and a Lady who turns his world upside ... 14 March 2016

a Lord who demands perfect order and a Lady who turns his world upside down. She is used to managing things but so is he. Throw in some Russian spies and her life being in danger. And what is a gentleman to do but recue her if she wants him to or not. This is a well written and researched story that grabs you in the first chapter and never lets you go till the end. I love it and really recommend it to you.
