Book two in the series of fantasy novels entitled 'Shadowdance.' Book one was 'A Dance of Cloaks.' This volume isn't really a good jumping on point, so new readers start with that.

Regular ones, read on.

This volume once again has a map of the land of the story at the front, then runs for three hundred and eighty seven pages. There are thirty two chapters and an epilogue.

As with book one, there is some strong language and quite a bit of violence.

Five years after the end of book one, the war between the guilds and the Trifect is winding down. But Haern is fighting them all by himself. People have come to know him as the Watcher.

Alyssa is still in charge of her family. Her son is being brought up out of the city.

But when he reportedly killed, his mother vows revenge. And sets out to bring down the guilds and the Watcher once and for all...

This follows the format as with book of multiple viewpoint characters. But it's a very easy book to get back into, and you're into it in no time. Some of the viewpoint characters are new characters in this story. All are compelling creations.

It does more of the same, and does it very well. It juggles multiple plotlines along with very belieable world building, and keeps you turning the pages nicely as the storylines build and build, and action comes along just at the right points. It's not quite five star material as book one was, because it doesn't have shock of the new that that did. But it manages to feel like more than just a mid series book, because by the end it has moved things along very well indeed. And will leave looking forward to finding what happens next.
