Product Description

Lady Daisy should be ecstatic when her brother, the earl, allows Mr. John Brent to propose. She’s been plotting their marriage for two years. However, she is surprised to find herself underwhelmed and blames their distant cousin, Reuben, for unsettling her.
Reuben Longreach wonders whether the earl understands the first thing about Daisy’s nature and her need for a life with more drama than the Season allows. It’s abundantly clear to him that Daisy and John are not suited, but the minx accepts his proposal nonetheless.
Meanwhile, Daisy hatches a plan to attach Reuben to her beautiful, beleaguered Scots cousin, Elspeth. Little does she know that Elspeth is the focus of a more sinister plot that threatens Daisy too.
Will Reuben be able to thwart the forces surrounding Daisy before she is irretrievably tied to John? Will Daisy find the maturity to recognise her dilemma may be of her own making before it’s too late?

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightul Regency Romance 16 June 2015
By Tina Williams - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is another charming Regency Romance by Anne Stenhouse and a must read for fans of the genre. It contains a young heroine in turmoil about what she needs in a suitor and a hero who is not only intent on protecting her from her own folly but also from a nefarious scheme against her. It has a diverting plot, with many twists and turns, with intrigue, deception and danger and much personal drama. Although it can be read as a standalone, I feel that readers would enjoy it more fully if they had first read Mariah’s Marriage, as Daisy’s Dilemma refers to events that occurred in it and also includes a number of the same characters.

The heroine Daisy, whose head is often turned by romantic notions, is in a quandary about her intended as her interfering, enigmatic and disarmingly attractive cousin Reuben, is constantly making her question her choice. Indeed, he will seemingly stop at nothing to thwart her marriage plans, inflaming both her passions and her temper….. Daisy discovers that Reuben has a number of secrets and she begins to question his real motives when it comes to his actions concerning her suitors. Something is afoot and Daisy is determined to get to the bottom of it, with unexpected consequences.

At the start of the tale Daisy is a young lady of nineteen, trying to secure her place in the adult world and doing her best to meet society’s expectations that she marry. The book spans several years and I liked how Daisy grew in poise and confidence, especially towards Reuben and how she deals with a number of rather difficult relatives.

Reuben, a distant cousin of Daisy, is a fascinating and cultured character, but more than a trifle outspoken and unconventional and I could well understand Daisy’s attraction, however much she fights it! Reuben plays his cards very close to his chest and is not above using his charms to manipulate Daisy to influence her choice of suitor and conceal from her the rather sinister plot that threatens her. At the same time Daisy attempts to match Reuben with her cousin Elspeth, believing that they are a perfect match. Elspeth too is in danger and Reuben and Daisy’s brother Tobias have their work cut out to protect both women and thwart their enemies.

The read is full of wit and drama and is delightfully written. I especially loved how the romance between Daisy and Reuben unfolds. The sexual tension between the couple is ever present in their body language and their verbal sparring, and the scenes between them are superb.

The novel is very well researched and the plot beautifully orchestrated in terms of dialogue, the social mores of the day and the author’s clever plotting. It will appeal to readers of traditional Regency Romance. An copy of this book was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Traditional Regency ! 12 September 2015

Lady Daisy has finally received the proposal she was wishing for, however her distant cousin Reuben is stirring up doubts. Does Daisy's wish come true or will she dream for something more?

I do believe I read this book out of order but I think that help me connect to Daisy and her confusion about what all the men in her life were up to. Because of the confusion it took me a little bit to warm up to Reuben , I'm pretty sure I just wanted to shake him, her brother Toby, and John through half of the book for keeping Daisy in the dark about everything. Then my dilemma was that I wanted to shake Daisy for the most of the second half of the book lol. This was a enjoyable read with some intrigue and smooth dialogue to keep the story at a great pace.

This is a Clean Traditional Regency Romance with very little steam - I will be grabbing the books I missed and will grab more of the author's books
3.0 out of 5 stars Romance novel mixed with intrigue 17 June 2015

London 1822

Miss Daisy Longreach has just accepted Mr. John Brent’s request for her hand in marriage. She and her widowed mother are living with her brother, Tobias, who is soon to be married himself. John Brent does not have a fortune but feels he can care for and support Daisy and his three sisters as well. Having just been in a fight where another man was killed he is recovering from his injuries. It appears that this man had planned to abduct Daisy to steal and sell the family tiara.

Daisy’s cousin, Reuben, is a wealthy young man who has grown up with Daisy and knows her quite well. He is convinced that John Brent is not the man for her. Daisy feels as though she has made the right decision, however, she enjoys being with Reuben. Both of them are just realizing that they have an attraction to each other.

Daisy’s aunt, Beatrice, has come to visit with her daughter, Elspeth. Beatrice is an opinionated woman who irritates everyone. She is always eavesdropping on conversations and being just a royal pain. She treats poor Elspeth very badly by putting her down and not allowing her to dress nicely. Daisy decides to take matters in her own hands and convinces her brother, Tobias, to supply the funds to get some new dresses for Elspeth.

But behind the scenes, danger lurks and it appears that Aunt Beatrice is right in the middle of it. What could be going on, who could be hurt and why?

I admit that this was a very difficult book for me to read. I felt as though I had walked into the middle of a movie and even reread most of the book to try and piece all of the characters together. I have enjoyed this author in the past but, I just cannot say that I enjoyed this novel.
