The lead is too hard in my opinion, so the colours are not blendable as advertised, most of the colours do not transfer easily to the paper (and I have experimented on various grades) and so produce a "washed out" effect - and not in a good way.
For a box of 36, the colour choice is poor, 6 variants of yellow, 2 oranges, 3 reds, 2 pinks (neither of which is vibrant), 2 purples, 6 blue, 6 greens, 5 browns, 2 greys a black & white. I think it would have been more beneficial to have more reds/ pinks/ purples than yellows and browns.
These pencils would be ok for kids mucking about, but are not the artist quality they are marketed to be. They are only slightly better quality than the pencils I bought from Hobbycraft for £2.
I also bought some staedtler coloured pencils for half the price and they are doing a much better job. I think Derwent have missed their usually quality goal this time.
On the negative side - Some colours are rather hard and it is difficult to get the colour evenly onto the page. However, I have found that sharpening all the pencils did improve the colour transfer, so perhaps they are a little too waxy?
Don't think I would buy them again - probably would invest in some more expensive artists crayons next time.
Given as a gift. Sturdy tin.
The only good thing about this product is the tin. Although, mine came slightly dented and does not close properly.
All of the pigment in the pencils is of a strong standard, and the variety is also perfect. Definitely going to focus on buying products from Derwent to improve my artwork!
Thank you guys! c:
