Product Description

Former Cyborg Corps soldier Jasim Antar was relieved to come out of the war alive and looked forward to switching to a less violent line of work. But nobody wants to hire a brawny cyborg to do anything that doesn’t involve brutalizing people on a daily basis. Stuck working as a debt collector alongside an eccentric pilot who enjoys knitting gifts for her grandkids when she isn’t blowing people up, Jasim longs to find a more peaceful existence.

But peace is elusive when you have a violent past. While on a routine mission, Jasim comes across the body of a soldier he served with during the war. He soon learns that someone is murdering former members of the Cyborg Corps, men who should be extremely difficult to kill. And he’s next on the list.

Jasim steels himself to reach out to the one person he’s certain can help, his old commander: Colonel Leonidas Adler. Adler is strong, smart, and deadly, good traits to have in an ally. Unfortunately, he remembers Jasim as a misfit rather than a model soldier, and convincing him to join forces may be even tougher than finding and facing the killer.

Like the others in the series the story kept me entertained right until the very end.
A good read and can be read as a stand alone book.

Hello Readers, I have no hesitation in puting in a good word for this book. I enjoyed reading this story,
mostly at night in bed, and no I don't wait until mother has gone to bed. I am 85 year old and a
widower. Enjoy.

If you read and enjoyed the eight books in the fallen empire series then you should read this book as you will enjoy it. If you have not already done that then you should pickup the fallen empire series first. Although this short novel is a stand alone book, you are expected already to know about the characters and the settings in this book.
Having got that out of the way, what about this book? It is set a little after the events in the fallen empire series. Alisa Marchenko and her cyborg partner have settled down and are raising twins as they ply their trade moving freight between planets, moons and space stations. Their now peaceful routine is broken when they are contacted by a cyborg who has discovered a plot to kill off all cyborgs who survived the war in which the empire was defeated.
The pair of cyborgs decide that they must set out to try to find and defeat those responsible for the deaths of the first four cyborgs in time to prevent further killings.
So off they go and that is it. As a story, it is OK and it also serves to wrap up the Fallen Empire series and show us what subsequently happens to some of the characters in that series.

This was another fast paced action set in the Fallen Empire series. We get to see things from Leonidas's point of view. Just because the war has ended doesn't mean that the killing has. We also get a look at what has happened on the Nomad. The struggle of cyborg soldiers to be seen as anything other than killers is also highlighted. Good quick read.

As usual, I really enjoyed this latest novel in the Fallen Empire series. The new addition to the "family" looks like becoming a fixture and will probably end up with Alisa's daughter. I really like the interaction between the crew and find the lack of pages of technical details a bonus. The meat of the story is always important to me, not the author showing us how much he knows about a particular subject.
Cant wait for the next episode, Lindsay.
Cheers Anne

Finally we have Leonidas' point of view.. :) what happened to Leonidas and Alissa? Did they manage to have children? Who still around in the ship?
And oh, a cool adventure filled with wit and humour and excitement and a knitting granny pilot.
This is a stand alone novel, which you can read on your own but it will make more sense and you can appreciate it more after reading the other FE books!
Enjoy!
