5.0 out of 5 stars What a journey 10 June 2014

It's been more than a week since I finished this book by KJ Bell, and I needed that time to let the story sink in so that my brain and heart could process it.

This is a unique, well-written story about courage and strength in the face of evil and the many forms that evil comes in. I've been told countless times throughout my life, "That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."

However, the injustices that Hadley has suffered through in her life are things that don't make you stronger-instead they question your faith in humanity, wreck you with self-doubt and rip away the last shreds of dignity you are trying to hold on to with dear life. The fact that Hadley is by all accounts living on her own successfully as an adult is astounding ... heck the fact that she's even functioning is astounding. Human nature is a powerful thing and so is motivation. Hadley is motivated to be better-she wants to stop living in fear and make a life for herself-one that she deserves, but unfortunately along the way she's also sacrificed her dreams.

She meets Miller and is instantly attracted to him, and while their relationship blossoms, what I love most about this story is that Hadley doesn't rely on Miller to save her. She continues her therapy-she continues to grow. Love infiltrates her heart and through trial and error-and a lot of self-doubt about leaving her old self in the past-she becomes stronger. She learns to trust herself ... and to believe in herself.

This book is not for the faint of heart. Human trafficking and abuse are very real issues that can't be solved overnight, but with this book KJ Bell is doing her part by raising awareness, which is a huge step in the right direction. I loved this book. The story was done tastefully and realistically. The character development was slow and steady with realistic set backs and perspectives. I became invested in Hadley's well-being and still am. Every once in a while, I'll catch myself wondering, "How is Hadley doing? Is she still pursuing her dreams? Does she have a family of her own? Does she feel whole?"

Thank you KJ for this beautiful story!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story line, great characters, but writing style could be better. 10 July 2014

3.5 stars. This was a great story. The characters were awesome, the plot was really intriguing, the setting was great, but the execution failed. I know that this is just my opinion, and it kills me to write something negative about a story that could have been 5 plus stars. I love books with different POV. But this book was really hard to follow. It went from one POV to another POV without any warning or notation. Then it would go from a POV to a narrative style. I had to go back several times and reread something just to make sure I knew who was saying it. If this author would have stuck to only a couple POV or flawlessly went into one, this would have been a contender for one of my favorite books, but I just could not get past the writing style. Now the positives. The characters worked very well with each other. This is definitely a story about overcoming, forgiveness, love, acceptance. Hadley had a horrible life growing up. She never knew what love was until Miller showed her what it was unconditionally. His love, patience, and understanding helped her heal and forgive her demons from the past. The little twists and turns in this book were great and at times completely unexpected. Mac helped with a lot of Hadley's healing also. I hope that my review is taken as my opinion, and does not stop you from giving this book or this author a chance.
5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story about survival and love 29 May 2014

5++++ INCREDIBLE Stars! And yes, I'm using shouty capitals!!! I promise this is one read you won't want to miss out on!

I was lucky enough to read this book in its early stages and instantly fell in love with its original storyline and brilliant characters. KJ Bell's writing has amazing flow and I was sucked in from the get go, I needed to know where the story was going. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that Ms. Bell surprised me at every single turn, I had no idea what she was going to hit me with next.

I adore the characters KJ Bell creates and the characters in Cut Too Deep is no exception. So many incredible characters, I felt like I knew them all. Hadley is beautifully written, so damaged yet so full of inner strength. I loved watching her grow. Miller Genetti *swoon* is the perfect amount of sexy strong alpha male mixed with loving tenderness. Gavin Blake and Ethan Blackstone make way for the new man in town because you gents have some competition! Mac, every girl needs a best friend like Mac, someone to take you dancing ;-) I want a Mac! Then there's La Familgia, FABULOUS! I want more of this family. The way they care for their own, the hilarious banter... Again I say, FABULOUS!

Cut Too Deep took me on a crazy emotional journey that, at times, had my heart tearing in two. Learning Hadley's story and all she endured was positively heartbreaking. Watching her try to move forward from her past had me cheering for her. Miller is dealing with his own battle, one of the many reasons I love this honourable man. There were so many twists and turns that I did not see coming. Ms. Bell kept me on the edge of my seat, alway engaged with the story and it's characters.

Packed full of heartache, mystery and suspense. Cut Too Deep has a healthy dose of angst and lots of HOT sexual tension! It's a beautiful story about survival and love. If you are looking for a story that will take you on a fabulous emotional ride without leaving you emotionally wrecked, a story that will grab hold of your heart and won't let go. Cut Too Deep is just what you are looking for in your next read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Was Okay 28 May 2014

While I liked the story, I didn't love it. Same can be said about the characters. There wasn't anything about them that excited me. There was chemistry between Hadley and Miller, but not enough that would have firecrackers going off. There are a couple of scenes where the couple have sex, but if you're looking for anything descriptive you won't find it here. I did think the story dragged on a bit as it felt longer 417 pages. I love reading novels with several POV's. The issue here is that the POV would change from one paragraph to the next. There was no symbol, extra spaces, names, or even a new chapter to show that the POV changed. I find this to be quite irritating.

I wish the novel was proofread as it seems only Spell-Check was utilized as there were a few homophones used incorrectly. Instead of "your," "you're" would be used, and so-forth. Not a deal breaker, but still, is it too much for novels to be proofread?
5.0 out of 5 stars Lost sleep! 30 May 2014

This story was amazing! As a graveyard worker my sleep is VERY important. Since buying this book (3 days ago) I have given up sleep to follow the story of Hadley & Miller. I've cried, cheered and laughed! What a wonderful story. I hoped the book would end the way it does, I was not let down. Everyone in a while a good Cinderella story hits the spot! Thank you KJ for sharing this story in your mind and writing it in such an amazing manor. I'm not sure how you keep track of all of this in your head, but thank you for sharing it with us, YOUR readers! Waiting for the next book.......(no pressure)
