Mika was trying to save a gargoyle, not doom the world...

"If you enjoyed Magic of the Gargoyles then Curse of the Gargoyles will blow you away!" (Feeling Fictional ★★★★★)

Mika Stillwater isn’t known for her skills with combat magic. As a gargoyle healer, she spends her days mending broken appendages and curing illnesses in the living-quartz bodies of Terra Haven’s gargoyles. But when a squad of the city’s elite Federal Pentagon Defense warriors requests her assistance in freeing a gargoyle ensnared in a vicious invention, Mika jumps into the fray.

No one could have predicted that her involvement would ignite a chain reaction set to destroy the city, the world, and magic itself.

Brimming with epic magic and loveable gargoyles, Curse of the Gargoyles is the second story in Rebecca Chastain's mesmerizing Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles trilogy. Fantasy fans young and old will delight in this highly original world and exciting, action-packed adventure.

I really enjoyed these first two novels. Engaging characters, clean storylines, interesting visualisations and geologically realised gargoyles. I look forward to the next book in this series

Mika is Back! In a second installment.
Mika is a mid-level earth elemental, who specializes in quartz. Mika will tell you she's nothing special, except her skill with quartz is just as good or maybe better that of the esteemed and powerful full-spectrum elementals. Mika would tell you she's not brave, she's not a hero. It's not false modesty, it's what she has always been told. It's what she believes - her truth.
But Mika wrong. Mika is very special. She has a rare and powerful ability to heal gargoyles. She doesn't let her terror prevent her from rushing into to defend sick or injured gargoyles from greedy element magic users. She detest people would regard gargoyles as a tool for their convenience: like they are a piece of unfeeling rock. Gargoyles are as smart as any human, they are loyal, they feel pain, they love - just like use.
Mika is terrified, but if the Federal Pentagon Defense squad believes she is the best hope of a gargoyle trapped into providing the magical fuel for a magical "bomb' then she'll just have to find her courage. The problem is if she not on her 'A' game the bomb will link to every gargoyle in the city and destroy everything. The slight hitch being Mika's the first gargoyle healer in 'human' history! She has to figure out her 'A' game by the seat of her pants.

I meant to read only 3 chapters of this awesome book and continue the following day but I should have known better. Once I started I had to finish
I hoped and prayed that the would figure out how to save the day. Now I am eagerly awaiting the next book. Thank heaven I don't have to wait too long.

The best way to describe this author's writing is- effortless. You will start and realize it is rather charming, even though this book (the second one) is pretty much one long 'edge of your seat' battle, yet there is an almost gentleness provided by the inner dialog of the main character and a personal morality which fits in this setting and is proper. Just enough humor to lighten it. And the reading is as I said effortless. You are simply carried along and before you know it you have arrived at the big finale. The plot, the world and the characters are also 'effortless' -fitting together so naturally there are no rough edges to take you out of the flow.
Though I am much older I would say this tale is most likely to appeal to YA audience as well as any who love fantastical creatures and adventure with a hint of romance that is wholesome, but not too sweet.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it 5 June 2016

I ordered this novella as soon as I finished the first one, and it did not disappoint. In fact, I have pre-ordered #3 and can't wait. My only complain is that I want more and this is apparently a three book series since it is described as a trilogy. I really like the heroine, and in this book there appears to be a couple of budding romances which I am hoping evolve further in part 3. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.

I picked up the first one as a free read, and decided I needed to read the next, Curse of the Gargoyles. It's well written, we see characters in play that we met in the last book, and the complexities behind the various magic draws you in.
I do wish there was a bit more background about Mika. There's no telling whether she's alone or has any family, but otherwise, an enjoyable read.
