Product Description

An utterly addictive short story that charts the early days of an intense and passionate love affair, from the author of CLIPPED WINGS.

When a tragic accident devastates Tenley Page's life, she flees her hometown in search of somewhere she can start afresh. In Chicago she finds work, college, friends, and she tentatively begins to piece her life back together.

Then Hayden Stryker crosses her path. He's devilishly handsome tattoo artist with a dark past of his own.

From their fleeting interactions, Hayden's intrigue with Tenley grows into fascination. But as they get closer, Tenley must balance her feelings from him with the guilt she carries from the life she left behind.

Tenley and Hayden's story continues in the hugely popular CLIPPED WINGS.

I’ll be honest, I have no idea what attracted me to this series but I’m so glad I am. This is the prequel novella that introduces Tenley and Hayden. Think of this novella as a mini cupcake. Just enough to whet your appetite but make sure you have a napkin, you are going to need it!
Tenley is fleeing something from her past. She’s a student and like most students, she has meagre possessions. The way her character is written, I really want to know more about her and why she is the way she is. Hayden is a tattoo artist at the shop across the road from Tenley’s shoebox apartment. He’s noticed her but seems to be stuck in the same hesitancy she has for him. He too has a very dark past and I’m keen to find out what.
The chemistry between these two is real. Ms Hunting has created interesting characters, both main and supporting. The story if unique, the romance is heartfelt and the conflict is aching. This novella had be snickering and laughing out loud at the witty writing.
I was kindly provided with a free copy of this book from Net Galley to provide an honest review. Receiving this book for free did not influence my opinion nor review.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 chapters? 4 February 2014

I really loved this story as a fanfic and excited to read the published version. I was so excited to read the prequel but was disappointed it was only 2 chapters which the first chapter of clipped wings (it is a sneak peak at end of this) briefly goes over. I understand this is a novella but I wanted more, hence only a 3 star rating.
I liked the differences, so far, from the fanfic version, it makes it seem like I'm reading new material of one of my favorite stories and characters but with the same substance. I cannot wait to read clipped wings and hate that I have wait till March after this teaser.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic glimpse at what's to come in the series 9 March 2014

Hiding from the past, Tenley is new to Chicago and completely alone. She spends her days working at the little antique store downstairs and her free time watching the comings and goings at the tattoo shop across the street. One particular tattoo artist has caught her attention, though she can’t bring herself to speak to him and hides whenever he comes into the store. But even with no interaction, he’s made his way into her most erotic dreams.

Hayden owns Inked Armor, the tattoo studio across the street from his aunt’s antique store. Between clients, he drops in to see his aunt, and that’s when he catches his first glimpse of the timid but gorgeous girl now working there. His curiosity piqued, he wants to talk to her, but it seems that every time he drops in, she’s hiding from him.

I suppose it’s supposed to be a tease, a quick little novella before the big story comes out, and in that sense, Cupcakes and Ink does exactly what it’s supposed to do. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it. It’s been ages since CW&IA was pulled from fanfiction sites, and I’m dying to see what happens now that it’s been reworked for publishing. So I’m not all kinds of happy that I only got a teensy little peek.

The Verdict...
For what it is, a brief glimpse of what’s to come, it’s fantastic. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get into the story after so long, but already I want more — all of it, to be specific. In transitioning to published fiction, the story hasn’t lost its appeal. The sexual tension is building already, in just a couple of short chapters, and the mood has definitely been set. The writing so far is superb, and it’s clear that at least this part of the story has been freshly redone, still loyal to the characters and the story, but with something different, something more, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
4.0 out of 5 stars I want more........ 7 January 2015

A great beginning to Hayden and Tenley's love story. This novella is short but it gives you the story behind Hayden and Tenley's lives.

Both have been through tragic, unexpected loss that has them both yearning, unknowingly for love and peace in their lives.

They quietly watch each other, fantasize about each other.

I love the author's writing style purchased Clipped Wings and Inked Armor when I got this novella.

This story is unlike any other I have read and I am excited find out where the story goes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet 28 April 2014

It is short. Very short. It includes a peek of Clipped Wings, and I definitely want to check it out. This prequel introduces us to Hayden and Tenley. We get a sneak peek at their first encounter, and see that there was definitely interest on both sides from the get go.

Tenley just moved to Chicago to start grad school, and Hayden owns a tattoo shop. He’s into ink and steel, and Tenley is a bit of a mystery. Tenley is living in an apartment above a bookshop/antique store that is attached to a coffee shop. Hayden’s tattoo shop is across the street. Eventually she starts helping, and then working for her landlord, Cassie, who owns/runs the shop downstairs. Cassie, as it turns out, is Hayden’s aunt. He stops by to see her often and to grab coffee from the adjoining shop. The attraction is there for both sides, but that’s all we really see in this novella/prequel.

It was just a taste, and maybe the snippet at the end was what really whetted my appetite. Either way I definitely want to start Clipped Wings ASAP. I’m not sure if the prequel is really needed, but 99 cents is cheap enough.

Book #2-Inked Armor, is coming out in a couple of weeks. Another 99 cent novella, #2.5-Cracks in the Armor, featuring another partner in Hayden’s tattoo shop, Chris, comes out in June.

Apparently we’re left with a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of Clipped Wings, so I’m glad book 2 is coming soon!
