MacFarland knows what it’s like to live on the streets. Although he now has a place to live, he still keeps an eye out for the homeless community. He’s overjoyed when he learns that one of the “invisible people” he’s helped, Teena, a runaway teenager, has gotten a job in a mountain camp for homeless youth. But when one of her friends goes missing, she turns to MacFarland for help.

MacFarland soon discovers that the girl’s friend has been killed and that several other children are missing. Clearly something bad is going on at that camp. While he has his suspicions about the people behind the “adoptions,” it is when he discovers that man who killed his wife, Norris Peterson, might be behind the missing children, that the case becomes personal.

Can MacFarland find out what is happening to the homeless children before another child goes missing…or turns up dead?

MacFarland’s quest for justice—and revenge—takes him on a journey to the far corners of Colorado as he attempts to rescue Teena and the other homeless children.

I've lived in Denver for more than thirty years, but my job as a corporate trainer often kept me away from the city I loved. Finally I got the courage to follow my dreams and stay home and write about a character who has lived inside my mind for several decades: a disgruntled detective who runs a hot dog stand and studies foreign languages (both of which I have often dreamed of doing). Mark MacFarland is my idea of the ultimate hero. Not the kind who can save the world single-handed, but the kind who cares about what he is doing and does his best. He makes mistakes, often because he acts without thinking. Fortunately, he has Cynthia Pierson to do his thinking for him. He just needs to come to his senses and realize that.

I include a Colorado scene of Garden of the Gods and Manitou Springs for you poor unfortunate readers who can't be here in Colorado to see it in person. I am working my way through this series of mysteries that takes place in the Denver area. I live here, so it's nice to see the writer mention familiar places near my home.
This book involves homeless teenager working at a summer camp where nefarious things are happening. The protagonist is a reformed drinker and x-cop who runs a hot dog stand. He doesn't spend much time selling the hot dogs though, as he is off tracking down the bad guys and risking his life. Also, the author goes a step beyonr by making these ebooks affordable. Thanks!

Once again Mac MacFarland stumbles through, gets himself and other people shot, frustrates the cops, but annoys the bad guys more. In the end this unorthodox crime solver proves himself the better detective. I've read all three noir hot doggers by Mathiya Adams and enjoyed them all thoroughly. But I think I'll take a break now and go back to my fantasy. If she is going through the entire alphabet for titles I'll need to save myself for the 23 three to come. A great read!

The beauty of this series is that you can read them in any order; but don't. You'll want to make sure you've read all there is to read in this innovative series. I like the hotdog detective's dogged manner of crime solving...pretty much on his own, but occasionally assisted by his even more reluctant associates and Denver's street people. I enjoyed this one the best so far, because each story brings you closer to the charecters and their back-stories on the streets of the Mile-High City. Enjoy!
