OMG Kerry you have done it again!!! A great big fat 10 from me!! I could not put Cruel Secrets down had me gripped from page 1 i loved it, enjoyed reading of kellys life before she ran away after the nasty incident, but then when she legs it boy dos her life get more dramatic, i love all this gangland crime and Kerrys def made her way into my top 3 gangland authors. The way she writes and explains things and comes up with scenrios i wouldnt have dreamed of is brilliant and the reason why she is a top class author and i am a reader and lover of books. I would recommend this book to anyone and i just wish that my mum would start reading my kindle as i give her all my Kimberley Chamber booms and Madasue Heller books and she loves them as much as me so i know she would not be able to put Kerrys books down, im working on that though and would have to be when i have no kindles to read and plenty of books lol. Really glad kellys life changed as she deserved it and her dad and twisted auntie, even though she was obsessed for her brothers love and praise got what they deserved, i just cant wait now to read what comes next and whats happening with the rest of kellys 'family' if ever you run away and get bump into someone who is going to help you then thst is a family and half to do that! And love how once again Kerry brings a good old trusted loving dog into the story to give there weight of gold. Thats another reason i just love her books shes as soft for her dogs as i am. Keep it up kerry youre a legend!!!! ♦️🌟❤❤📚📚📖📖

Brilliant crime thriller

I get so excited it when I come across a new author and even more so when When I pick up their book and it exceeds all my expectations. Cruel Secrets by Kerry Barnes falls into this category and WOW I can’t believe I haven’t picked up a book by this author before, in fact I’m kicking myself, how have I never heard of this author before? The author writes what I call “grit lit” and it’s a genre I really enjoy reading, Kerry Barnes writing has been likened to that of Martina Cole, I would agree there are some similarities but in my opinion the author has her own unique style that made Cruel Secrets an exciting and very gritty read.
What I really loved about Cruel Secrets was the abundance of characters, all of whom appear lager than life, you have the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Kelly is a brilliant character you can’t help rooting for her, as someone who starts off as the underdog I loved the way her character evolved, she’s a mass of contradictions gentle but tough, caring but hard as nails when people cross her, but she also has an air of vulnerability that make the people she meets along her journey want to care for her and protect her. Unfortunately her father Eddie Raven, the epitome of a gangster thug is definitely not a likeable character, in fact I ended up despising him, to the “why” I felt like this you will just have to read the book and see.
Cruel Secrets explores the underbelly of the crime world, so expect violence and plenty of swearing, for me this added a gritty authenticity to the plot. The author certainly knows how to write a story that packs a punch. From the first chapter it’s one of those books that just grabs your attention with a wicked plot and characters who get under your skin and worm their way into your heart (but definitely not Eddie Raven). Kerry Barnes brilliantly delivers a story of violence, treachery and family ties, a fab book to read and an impossible one to put down. I will definitely be pre-ordering the sequel Wicked Lies which will be published in 2018.

Superb!

This book pulled me in from the very first page. Kelly Raven has lived a sad existence; growing up with her devoutly religious and cruel mother. Without giving much away, she ends up going on the run to London. I felt so much empathy towards this young girl and constantly spurred her on. In London, she is taken in by what becomes her 'new family'; all of whom are great characters. I laughed and cried. At almost five-hundred pages, this is longer than most books I read but by the end, I just wanted more. The next in the series is due out early 2018 but had it been available, I would have downloaded it straight away. I always read customer reviews on Amazon, both positive and negative. There were a couple of comments that it was a little far-fetched but I'd have to disagree. Living in a city and growing up on a council estate, I am all too aware that from the small dealer on the street, to the big men at the top, gangland is very real and this Author manages to convey that perfectly. This is definitely one of my favourites this year, absolutely loved it!

... all of Kerry Barnes' books and thought they were brilliant..
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 January 2018Verified Purchase
I have read all of Kerry Barnes' books and thought they were brilliant.......except this one, I was so disappointed. I felt the story was just told to me as if I was being read to. I felt no connection with the characters and couldn't really get into the heart of the book. If the story had been shown to me I think it would of been far better, I think it changed Kerrys style of writing which is a great shame as she is such a talented author, right up there with the best .......I hate writing anything negative in my reviews but I just wanted it to be an honest and hopefully helpful review.

AMAZING - great characters, some twists and turns - defo read if your into Martina Cole etc

This gets a big fat 10/10 from me. I have just finished the new Martina cole one and for me this one tops that one, so that says a lot to me. This author is right up there for me at the moment.
Some brilliant characters in this novel. Each character has their own personality trait. Kerry gives just enough information, description etc without over loading it, so you get to know each one, which makes the characters come alive. Some you will love, some you will hate. This novel has so many twist and turns and they all interlink which is great. It leaves you wondering and assuming yet your no where near close to what you think. It's full of action, drama, killings etc and some love.
I also enjoyed how it went through different era's which again made you have connections with some of the characters.
I really enjoyed this novel, couldn't put it down and never wanted it to end, for me it could of carried on and on :-) there is enough characters in this novel to do a number of novels from. Looking forward to her next novel, ideally if she could knocked out a good few a year would be a bonus :-)
