Reminiscent of a Dan Brown novel, and with those books referenced by the characters several times in this one, Alec, Cronin and their friends race around the planet, exploring crypts and different cities looking for clues to stop the impending invasion of beings from another dimension. A story with this level of complexity could have gone horribly wrong, but it didn't - it was beautifully executed and I was thoroughly engrossed for the whole book. The author has definitely done her research for this one, and I think may have a passion for complex mathematics- nine point circles in particular.
Once again the relationship and connection between Cronin and Alec gripped my heart - they are just amazing together, and their mate connection surpasses anything a contemporary novel could do - one of the many reasons I love a good supernatural book.
I would definitely recommend this series, and I'm thrilled that Kennard gets his own book, which I'm now off to read.
After reading this - mind. Blown. But in the best way possible.
Keep writing if you can find the time Ms Walker you bring joy to my life
Alec is now vampire as fated, he is “the Key” the saviour of vampires and humans, and his powers are unstoppable by anyone…..except…creatures from a different reality.
Book 1 is set in Egypt, Book 2 in China (Mongolia) and this book is in Russia. These books weigh heavily on history leaders of their time and Alec uses his Detective talents (which I call sleuthing) to work out where the bad guys are.
This third book is pretty full on for our lead man Alec. As the Key he has great responsibilities of which he would rather not have. He just wants a quite eternity with his love Cronin but they are constantly pulled from one drama to the next.
However, this is a very good series. The characters are awesome and the storyline interesting. Good job author, I really do love your work🙏

If you like Vampires and MM And history, magic and normal everyday world rolled into one, then this is the book for you.
Learning that although fated they have a choice, it doesn't have to be love, but it is the powers that be know.
The Key comes to save the Vampires and He is Human but fated to a Vampire And a sexy detective. what else could you ask for?
I don't know where the ideas come from for this book, However it blew me away. I Highly recommend for all. More than five stars NR Walker deserves for this series.
'And there in their private field at Dunadd, they danced.'
One more quest for the key. *sniffles*. Cronin, Alec and the gang have another evil force they are faced with and need to take down. This one is different though. This is different because Alec is the most powerful vampire and with that comes more responsibility than ever on his shoulders. Also the 'evil' this time around is different than before.
I was dreading this book... and I was right to because I am going to miss these guys SO FREAKING MUCH. All of the awesome characters we have met and got to know through the three books.
I loved this and so glad we got this book. I think in book two N.r. Walker gave us a satisfying end, the HEA that was well and truly deserved was delivered beautifully. With this book, it's life after the HEA, life after the reassurance. Yes all the paranormally (totally a word) stuff was there but life and relationships came into play here. Acceptance and appreciation really factored into this book and I loved that.
"The talk of wars reminds me of what is important. And that is you. It might be selfish and unfair to the others, but I want time with you, fear-céile."
"I love it when you call me that," Alec whispered, his heart too big for his chest. "M'cridhe."
"My husband, my heart."
I still loved Alec and Cronin just as much and came to love other characters just as much too. Essentially in the center of these books have been wars so I had an inkling there would be a death or two. I knew, really but the one that happened gutted me wide open, I mean, I totally GOT IT but that didn't stop it from hurting. Regardless, this was a brilliant ending to an amazing series that I'm going to really mourn for a long time. All the aspects that I have loved in the other books were not lost here. The book wasn't very steamy but it was the right amount for this story but the love between Alec and Cronin never wavered and neither did the friendships or the humour that has been a constant since book one.
I would totally be ok with a Kennard book. Just saying.
One of the things that I like about these books is that you can see the characters learning and growing. You can follow the development of relationships at an organic level. Characters are rounded and not afraid to show their vulnerable side or question themselves. For all Alec's amazing gifts he still has trouble with jealousy and facing that his father is getting nearer to death.
There are of course the usual puzzles to solve, re-interpretation of human history and bad guys to kill/stop. There is also the same humour, grit and determination as well fierce loyalty, love and friendship that I have come to expect from this series. Here's hoping that there will be another book.
