Product Description

He was my protector. My savior. He would have done anything for me.

Now he's a criminal, and he's taken everything.

He's my stepbrother and I hate him.

I'm homeless, jobless, desperate. And I had to come crawling back. To him.

Bad enough my college money went to post his bail, now I have to work in the same, seedy bar he deals out of, too, just to get by? And listen to him with girl after girl, night after night, while he walks around all shirtless and sexy during the day?

I'm going crazy--wanting him. I know I shouldn't.

Maybe he was once my Prince Charming, but now he's just a big, tattooed, pierced, cocky jerk.

Problem is, even though he cut contact with me two years ago, I couldn't turn off the feeling I had for him. He's back, and my feelings are back too.

Now he's in trouble, with his gang, with the law.

And me... I'm in trouble, too.

This is a complete, standalone romantic suspense novel.

I don't normally read these type of books. I'm not really into the whole stepbrother thing. However I did enjoy the book. It had a good plot line. Strong characters that were well developed and complex. The tone of the book was suspenseful, dramatic and intriguing. It's very well written with a fast pace. It definitely, easily keeps your interest and takes you on a wild ride with it's plot twists and surprises. It was good and I recommend it to anyone that likes a good dramatic, suspenseful book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only for those liking the more taboo side of stepsibling romance 6 October 2015
By morehumanthanhuman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Somewhere around the fifteenth or twentieth time we're told how tiny Abby and her body parts looked against her older stepbrother's massive parts, I got a little bit weirded out. Maybe it's because they constantly called each other "brother" and "sister." Or maybe it's because their love apparently began when she was way underage and he . . wasn't (although when the book takes place, Abby is legal -- barely). Maybe it's because despite her age, Abby still seems so much younger than Kaiden -- immature, childish, naive. She doesn't even seem to understand how babies are made. This isn't a story about step-siblings who meet and fall for each other. This is a story about two people raised as siblings and consider themselves to be brother and sister falling in love. Know that before you download.

That aside, this story has major gaps. Abby has to move in with Kaiden after their parents die (yeah, I know they're step-siblings, but they're essentially siblings and no mention is ever made of the parents except as their JOINT parents) and she finds out her college money was blown on bail for him years earlier. Kaiden supposedly wants to keep her out of his trashy life, but instead of helping her brainstorm ways to actually go to college, he lets her move in, incessantly abuses her verbally, and does nothing to help her escape the orbit of his criminal set. This made no sense, especially when we find out later that he actually loved her all along. Is he dumb? Or is he just selfish?

An somewhat incoherent thriller plot emerges, but it's just a backdrop for their budding romance. The plot has major holes and the HEA, such as it is, seems dropped from the sky.
4.0 out of 5 stars Baaad Boy Step-brother romance 21 July 2015

Criminal is a standalone, step-brother story told in alternating point of views, but mostly focused around Abigail’s take on things. Kaiden and Abigail are stepsiblings who grew up together since Abigail’s middle school years and became close, but their family tie is strained when Kaiden leaves home and gets involved with criminals. With the sudden death of both their parents and all her college money gone, Abigail feels abandoned and reeling from her efforts to save the family home. With no success, she’s left homeless and seeks Kaiden’s help until she can get back on her feet. Kaiden’s views appear to clarify his interactions with Ryder, the seedy bar owner who runs drugs and gun trafficking from the bar where Abigail works.

Have you ever read a book that started out slow, thinking it’s going to follow a formula, with a bit of angst, a bit of annoyance, and then a realization the H/h really do love each other? Well, Criminal was that, plus so much more! I finished Criminal in one sitting and I admit losing sleep over this story wanting to find out if Kaiden gets snuffed out before these two can possibly get their HEA. I was flipping my kindle pages as fast as I could read, and the story got better as each chapter unfolded. And Kaiden and Abigail’s characters became likeable as their barriers came down. Its like Kaiden was a totally sweeter biker guy towards the end, rather then his hardened, biker dude persona at the beginning. Anyway, hold onto your handlebars because the sex is smoking hot! And I didn’t expect that twist at the end coming either. Great job, Ms. Abbot. Criminal was an enjoyable read and I recommend the ride.

My rating: 4

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting angle on a stepbrother story by a newly discovered author 19 July 2015

I received an ARC for an honest review. This author was new to me and I am glad I've been introduced to her. This book was raw, intense, and gritty. You have this love/hate relationship with Kaiden(much like Abby!). He went to great lengths to get away from her. Poor Abby is so out of her element in her new circumstances but she struggles through. These are strong characters whose layers you get to see as the story develops. Well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars KAIDEN IS A SWOON-WORTHY HERO!! sigh 16 October 2015

Kaiden & Abigail. Stepsiblings. Trouble. Deep, overwhelming love. When their parents die, Abby is a sweet, young, pristine virgin who had to drop out of college because her fund was needed for his bail money. She claimed to hate him. She never did. She thought he abandoned her. He thought he was protecting her. Oh, the tangled web we weave... I refuse to give any more spoilers. It's not fair. You must read this entire book. Fantastic story. Dirty, filthy sex scenes.

Would I ReRead This Book? DEFINITELY!!
Would I Read Future Books By This Author?? ABSOLUTELY!!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from the Author in exchange for an honest, experienced review of which I think I have done so. The characters were well developed and the plot realistic and true to life. Ms Abbott did a great job in describing the angst, heartbreak and disillusionment this beautiful pair went through trying to save each other. I loved the self-lessness of Kaiden to give her everything and keep nothing. Oops, you gotta read it. No spoilers!! Fantastic story, Alexis Abbott!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different and intense! 8 August 2015
By ~Cerys - Published on Amazon.com

I've read a few stepbrother romances now, and this one was intense. Different in a lot of ways, but in a lot of good ways, too.

It started off with an interesting twist, what with their parents having passed away a few months back. I wasn't exactly expecting that, but I found it intriguing. Also, Kaiden is a little rougher at first than I'm used to, but I thought it was fun and interesting, too.

The way they come together was intense, though. There's a lot of subtle nuance to what's going on in their relationship. Kaiden likes to try and act tough and indifferent, but then behind the scenes he's really looking out for Abigail. She's a little naive to it at first, but she gets hints about it here and there. It's sort of a slow burn at first, but then it all boils over and it's full steam ahead!

This story was really intense, though. I think that's the best way to describe it. Everything is intensified by the dark underworld sort of aspects. This isn't just a bad boy, but a really rough and rugged criminal sort of thing. Basically, he's not just acting tough, but he really is tough, and I think that added a lot to the story. Abigail is sort of thrown into this world without really knowing what to expect, and it's not something she ever wanted, but now that she's there, well...

I liked the natural conflict and opposition, though. It made their relationship even more intriguing. Different, but intense.

If you're looking for a great stepbrother romance that's fun to read and with a bit of a darker bad boy angle, I'd really suggest this one! It's a great story with a lot going on and I think you'll really enjoy it. Highly recommended!
