After loving Nuts the first book in the series, I have been waiting for my pre-ordered copy of this book to arrive on my Kindle for over a year. I always enjoy an Alice Clayton book, her humour is exceptional and she makes romance and steamy scenes not cheesy (ironically, considering cheese is a large part of this book!) I did like this book but it took a while to get going unline Nuts the first book in the series which started off with a bang. It's over a quarter of a way in before we even see Oscar substantially and the chemistry is physical between them long before any decent dialogue. That being said, when it starts going it flys!
This is the story of two characters we briefly met in Nuts: dairy farmer, Oscar and advertising executive, Natalie. It's far from your typical city gal meets country boy romance however, as the two have been meeting at the farmers market on Saturday and checking each other out for some time.
They are polar opposites in every way. Natalie is full-figured, sexy and uber-confident. Loud, brash and very city. She makes no apologies for anything; her attitude, love of sex and cheese. She's very in your face. Oscar, is our broody, tattooed, monosyllabic dairy farmer. Yet he actuallyhas many layers that he only lets us get a leak into as the book unfolds.
We're treated to a fun ride that initially oozes sexual tension. Watching the normally confident Natalie get all shy and speechless around Oscar was fun and once they finally get more than a few words strung together, it was quite a bit of steamy banter.
Even though Cream of the Crop is book two in the Hudson Valley series, it can be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed it.... I'm still smiling....
