5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great little story 21 April 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
This is a great little story. If you like the author to tie up all the loose ends neatly in a bow before the words, 'The End' this might not be for you. But if you're looking for a well written story that is a bit different, I'd recommend you buy the book. The author keeps you guessing leaves you with a sense of wow, when it's over. Definitely worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Craving Stains...Brillant!!! 29 April 2015
By Paul Berry - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Wynn has been locked away since his birth in a sterilized apartment by his crazy mother. She has always claimed it was to keep him safe in his hospital like cage or are her intentions less motherly and more selfish? All Wynn ever thinks about is to escape his mothers clutches and be free for the very first time in his life. He meets the beautiful and sexy stranger, Doyle but now Wynn starts thinking could he be real or something his mind has conjured up?

I so enjoyed this short story by Alina as she keeps you guessing is Doyle real or the very creative imagination of a guy locked up his entire life by his mother. Whether he's real or not, the hot encounters were mind blowing and you are rooting that he's real for Wynn's sake. I liked that Alina has created something so very different from the other MM novels which was a huge delight to read. This mother OMG how she beat the system in making everyone think that Wynn has mental issues but it's actual her that is nuts. Will Wynn defeat his crazy mother and escape and experience the outside life for the very first time? Will the mother gets what's coming to her? Is Doyle real as Wynn needs someone finally in his court?

This novel was a complete joy to read as Alina takes us on a new type of journey. The way she created the characters, especially Wynn was just simply some brilliant writing. How the author keeps us guessing if Doyle is real and how exactly they meet is some of the best writing I have come across in awhile. I have to personally thank the author, Alina Popescu for writing a brilliant, steamy and thought provoking novel....Craving Stains. I highly and I mean highly recommend this novel to everyone as you will not be disappointed in the least!!!

"Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review."

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever & Thoughtprovoking M/M-Themed Novella 28 April 2015
By J. Faltys - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
With around 50 pages Ms. Popescu has crafted a thoughtprovoking and atmospheric tale where fantasy and reality are blurred to lead readers on a merry chase. With bits of sci-fi and futuristic elements too readers are shown a world full of dangers that a cruel woman uses to her advantage in her perverted name of love to wrap up with an ending that leaves readers guessing.

The cold and manipulative Moira Brenwood came from the slums but used all her twisted talents to rise to the top and become a very rich woman that uses those riches to keep her son locked in a gilded cage. Under the guise of keeping him safe he's a virtual prisoner, never allowed to leave or interact with anyone other than his mother and his doctor. Having lost the only two people she ever cared for has her desperate to keep Wynn safe but it feels as if there's more to her actions than just that and I felt that there were bigger secrets hidden beneath her pristine facade.

Wynn has been kept in isolation since a childhood illnes. His life is completely regimented, full of bland colors and bland food, with one day blending into the next. The only things that keep him going are the occasional promises to go out for a walk, which never come to fruition. All of this makes Wynn a truly sympathetic character, but one who's also a bit naive around the edges. Considering his cloistered state though this is no surprise. As he gets closer to the edge, showing his frustrations more acutely, a mysterious man shows up to give him moments of happiness, newfound sensuality, and acceptance. Is this man his savior or will he guide him further into the darkness? Regardless of what the answer is, Doyle is a mysterious character who's the complete opposite of Wynn but who shows great compassion towards this young man with the hope and promise he represents being truly enticing. How the story's conclusion is viewed will be up to the reader as they sift through the clues buried within the narrative in this memorable novella that deserves to be a full-length story.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Rating: 4 of 4 Stars (Short & Light Read Category) 21 April 2015
By johanna - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Being trapped for most of his life did not give Wynn the chance to have a life outside of his bubble room. So what his body cannot have, his mind found a way.

Who really knows what limits the brain has? This is a question that has boggled the minds of many scientists and up till now, they have not found the answers. They have theories, but not answers. For Wynn, his chance to get out there in the world is only through his mind and one day, he did. That is when he meets Doyle.

For all intents and purposes, Doyle is a real man. He lives in the world that Wynn has never stepped foot on. He is rough, tough and dominant. When he discovers Wynn, he realizes that there are some things in life that he had missed, and one was this little young man who stumbled into his room out of nowhere.

Through the adventures Wynn has with Doyle, there is his mother to contend with. She is a mother to beat all dragons whose only ambition in life is to make sure her son remains in his cage so she never loses him the way she lost everything and everyone else. She is a character we love to hate but when it really comes down to it, is she really as crazy as she seems, or is she just a desperate mother who knows life can take away everything in a snap.

As for Wynn and Doyle, there seems to be no hope for Wynn can never get out. Screaming for help in his mind, Doyle reaches out into a world he never thought to exist and hopes to get his Wynn back.

This is a science fiction short story unlike any I have read before. Many have I read these types of stories where the author's goal is to make us think. How? Why? What? Is it even possible? Are any of these events real?

For me they are, at least from Wynn's point of view. Then again I think they are real from Doyle's point of view. Which is real, which is not? This is a question only the reader can answer for themselves and what makes this a recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for more of Alina's books! 26 April 2015

Set sometime in not too far a future, Wynn Brenwood is sheltered from all things 'stained'. His mother doesn't want him contaminated by the outer world which had made him ill and almost killed him as a child (or so we're led to believe).
Like a child told not to reach for the cookie jar on the top shelf of the kitchen, Wynn craves the outside world, and the life that comes with it.
This novella takes us on a twisted journey through the minds of various people in a dystopic world.
The sci-fi element to the story is mild, however, just like with every story that is set in the future, we've got to leave our own perceptions of how things might function and look at it through the author's goggles. To be fair, Alina doesn't really give us any chance to complain on that front.
I, for one, would have loved the story to go on and on, since i like the premise so much, but the tight wound suspense of the story and how/where she chose to end it makes it even more delicious.
