Product Description

**Crave is a romantic suspense standalone. It may be darker than expected from a BJ Harvey novel but in no way is it a dark romance**

I have a craving.

A dark urge I’ve failed to resist despite years of trying to do that very thing.

I’ve forced myself to hide behind a mask, a perfect orchestration to hide my true self.

After I met her, my wants and needs, my inner most desires changed.

She encouraged me to embrace who I truly am, and she was willing to do anything and everything I wanted, giving herself to satisfy my most carnal appetite.

Then everything in my carefully managed world came crashing down around me. A moment in time, a loss of control, and the very thing I cherish was nearly taken from me.

My fate now lies in her hands.

The very life I’ve built for myself…everything I’ve ever done now waits in purgatory, all caused by a lack of focus at a time when my most concentrated attention was needed.

The very thing I crave may now be the end of me.

I finished reading this book a couple of days ago, but I've found it difficult to write this review... I mean how do you put into words how much you've FLOVED a piece of writing?? How much you fell in love with the characters?? When all the usual words, just don't feel like enough?? I'll try...

This is my first time reading ANYTHING by B.J. Harvey, (I know.. I can't believe it either) I went in & quickly found myself intrigued by Cal, our leading male, he wore his mask so carefully. His best friend, Grant helped lighten him, ever so slightly, but the mask only seemed to hold fast... that is until a chance meeting acharity ball. Lucia is everything Cal hasn't seen in a while.

There was so much going on within this book, but B.J. exceeded any expectations I had when first opening this book. It was dark when needed, there were secrets that kept you guessing until B.J. was ready for you to learn just what it was. The rollercoaster of emotions, twists & turns all throughout this book, pulled you in, leaving you breathless & waiting til the next twist or secret.

So yeah, I'm not sure this is enough, or even makes sense, but I really did FLOVE this book & plan to read B.J. Harvey's other books in the future.

Crave has been a long while coming, but man oh man, is it worth every second of the wait.

Callum Alexander - women want him. Men want to be him. But they don't see the man behind the facade.

He has been the man they want him to be for so long that he doesn't know how to be any different.

Until her. Until Lucia.

Can I just say right not - I freaking LOVE Lucia - Luce.

From the minute we met her, I couldn't help be adore her to bits. You can just tell she is a bit mischievous. Sassy and sweet. A lot of fun.

And you just know that she is going to be the best thing to ever happen to Callum.

"This woman is both my sin and my salvation. One look at the desperate need in her eyes has me wanting to drop to my knees in worship."

The more we got to know our lovelies, the more I wanted, no needed to know more. Sometimes we can get bogged down with too many details about characters, but it was the completed opposite. I craved every single morsel that Ms Harvey gave us.

There is a bit of mystery through Crave too. Someone is sabotaging Callum's company, there is a nuisance reporter hounding his every move,. I had an idea of who was behind things, but were they? I was surprised as things were revealed.

My heart clenched as Callum's dark cravings came out to play. We already know he's a naughty boy, but there was a couple of WTF moments to be had!

"I'm the ultimate sinner. A conceited man who took what was offered without any forethought given to the rise or the wide-reaching effects of the act itself."

I also LOVED Callum's best friend and business partner Grant. We NEEEEEED more of him - STAT!

Ms Harvey takes us on one heck of a ride with Crave.

This was a very intense and hot read.
I was hooked from the moment I started reading this book. I loved both Callum and Lucia's characters. Lucia is strong and independent and Callum is good and kind despite the darkness inside of him. They have an instantaneous draw to each other, have amazingly hot chemistry and compliment each others personalities wonderfully.
The suspenseful aspects of the story gain momentum through the book. There are twists and turns that kept me guessing where things would go to next.
I loved this book and would highly recommend reading it if you enjoy strong characters, hot chemistry and intense suspense!

5.0 out of 5 stars #ICRAVEMORE 22 October 2015
By Jennifer Pierson: The Power of Three Readers - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This is my first book by B.J. Harvey, and OMG I LOVED it so much!

Callum Alexander is a talented, successful architect, and highly sought after bachelor, who lives his life hiding behind a mask. He has a darkness he's afraid to give in to because the scandal would explode from his actions if it got out. So he refuses to let any woman in. However, he never saw her coming until it was too late. Lucia "Luce" Harding is completely different from the women he's used to dealing with. She's independent, loyal, strong, feisty, full of sass, stubborn, and knocks down every one of his walls, plus the ones he tries to build with her. Will Callum drop his mask and take a chance on love?

I'm a first time reader of this author, and frankly, I couldn't get enough of this story. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out Callum's dark secret while reading, and was shocked when I did, as I was sure it was 10 times worse. Character development is great, and I really enjoyed the story being told in his POV. The storyline is well written, highly addicting, and flows smoothly. The secrets and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat cover to cover, and I thought my heart was going to burst out of my chest a couple of times. Callum and Luce's chemistry exploded out of my kindle, which led to extremely SCORCHIN HOT sexy scenes. BJ Harvey did an amazing job with her fantastic writing style grabbing my attention from the beginning, and holding it hostage to the end. Actually, to be honest, she still has it since I haven't quite moved on to another book yet. I'm a new fan, and so very excited to read more of her books ASAP!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read that will keep you riveted from beginning to one heck of an ending!! 20 October 2015

Crave could be BJ Harvey’s most thought-provoking book to date. An idea swirling around in the author’s head for the past two years, I for one, am thrilled it finally has a voice.

This is the gripping love story between Callum and Lucia. Each independent, strong people who know what they want and how to get it and when they find an almost instant attraction to each other upon meeting, each is thrown for a loop. He is the well-known local golden boy architect who seems to have the world at his feet and she is the co-owner of a Greek restaurant with her brother. Callum doesn't need nor does he want a relationship. He is used to having a woman when the desire strikes him but never wants the intimacy that a one-on-one union would entail. That is until he meets the beautiful Lucia. And then it's all he can do to stop himself from wanting more.

From the very first pages, there is a distinct air about Callum that I truly liked. He isn't the typical macho alpha but instead a man who harbors a dark need he is afraid to fully embrace. He gives a sense of vulnerability that I adored. Although he wears a mask when he is with clients or the press or anyone in the public, to know that only a few, being a close friend and confidant in Grant or his immediate family, ever really see the true Callum, left me more than intrigued.

With Lucia, the mask starts to disappear and with that is an exposure Callum just isn’t used to. His unease with this newly-found persona is suddenly threatened by a particularly devastating incident that he fears will cause him to lose the only woman that has gotten through to him. Together with an underlying mystery that is filled with many twists and turns and could cause complete professional ruin for Callum and his company, the author has successfully created a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat!

I was taken completely off -guard many times throughout this journey, with the last line a truly perfect way to end this story.

It is a book NOT to be missed. You will find yourself applauding the author for stepping a bit out of her comfort zone and giving us a book that won’t soon be forgotten. I can only hope we hear more from some of the secondary characters because clearly they too, have a tale to tell.

A solid 5 stars!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping and suspenseful right until the very end 20 October 2015

Sometimes you wait for a book for so long that you build it up so much in your mind that by to time it is released, you're left feeling a little bit disappointed....this did not happen with Crave! With each new teaser I saw, I got more and more intrigued and the final result was a book that held me captivated with every twist and turn, literally right up until to the very last word.

From the time I first read the blurb, I became a little obsessed with trying to work out what Callum's "thing" was. Was he into BDSM? Did he have some super kinky fetish? Was he a vampire? Enter Lucia. I'm a huge fan of strong, smart heroines and this is something BJ Harvey excels at writing. Luce is the type of woman who is mature enough and confident enough to know what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. There is no beating around the bush with her. One of the things I loved most about her though was how good she was at talking to Callum. She just had a way of listening and encouraging him, both sexually and in his everyday life, without coming across as condescending or preachy. In a way she is very therapeutic for Cal with the calming effect she have over him and the way she could break down walls so the self enforced social mask Callum wore slowly disappeared. Basically Lucia is Callum's equal on all levels and shows him that the best Callum Alexander is the one he keeps hidden.

The biggest surprise for me was how much interest I had in Callum's professional side. At one point, this actually became the main focus for me and I had forgotten that there was this dark craving he suppresses. It became quite clear that there was so much more to this story. The further you got, the more layers unfolded and you realised just how complex Cal's life could get. A big part of this is the celebrity status and notoriety that the media can place on a person because they have achieved prominence in their profession and have than image they can work with. Reputations have a way of being built on what's reported in the news, no matter how much truth is in it, and this can affect they lives in all facets. While there is always the danger of trying to be too tricky by putting too much into a storyline and having it fall flat, this was so well thought out and written that everything just combined to create a most enthralling saga.

This is serious book hangover material and I can't wait for more! I'm totally in love with Callum's best friend, Grant, so there must be a second book!

2.0 out of 5 stars H wasn't much of a book boyfriend and reveal didn't live up to the build-up 22 October 2015

2.5 Stars

In chapter one , we meet 34 year old Callum Alexander via his first person POV as he informs the reader that he’s a successful architect who harbors some deep, dark predilection. It’s what he craves, hence the title. He then meets Lucia “Luce” Harding , 28, a waitress at the event he’s attending. They share some kind of moment (I didn’t really feel it but he says so)…. “And then I f*@ked another woman wishing it were her. Can it get any lower?”

That’s exactly what I wondered about this story as I entered chapter two with him banging away with some one night stand he uses on repeat. How am I supposed to get into the romance of him with Luc, the woman he claims he can’t stop thinking about, if in my head I have the image of him thrusting away with Jodi!???

And maybe that’s why I never quite felt anything spectacular here. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Callum and Luce, and I certainly didn’t feel the love. What unfolds is mostly the desire and dark fantasy of a man suffering from some misguided repression who over-thinks his “inner demons” and under-thinks the important red flags right in front of his face.

Gawd did this man annoy me! He doesn’t work as a “dark hero” because he comes off a whining, overly lamenting wuss. I really found no “book boyfriend” qualities about him. On top of that, his life is a train wreck.

I have a real pet peeve about stories that drag out “the secret” or in this case the “dark urge” or “the mask” with the main character anguishing over it for pages and pages. These reveals rarely ever live up to the expectations, and this story is no exception.

As far as Luce goes, I failed to find why she was so special. Yes, she’s different from the women that Cal typically bedded, but that didn’t say a whole lot since he supposedly had a history of shallow, social-climbing women who did not give the female gender a good reputation. Perhaps part of my failure to connect with Luce came from her lack of voice in the story told solely by Cal. The reader never knows what she’s thinking or why she’s so enamored of Cal.

I also failed to see how Cal was such a public celebrity. I couldn’t name one famous living architect today yet alone find one making the national gossip pages. Hollywood typically keeps those pages filled so why the media would be so obsessed with a budding architect seemed a little contrived. At the same time, I struggled with sympathy for Cal’s many plights as he either contributed to them or was so clueless to see them coming.

All in all, the majority of the story paces pretty slow; it’s a little angsty, and is about sex rather than romance. The suspense plot is fairly transparent. I might have been able to overlook that a bit if the characters had been more gripping and likeable, but as it was it just didn’t work for me. As far as erotic suspense goes, nothing here felt cutting edge and all of the themes and sexual content I’ve read before in other stories which crafted it on a higher and deeper developed level with much more suave and enigmatic heroes. Basically for all the build-up, it just felt kinda blah.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story! 9 March 2016
By Carol - Beauty in the Beastly Books Blog - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Crave is the type of book that lovers of romance can’t not like! It has romance, but it’s laced with some darker aspects. Crave is not a dark book, but we can see how the characters test their own barries and how they deal with it is what makes it different than the usual love stories.

I loved Callum Alexander and how he is a walking dicotomy. He is the perfect son, he was raised in church, with a loving family, but inside he has a craving. Something his upbringing would consider “dark” and something he didn’t even know how much he needed until he meets Lucia.

Lucia is a great heroine. She is very direct, goes after what she wants and doesn’t apologize for how she is or what she wants.

And one of the things I most liked about Crave is that it doesn’t have any additional drama. Everything in the story is there because it has to be there, there’s nothing for shock value or drama for sake of drama. And B.J. Harvey NAILED it!

I LOVED that Callum isn’t the typical alpha male (nothing against them, I like most of them – I don’t like “fake” alpha males though). He is all dominant, but with in a understated way. At least until you really meet him. He is a total gentleman and yet, he is hot as hell. I LOVE when authors write those kind of characters. Characters different from the norm, dominant without being real jerks. The characterization in Crave is flawless! From the main characters to the supporting ones, everyone one of them has a role in the story and is written in a way to make it work.

And because the story also has a mystery going on, that is one of the things that makes it work. So we get a romance, some HOT scenes between Cal and Lucia, mystery, action… and on top of that, we get great characters! And it’s all B.J. Harvey’s merit! She’s been writing this story for 2 years and I have to say it was worth the wait!

Now for the mystery part of the book…I really enjoyed it, and even though I got it from the beginning of the book (although I didn’t get the reasons behind it), I liked that it wasn’t overly dramatic. It has the right ammount of it, specially because besides the mystery, there is also a conflict playing in Cal and Lucia’s relationship. Something happens and on top of everything something serious is happening to Callum professionally. It seems like it’s a lot, but in truth, it all worked out great. Everything make3s sense in this story.

Both the hero and the heroine aren’t perfect, they have their flaws, but it’s great that together they can finally overcome what alone they can’t even accept! I love that Lucia brings the darkness in Cal to the light, so he finally sees his cravings aren’t wrong. Specially because he found the right person to share them!

I can’t wait to see what B.J. Harvey has in store for us next!!! :)
