This story was filled with action and adventure. Thorn and Sofia were a compatible couple. The story of "them" wasn't the problem. It was the horrible writing by the author!
Sofia runs away from a man who's been holding her prisoner in his Mexican compound. She's pregnant and doesn't want her baby growing up with the abuse she's been going through for the past year. The sex they had to create this life she refers to as rape. She is told to look for Hank Derringer when she makes it to the states...he will help her. As the story begins, it's action packed with her escape. With a storm brewing, she finds refuge in an abandoned shack.
Thorn is a former sheriff who's lost his pregnant wife to a criminal who was seeking him out. He's filled with guilt that she paid the ultimate price for revenge against him. He now works for Hank and he's out checking the ranch fences looking for those who may be trying to enter the US illegally. He does come across the hole in the fence Sofia made. After he repairs it, he follows the trail she left with her motorcycle. When they meet, it's in this abandoned shack. Their meeting shows how spunky she is and his personality.
Once Sofia meets Hank, of course he assigns Thorn to be her bodyguard. They have chemistry. He holds onto his grief and doesn't want to have feelings for anyone. He wonders why, after 2 years, he feels an attraction to Sofia. Overall, their story flowed rather well.
However, Sofia hasn't seen her family in a year. When she finally calls them, there is NO reason for them to call her Sofia! Her real name is Elena. In the beginning of the story she realizes she has to get used to being called by her middle name. Her mother should have referred to her as Elena. When Hank gathers his "team" to go to Mexico and the compound, BEN Harding from the first book in this series is now BLAISE??????? If an author can't even remember the name of one of her heroes in a different book, it's no wonder why there are so many holes in this series. The consistency (or better, lack of it) makes me wonder not only why the author can't remember names and facts, but what about her editor? NO ONE caught Ben/Blaise? Really?
I enjoyed Thorn and Sofia as a couple, but in a series, the other characters should be accurate if they're going to be carried forward.
This story pulled me right in, and is was so hard to put down, that I was almost late to work. The suspense, action, and romance was very good in this book.
The story starts out with Sophia running away from her ex fiancé Antonia. He was abusive, and held her as a prisoner at La Fuerte del Diablo in Mexico. She had to find shelter for the night, because of a storm moving in. She was lucky to find an abandoned cabin to crash in until the storm passed. Shortly after she laid down a big man came into the cabin. Let's just say the first time she met Thorn was intense. Afterwards he appointed himself as her body guard. The romance between the two was sweet. Thorn was dealing with his own heart ache. He had never recovered from losing his wife. Sophia helped him heal, so he could move on.
Sample from chapter 1 - Her own life seemed unimportant, but when Sophia discovered she was pregnant, she knew a baby wouldn't survive the hell she'd lived in for the past year. That's when she'd vowed to escape or die, and take her baby with her rather than subject it to the terror that was its father. ******************
Another Sample from chapter - Sophia brushed away the tears and looked around, not sure which way to go. Instinct told her to head north. With only a compass to guide her, and the few provisions she'd loaded into her backpack, she was on her own. Alone, and pregnant.
Sample from chapter 5 - Every time her knuckles brushed against his skin, an electric current zinged through him, setting his pulse pounding faster.
Sample from chapter 14 - Nothing to it - as long as she could dodge the border patrol, evade the FBI and, most of all, escape the notice of the cartel members set on killing her.

Book 2 Killer body
I really enjoyed this book! It had the perfect blend of action, suspense, and romance. This book pulled me right into the plot.
Savvy wakes up in a hospital with amnesia. She is also the target of a Mexican drug cartel. She is wanted for murder, but can't remember anything. She does know she couldn't kill anyone. She wouldn't be able to kill a bug, much less a person. Savvy knows she is being framed.
Dawson is hired to be her bodyguard. Dawson didn't want to be her body guard. He didn't want the responsibility of another person's life. He thought he had let too many people down in his past. Dawson is alpha male, but also dealing with a lot of guilt. He doesn't think he is the man for the job. His actions on the other hand, tell that he is the only man that can protect Savvy.
When Dawson's replacement shows up to relief him of his duties as bodyguard to Savvy, he can't drop the case. Together Savvy, and Dawson dodges bullets, finds out who Savvy really is, and finds out who the real murder is. The romance was perfect, and sweet. Savvy touches his heart, and teaches him to let go of his guilt that he has been carrying around for years.
I'm adding this book to my favorite's list!
Sample from chapter1 : Again she tried to remember what brought her here. Had she been in a wreck? Where was her family? A sudden emptiness filled her chest pressing hard against her heart. Did she have family? She glanced around at the sterile rom. No flowers, no get well cards, no signs of anyone caring whether she lived or died. She didn't know what was worse: That she couldn't remember who should care about her, or that she didn't actually have anyone who cared about her. For the life of her, she couldn't picture anyone, couldn't name a name, not even her own.
Sample from chapter 3 - "I have to do it. Someone has to be trying to frame me. Until I remember what happened, I'm the prime suspect. My memory is the only thing standing between me and jail."
Sample from chapter 6 - The warm, soft feel of his mouth against hers sparked desire so powerful she couldn't pull away. His arms tightened as he crushed her to him, deepening the kiss into something so savagely desperate, Savvy couldn't determine where she ended and he began. They fused as one in that searing, rugged connection.
Sample from chapter 7 - "Sometimes memories can be more painful than forgetting." She faced him, her eyes large pools of deep green in the light from the dash. "Those painful ones help define who we are as a person. They make us stronger. We learn from our mistakes."
Another sample from chapter 7 - If you forget everything about her, you'd be forgetting the good along with the bad. Do you really want that?"
Sample from chapter 10 - "To whom?" she snorted softly. "To the drug lord's thugs, I'm a hit job. To you and your friend Jack, I'm an assignment. To the D.A., I'm a witness or a suspect." She shrugged. "Just leave it, Dawson. You don't have to pretend to give a damn."
Sample from chapter 11 - Dawson slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. Savvy lurched forward and her head bumped against the dash, a sharp pain slashing through the wound at her temple. Dizzying lights flashed across her vision. A loud band erupted from the car running along side them, followed by a thunk against their rental's metal car frame. "Tell me they're not shooting at us," She cried. "Okay, I won't tell you. But you might want to hang on." Dawson shoved the gearshift into reverse, spinning the car around.
Sample from chapter 13 - Dawson hit the floor and rolled to the side, yanking the glock from his shoulder holster. The sharp report of weapons fire echoed off the walls, the acrid scent of gunpowder warring with the lingering scent of alcohol.
Story two...amnesia blocked all memories of what had happened to her. Her bodyguard, though reluctant to be there, kept her safe, for a time. She was accused of murder, who were the good guys and who were the bad. She couldn't remember anything. Through the course of events she did and fell in love.
Great suspense and characters that wrap you into the story immediately.
