I nearly didn’t get this book due to the boring, mass produced cover, but I am so glad I did. Once I started it, I was hooked and stayed up late until I was exhausted and then finished it the next morning. There are no wildly new or exciting ideas in this book, I have read a dozen similiarly themed, but this one was writen really well. The characters and world building were interesting, but not too complex, and the simmering romance is delicious - no insta-love, or fated mates rubbish. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and will definately look for the sequel, which I assume will provide more depth to the backstory and relationships (eg. Why did he take a vow of silence? I want to know more about Ciara)
Great start to new series. Haven't read the other books thats part of same world but don't feel like I'm missing out. Main character is brilliant - just enough of sass & determination without being over the top as other paranormal books. Can't wait for the others in the series.... so now, with my cuppa, I'm on to # 2 :)
This book grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go. The story was engaging and I loved the characters. Arianna is strong, yet has a vulnerability that makes her more relatable. Ruadan is fascinating – the ultimate definition of the strong, silent type ;)
I’m really looking forward to the next book, and I’m sure I will reread this a few times while I’m waiting.
Wow...just wow! Once again CN Crawford has started off a new series with a bang! I throughly enjoyed reading Court of Shadows and as soon as I started my attention was fully captivated and was completely invested in Arianna’s life. And what an interesting FMC she is! Powerful, cunning, vulnerable and a fighter! You learn a bit about her in this book and about her past but I still have so many questions about her and who she actually is! And then let’s add in Ruadan...now he is so intriguing, silence does not stop the reader wanting more from him, he is a great character that I cannot wait to see more of in book 2!! I also loved the scenes with Bael and Caine and am excited to see them more in the series! This is a great first book, written by very talented authors, that is full of action, mystery and magic! Highly recommended.
Arianna is not just badass. She’s sassy and loaded with sarcasm which gave this novel an edge. The author’s writing is exceptional. It’s clever, witty and unique with just the right amount of mystery and intrigue. This is a great read even for those who don’t particularly enjoy Fae novels (like myself) I’m looking forward to the next instalment!
"Court of Shadows" by CN Crawford introduces a fascinating character in Arianna. The world of magic and London blend well. The story felt a bit like a Donna Augustine one. There's darkness in Arianna's life and past, but she's strong and loyal. The push-pull of her relationship with Ruadan is compelling. I'm glad this is a four-book series because I want MORE!
There's the supernatural characters, a sense of urgency when the main character, Arianna, is in danger, a dangerous and mysterious past for her and her gorgeous mentor, as well as the humour of her internal dialogue that separates the gloom. The ending worked but seemed a little off. Like rose water scent fae's motives didn't quite fit. Even in the world sense, it seemed a little off how it all sort of came together.
So happy I found this series. It's been hard to find a new read that gets me hooked straight away, and this series is definitely binge-able. It's dark, it's intriguing, it's a little bit sexy, and not at all cheesy. And funny too! Some seriously great use of humour. Downloading the next one as we speak.
