5.0 out of 5 stars A scandalous and adventurous woman
Reviewed in Australia on 24 September 2021
What an adventurous spirit this woman was. She was scandalous and spiky but never stuffy. I was open-mouthed at some of her behaviour. Her life had so many unexpected plot twists as she became a best-selling novelist, a countess, mother, lover and much more. I loved how candid she was about the difficulties of marriage and motherhood. Her second marriage to an English earl was a disaster but it made for amazing reading. I also enjoyed how this biography of Aussie-born Elizabeth von Arnim evoked colonial Sydney, high-society London, and America on the verge of war. A real page turner.
