What a Great read. It is written in the inimitable style Strike is so famous for. Anyone who has not purchased a copy should do a rapid ascent from their bottom, get a copy and enjoy the best surface interval of their lives.
No matter if you have only 'dipped your toe' into diving or are amongst the 'elite' instructors / explorers of the wonderful life beneath the waves, this book will not disappoint.
As I turned each page it was impossible not to think back over my personal diving experiences and not relate to many of the characters and incidents portrayed (some good and some not so good) in this book.
At the end of this read, I realised it will likely be hard to take myself seriously ever again.

Drawing on six decades spent in a variety of diving roles, David Strike’s personal misadventures and occasional lapses in good judgement provided him with more than enough material for a regular magazine column; one that ran for many years in Asian Diver as well as other regional diving publications.
This is a complete collection of the tales that featured in that column, along with some other whimsical scuba-diving-related notions that have crossed David’s fevered brow from time to time.
With an irreverent take on sometimes-serious diving issues – ranging from training and practical diving techniques, through to marine conservation, equipment and safety – it is easier to introduce this book by telling you what it is NOT about.
Although containing references to diving’s past, this is not a history book. Nor is it about: underwater photography, technical diving, health & fitness, physics, philosophy, equipment, training programmes, dive travel, marine life, the environment, political correctness, or any of the other topics covered in its pages.
It is, in fact, nothing more than a collection of light-hearted commentaries peopled with largely fictitious characters. However, should you discover a little of yourself in its pages then it may well be time to give serious thought to returning to those old diving manuals gathering dust on your bookshelf.

Many deep, heart felt laughs. Serious messages for the experienced and novice divers mixed up in some hilarious stories. I think the people that will get the most out of your book will be those with a good sense of humor and do not take themselves too seriously.

Essential reading for any new SCUBA diver...
Reviewed in Germany on 31 March 2022Verified Purchase
Landed yesterday and started to read this book last night with the intention to read just a few pages here and there when i can.
My god i couldn't stop reading. This book is nothing but amazing reflections, observations and truths about the SCUBA Industry / sport / leisure / Macho bravado activity.
Great read, incredibly well written, and I would 100% recommend this to anyone who is just really 'getting in to' SCUBA.
12 out of 10 from me.
