Erika
I was told that dreams were our heart's desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist. My boyfriend's older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He's handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college's basketball team and now gone pro, he's more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid...
For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away. Now, I've graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven't stopped watching Michael.
He's bad, and the dirt I've seen isn't content to stay in my head anymore.
Because he's finally noticed me.
Michael
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother's girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven't had her body, I know that I have her mind. That's all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college. In my city. Unprotected.
The opportunity is too good to be true, as well as the timing.
Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they're out.
We've waited. We've been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.
*Corrupt is a STANDALONE dark romance with no cliffhanger. It is suitable for ages 18+.

I found it very difficult to wrap my head around the characters in the book. The only one I felt a connection with was Michael Christ. He intrigued me from the beginning, even though he made my head spin at times. He was such an alpha and took me on crazy a roller coaster ride with his emotions, that were all over the place.
The highlight the book for me was the steam room sex scene. It was sizzling hot in every sense of the word! Did I enjoy the book? Yes, cause it appealed to my dark side. Bad boys doing really bad things, but as I said before, I prefer my men to be adults, and not boys pretending to be adults.
Will I read anything else written by this author? Yes, cos I like her writing style.
Do I recommend this book,? Yes I would, faults and all!
Go ahead, read it and decide for yourself what you think.
So many dark themes with a strong love at the centre. Some broken people, that need others to bring them back to the land of the loving.
I really liked all of these characters, both main and secondary. Iām looking forward to continuing this series.
Rika and Michael - great pair.
Iām looking forward to Kaiās book next.

4 star listen, duel narration. I didnāt mind the narration but tbh I would have preferred a different female/male combo I donāt know if they really worked well together.
Worth the listen/read tho.
I really loved this book but I have to mention that I found it odd that when the truth is revealed to Rika she doesnāt seek her own revenge. Instead she was way too quick to forgive, allowing Michael too manipulate her again, giving in to him. It made her look pathetic and weak, which is a stark contradiction to the strong resilient and feisty Rika we saw throughout most of the book.(Hence the 0.5 star taken off)
There are some heavy hot sex scenes throughout, one, is so erotic it will have you fanning your face.
I found this story so intruiging, the suspense and ruthless manipulation was nail biting and even though it was disturbingly creepy on all sorts of levels I could not stop reading, wanting to know what the outcome would be.
1 Star for the suspense - I was nervous because i didn't know what they were going to do to Rika.
1 Star - for the thresome between Kai, Rika and Michael, that was hot.
1 Star - For Trevor's ending and for the epilogue. It was great insight into how Michael changed.
I think one of the mixed emotions i had for this book was because Rika took so much from Michael, he treated her so awful but she kept going back. I think she should have walked away and made him run after her for a change. Also the apologies and then they had a party like they didn't just torture her. I felt like Kai was the only one sorry. Not sure if i will continue with this series.
Iām not 100% sure how I feel about this book - but in saying that it MADE ME FEEL and it was so many different emotions - So for me thatās a 5 star! When a book leaves me thinking, reconsidering everything and just a whole load of WOW!
A Dark twisted romance with lots of suspense. Yes the plot is unbelievable and unrealistic but thatās half the fun. Full of drama and rich kids acting like they are above the law and dishing out their own form of justice.
At times I hated the characters and at others I loved them.
And OMG that sauna scene š„µš¶š„

Itās a twisted, dark journey thatāll have you question yourself. I should have known going in but I was intrigued. After seeing a video on tiktok for this book I had to see what the fuss was.
Not even three chapters in Iām pausing to quickly rush and buy the rest of the books off Amazon.
Donāt expect your sweet normal contemporary read here, itās not happening. And I love the fact that I can wander off the path into reads like this. Addictive. Phenomenal. Engaging. The twists and turns were page turning.
Itās a yes from me.

This ended up being one of the most ridiculously convoluted books I've read in a long time. Honestly, the more I read, the more it annoyed me until the point where it just became utterly stupid and unrealistic on every level. I can only suspend my disbelief for so long and this tested my patience far too many times.
I ended up hating pretty much every single character in this book. Rika was so irritating. She was weak as hell despite everyone going on about how strong she was. I'm sorry, but even though she was pissed off with the horsemen for what they were doing to her, she still let them do it. She went along with EVERYTHING! Like how is that a strong heroine? Also she just forgave Michael even though he never apologised for what he did. Like if you're going to write an antihero, you have to redeem him and Micheal never redeemed himself. I liked him in the beginning but after everything which went on in this book, I ended up thinking he was just as weak and irritating as Rika.
I didn't enjoy the way the book played out. Whilst I didn't mind the back and forth with present and past, tell me why I had to wait until almost 70% into the book to find out why Kai, Will and Damon went to prison? Like Damon's was hinted at so I guessed it, but the other two?! It just made me not empathise with the characters at all. Maybe I'd have understood Michael more if I'd known earlier why his friends went to prison. And don't even get me started on the fact this was all down to miscommunication and a misunderstanding. I despise this as a plot device!
I can't finish this review without talking about that threesome scene. There was zero reason for it to happen and the reasons given were quite frankly ridiculous. It wasn't even sexy or hot because the sex mechanics in it were so off, I ended up cringing. No lube is a HUGE no-no!!!!
All in all, I just really didn't enjoy this. It took me forever to read as I kept getting annoyed and bored. The ending was just over the top ridiculousness and there was zero need for that epilogue. Whilst Penelope's writing was good, the character development was off, the plot was overly convoluted and quite frankly completely unrealistic and it just left me with a sour taste in my mouth. So I won't be continuing with the series because I can't put myself through any more of this. It's too bad as I was looking forward to this series, but it's just not for me.

Seriously love it!
Wow! I don't even know where to start. I finished this yesterday, and I am still trying to figure out how to write something that makes sense! I keep deleting everything I write, because I don't think anything I say will be able to put into context, just how much I have loved this book.
Penelope Douglas pushes her characters to the absolute maximum, and just for fun, she pushes them a little but further.
Rika (Erika) is treated like a delicate child. She is protected by those around her at all times. She is constantly being held back and she needs to be free. Rika steps out on her own one night and stands up for herself, showing just how much people have underestimated her. This is the first time she has shown her inner strength and it does not go unnoticed.
Michael is always indifferent around Rika, like she doesn't exist.
Throughout the story we are taken back to a particular day, three years earlier. This is a day that had a huge impact on Rika, Michael and his friends. It is that day, that lays the foundation for the current events. Reading from both Michael and Rika's point of view and also switching between present day and three years earlier, kept the suspense building nicely.
Along with the suspense angle, there is also the 'will they, won't they' between Rika and Michael.
There is honestly so much more that I could say about this book. But honestly, if like me, you have held off reading it, I suggest you rectify that soon. I don't think you will regret it.
This is one of those books that is going on my top reads for this year.

Well this book certainly came with it's many twists and turns and alot of surprises along the way. Erika has been infatuated with Michael since she has been a little girl but he has never paid her any attention and she has always been pushed to date his younger brother Trevor, who she has only sees as a friend.
Now Michael has left school, he still comes home every year for The Devils Night, a tradition he set up with his 3 friends where they each pull a prank on someone that night. They are infamously known as the Four Horsemen and are never caught for anything they do on that night becuase they each wear a mask š¹.
One year they deicde to let Erika join the group on Devil's Night and she finally gets Michael to notice her, he brings out a side to her she has always kept hidden from others that only he sees bottled up. Unfortunately the night turns into a complete disaster and the consequences land Kai, Will and Damon in prison for 3yrs.
Michael has spent these years hating Erika and planning his sadistic revenge on what he "thinks" she did that night that landed his friends in prison. What he didnt expect is to still be attracted to her and so begins a game of cat and mouse, both trying to out best one another and prove they aren't quitters. The more time he spends with her the more he's finding it hard to resist Erika and he's starting to believe she was made for him. Will he still follow through with his plan of revenge with his other Horsemen by his side? What will Erika do when she finds out it was all just one dark plot to get back at her for something she didn't do? Who was it that set them up all together years ago?
This book had me pulling my hair out at times, I found both MC's extremely frustrating with the way they acted towards one another. All they had to do was communicate, if they had done that from the beginning then all this mess wouldn't have happened. I did enjoy the book up until the certain point, I found the last few chapters really annoyed me but I think that is because of my personal preference. If your into intense, dark romances with some thriller aspects then you should give this a read š¤š¤.

This is the first in the Devilās Night series and I started reading it again on Devilās Night itself - 30th October. The series follows the āfour horsemenā. Four guys from the same town who like to raise hell one night a year. Until one year it all goes awry and ends up with 3 of the 4 horsemen in jail. This book follows Michael and Erika or Rika. Rika spent most of her childhood in Michaelās family home. They have a complex dynamic. Michael is older and Rika was never sure if he ever saw her as an equal - that is until the Devilās Night where it all goes wrong. ā£

I donāt want to say too much more about the storyline because itās better if you donāt know much about it to find out for yourself. ā£
ā£
I found the story to be very atmospheric with all the dynamics between the characters adding an edge of danger throughout. The story flicks between past and present which also serves to build the tension between all of the characters. I loved Rika and Michaelās dynamic in the past scenes just where Rika is on that cusp of becoming an adult. ā£

Iām looking forward to reading the rest of the series although this has definitely given me some preconceptions of the other horsemen. Iāve seen a lot of people mention that the fourth book is their favourite so I guess time will tell!
