On the Corner of Love and Hate is the first book in the brand new Hopeless Romantics series. The story takes place in small town Hope Lake, PA. These days coworkers Emmanuelle (Emma) Peroni and Cooper Endicott have a very strained friendship, even though they’ve been friends since childhood. Cooper is currently running for mayor and Emma has begrudgingly agreed to become his campaign manager. This is no easy task because almost everything about Cooper drives her crazy. Keeping him on track is hard, trying to manage his image is challenging because his reputation as being a ladies man isn’t slowing down, and trying to make his campaign scandal free has become virtually impossible. As the campaign progresses we’re given front row seats into how their friendship soured and all the feelings involved. These two could be an incredible team on and off the political circuit if only they could deal with everything that’s lead them to this point...

This was my first book by Nina Bocci, and I look forward to reading more from her. I will admit that this one did take me a little while to get into - but I think that's because a lot of this storyline has to do with politics and I'm not a huge fan of that, and not a lot seemed to be happening. I just couldn't get into it right away.
As we get further along in the story though, we get to know the main character, Emma, more and more, and we uncover more about her past, more about Cooper and her other friends, and more about the town itself.
Told only from Emma's POV, I liked that she knows what she wants in terms of her career, and she stands up for herself, and is a really strong character. But her interactions with Cooper and hr communication with him really needs to some work. She needs to man up and accept, or just plain see, whats going on around her.
That's the whole point of the story though, and adds to the angst that Bocci has built up. I thought the banter between them was funny at times, and I like the other two male best friends, Nick and Henry, and I'd like to learn more about them in the future.
There are alot of strong characters in this book, and once we finally get down to things and see if they're going to communicate properly, we discover more about them. I was hanging on every word of this book for at least the whole second half of it.
I liked the ending, and I look forward to more of this series.

Nina Bocci has been a big part of the book world for years, and after collaborating, On The Corner of Love and Hate is her first solo release - yay Nina!
I live in a small town, so I adore a story set in a small town. I love a friends/enemies to lovers story.
Though our lovelies Emma and Cooper are not on the corner of love and hate - they are pretty much toeing the white line down the middle of a national highway!
It did take me a while to get into this one - I think Cooper at the beginning was so unlikable that he just frustrated and annoyed me. I hated that he had everyone snowed and they all thought he was the bees knees when we could see that he wasn't all that.
And Emma - hoy, make up your mind girly! If you don't want to do something he asks you, don't get sh!tty when someone else does it.
This does have that small town, a bit prudish feel to it (that's probably just me though. It felt more like a bible belt, southern town rather than up in Pennsylvania. I think the only thing missing was somebody clutching their pearls lol.
I did like the secondary characters. and am looking forward to Nick and Henry's stories to come in the future.
I did like that there wasn't toooo much drama or angst - yes, our lovelies had their problems, however there was nothing too OTT or stupid.
I also did find that at times, this story was a bit verbose (look at me, pulling the big words out today!) and could have been 20 or 30 pages shorter.
I liked the story, it flowed well and kept me captivated.
I am now looking forward to see what happens in Hope Lake next.

Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, and for 50% of the book, you get that and it comes through perfectly. From that point everything drags and drags and drags. It’s such a shame because the hate between Emma and Cooper is real. There’s also so much flip-flopping with each of them it gets frustrating. There was also a lot filler about the local town and goings on, some of which I did skim as I didn’t care for it.
Also, for a story that is so focused on Cooper’s campaign, I don’t understand why she never investigated the paper and source of misinformation, as was foreshadowed by the governor’s email early on. The way it was solved was SO unsatisfying.
I also would’ve liked the relationship of convenience aspect to have been played up more, as well as a whole heap more romance!
I really wanted to like this book, the enemies to lovers aspect, as well as the spin on relationship of convenience should’ve been fantastic, but it fell flat.

Loved this latest book from Nina Bocci and will definitely get the next one. Gorgeous story about small town love. She’s becoming one of my fave ‘one click no question’ authors.

Emma and Cooper grew up in the same small town and have been friends forever. Well they used to be friends. Not anymore. But they both love their hometown, so there's that. And when Cooper asks Emma to be his campaign manager for the mayoral election, Emma can't think of a reason to say no. One playboy scandal after another plagues Cooper's image and Emma relishes the opportunity to be in control...of his campaign, of his life... The one thing she has no control over? Her feelings.
For a political nerd like me, this campaign twist on a small-town, haters-to-lovers romance was my jam. I like Nina Bocci's writing style and the town's supporting characters are a trip.
Unfortunately, I just REALLY did not like Emma! Because I found her personality incredibly grating, it was hard for me to root for her love story. If I had liked her better, this easily would have been a 4 or even 5 star read for me. But I couldn't get over it.
However, I loved Nick and Henry (Cooper and Emma's two other friends), and I will definitely read their stories. (Meet Me on Love Lane comes out in a few months and is about Henry!)
(Steam rating: medium. Not uncomfortably explicit but sex does happen)

A Treat for Hallmark Romance Fans
Reviewed in the United States on 22 August 2019Verified Purchase
On the Corner of Love and Hate is a "frenemies to lovers" workplace romance set against the political backdrop of a pivotal mayoral race in the fictional town of Hope Lake, Pennsylvania. It's a charming, mostly light-hearted story that fans of Hallmark romance movies will likely relate to and enjoy, complete with a happy ending.
Emma and Cooper, its two principal characters, have a love-hate relationship that, at least temporarily, is heavy on the hate, light on the love, and fraught with conflict. Theirs is an often-painful journey that's steeped with possibility--but also burdened with unresolved, unspoken, deeply conflicted feelings for one another. Add in their defensiveness and an utter inability to communicate honestly, openly, and non-judgmentally, and it's a recipe for disaster from the beginning until nearly the end. Sometimes I wanted to hug them; sometimes, I wanted to smack them in the head and tell them to grow the hell up. But I felt something, every step of the way. So will you.
Like any good story, the villains are shallow, self-serving, and ultimately doomed to fail. Emma and Cooper are idealistic, intelligent, hopeful, and reasonably lovable, but are also imperfect and relatable. The secondary characters--parents, townspeople, old friends, and co-workers--are quirky and memorable, supporting the MC's while adding depth and setting the stage for two promising sequels. I'm especially looking forward to Henry's story--he deserves his very own happy ending.
On the Corner of Love and Hate is a delightful, thoughtful late-summer read that will happily tide you over until the annual Hallmark holiday movies begin. I hope to see more of Emma and Cooper as the Hope Lake saga continues. I think you will too.

Refreshing and enjoyable story
Reviewed in the United States on 21 October 2019Verified Purchase
On the Corner of Love and Hate by Nina Bocci is a sweet romance set in a small town. Often, this genre can be too predictable and sappy, but the opposite is true here. Bocci delivers her characters through refreshingly witty dialogue.
Emma and Cooper were once friends but something along the way severed that connection. Now, by a twist of fate, and insistence from Emma’s father, the current mayor of the town, Emma must now work closely with her former friend to help get him elected as the next mayor.
During the campaign, which is a major part of the story, I laughed at the banter between Emma and Cooper, but also wanted to shake some sense into them.
I listened to this book on Audible audio. Dara Rosenberg narrated and played out the characters expertly, making the experience of the story all the more enjoyable.

I started reading On the Corner of Love and Hate when it hit my kindle on release day at 4:30 am and because of lifes interruptions I finished it at 2:00 am the next morning. I have to say that I have a special spot for a story that takes place in a small town in my home state of Pennsylvania. This story has a great cast of characters a charming town with the focus on local politics. I love that Emma is a strong, smart and independent; and Cooper is a charming jerk that you just can't help liking. But they are both their own worst enemies when it comes to repairing their childhood friendship. You will be laughing, & yelling in frustration as you read; also thinking to yourself why any sound-minded person would ever run for office. My favorite thing about this story it's surrounded by strong friends & family that have each other's backs and agree to disagree. My favorite line in the book that had me almost spewing coffee everywhere was "if you two got your heads out of your collective asses, you would make the perfect pair." Thank you Nina for an entertaining read.
