Product Description

Maren's stuck at the intersection of heartache and love, but happily ever after might be just around the corner.

After three years, Maren Summers is elated to finally have her dream wedding to her dream man, Kevin Bryant. In her sights is the promotion to weddings she’s worked so hard for at the newspaper. Happily ever after is within her grasp…

Until Kevin jilts her at the altar, elopes with another woman, and becomes her boss. Devastated by the twisted turn of events Maren moves in with her best friend and notices the not-so-homeless guy on the corner, Zane Whitfield. As his heart-wrenching tale unfolds—his vow to wait a year on the corner for his lost love—Maren sees his compassionate human-interest story as her ticket away from Kevin, weddings, and her heartache.

But as the New Year approaches, is Maren headed for heartache again when Zane's lost love returns or has time changed more than one heart?

4.0 out of 5 stars So Sweet! 22 September 2016

When Maren gets left at the altar, she can't imagine that life could get any worse. She moves in with her best friend, learns how to box, and after a few more curveballs, she starts to look outside herself again. She notices the homeless guy in the park across the street, who is not in fact homeless. He is a young guy, whose girlfriend disappeared leaving only a note. He vowed to wait at the spot where they had met for one year. Hoping that she would return.

I really can't imagine a guy waiting like Zane does, but it is very romantic. The characters in this story felt very real. I could relate to Maren and her feelings of betrayal. I liked that she couldn't forgive her fiancé right away (yes, forgiveness is good, but sometimes it does take work!). I wanted to have a best friend like Cassidy, who not only is a great support, but also a pastry chef. I was drooling over the treats that she kept making.

The romance was sweet. I sighed over the happy ending, and need to wrap up my review now so that I can go reread it again. Another great book from Lisa Swinton!

Content: clean (some kissing, mention of lingerie received at a bridal shower, and mention of bachelorette party being held at a strip club)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good not Great 20 September 2016

This was the first book I have read by this author. It was good but it left me a little disappointed. I would have really liked to see the story focus more on Zane and Maren and their interactions. It just kind of fell flat for me. It was a clean read and because of that I would recommend it to friends. I don't see any reason why others wouldn't enjoy the story. It just wasn't for me.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT

MY TAKE
I've read and loved a couple of other books by Swinton, and this one may be one of my favorites. My heart went out to Maren, and I completely sympathized with her reaction to the dumping and all that happened after. I was glad that as she worked toward the possibility of eventual forgiveness that it wasn't an easy journey. Because it's not, but it's necessary.

Zane was a likable guy though his decision to react as he did to his own dumping seemed kind of drama. But everyone has their own way of grieving. I loved how his and Maren's friendship grew over the course of the story and how hard she worked to help him find closure.

Maren's friend Cassidy was a fun addition, as was Zane's roommate Mitchell. I think there could be another book here. *crosses fingers*

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just another fluffy romance 18 February 2017

I read this book based on a previous reviewer that mentioned they liked how the author dealt with forgiveness - and I totally agree. This is not just a fluffy romance book, though it has a great romance story in it. How Maren deals with her ex was just as emotionally satisfying for me as the love story - no quick fixes, and true conflict.

There was one detail that was a glaring eye roll, though - SPOILER ALERT: The main character is reading a blog about a man who was waiting a year for a girl, and she meets a man who is waiting a year for a girl... yet doesn't ever suspect that they're the same person? What, is this a more common thing that you'd never even think that the two might be the same person? It was a good tactic to get past the main character's defenses, but it could have been handled in a more realistic way.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT SO MUCH! 29 October 2016

*Sigh* I loved this book so much! I'm actually sad it's over. Zane and Maren both needed a friend after such unthinkable things happened to them in their lives and relationships. It was so much fun to see how their friendship played out and grew. I wasn't sure that either would get a happily ever after but I loved really the ending! This is what sappy love story books should be made of! It was so good I didn't wanted to put it down until I was done. Amazing, amazing job Lisa! Can not wait for more from you!
