Contract for Marriage by Barbara DeLeo

Property tycoon Christo Mantazis wants the one thing his riches can't buy—the villa where his mother has lived and worked as housekeeper for forty years. That it's the same house he was banished from after being caught making love to the owner's irresistible daughter stirs up old memories, and now he wants her more than ever. Magazine editor Ruby Fleming's not about to give up her home to Christo, the man who broke her heart—until she discovers her mother left half of the estate to him, and she realizes she's trapped. When Christo offers a marriage of convenience, Ruby knows it's the only way for them to get what they want. Ruby needs a link to her past, and Christo needs his mother to retain her home. But it's another need—to have Christo again—that Ruby must resist at all costs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning debut! 17 September 2012

What a captivating debut novel from Ms DeLeo.

A classic marriage of convenience with a twist! Set in Auckland, the story of Christo and Ruby bubbles with emotion. The sexual tension vibrates between them from page one.

A pregnant Ruby has returned to Auckland to bury her mother. She craves to give her child the stability she never had in the home that has been in her family for generations. Christo wants nothing more than to give his mother the house she's called home for forty years. The catch? They must live together, battling building emotion and their obvious attraction to each other. They agree to the marriage so both can have their dreams. Both hurt by each other in the past they battle their building physical attraction, but in a hot, hot scene they give into temptation. But among the simmering tensions is the realization that Ruby is falling in love with Christo, a man who has vowed never to fall under Ruby's spell again.

Christo is hot! A pure alpha-male. Ruby is strong yet vulnerable. They both struggle to trust each other under the sparkling backdrop of Auckland.

I was captivated by Ruby and Christo's story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Kiwi author! 17 November 2012

New Zealand authors, like New Zealand actors, often get glossed over for the bigwigs in the USA and England.

However, Barbara DeLeo makes New Zealand stand out and say, we have talent too!

Contract for Marriage is an amazing story of love, betrayal, and forgiveness that will have anyone in happy tears by the end.

I strongly recommend Contract for Marriage, and am looking forward to DeLeo's next release!

5.0 out of 5 stars You must read this book 6 November 2012

I knew it was a wise idea to wait for a holiday weekend to read this book. You won't want to be interrupted when you step inside the world of Ruby and Christo. Barbara De Leo paints such a rich picture of the Auckland-based romance, that you almost feel the Summer breeze and the hot, humid nights she describes as the passionate characters re-enter one another's lives. There was such detail in the story, yet room for your imagination too! I can't wait to read the next book!

What a debut! Barbara DeLeo completely transported me to another reality with this story. Sometimes that is exactly what we need, to go to a place that takes you away from the day to day routine, with believeable characters, and a intelligent well written story - delicious and purely decadent. Bravo Barbara - will be looking out for your next books

5.0 out of 5 stars I was totally seduced and will read more from this author! 14 August 2013

I read through the reviews and was surprised to see some of the more negative ones. Frankly I was totally seduced by the story plot, the characters of Christos and Ruby, and the high level of sexual tension that crackled between them.

Ten years have passed when her mother dies and a pregnant Ruby comes back to New Zealand to claim her old home; the property that has been in the family for generations; the birthright that she passionately desires to hand down to her child.

Many things have changed in her absence. Her teenaged lover, Christos, is no longer the house keeper's poverty stricken son. Driven by anger at Ruby's perceived betrayal and the need to prove to the world, especially Ruby's arrogant father, that he was more than a mere servants son, he has worked hard, making good decisions and become one of the richest men in New Zealand. Ten years earlier, Ruby's father had banned him from this house when he discovered he and Ruby were lovers. It was beneath his social status to have his daughter dating the son of the hired help. Now he plans to defy his youthful social standing and make the house his own.

To her shock, Ruby learns that half of the home she assumed would be hers is owned by the one man who broke her heart. He thinks he can just pay her out and get rid of her but he has no idea how much she wants to share the foundation of her roots with her child. When Christos realizes that money won't sway her, he comes up with the idea of a marriage contract. They will share the house, sleep in their own rooms and he will take on the responsibility of her child.

Betrayal and broken trust sabotage this contract before it is signed; the signatures on the paper seal a deal for a marriage of convenience between two people who have vowed to never trust each other again, and never open their hearts to love. While they cannot fight their sexual chemistry, they both know that sex between consenting adults is just sex and does not equate love. Can they keep their hearts out of it? They are both determined that they will.

I totally enjoyed the read and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a fast paced romantic read. (PS--this is not a vagina pounder; it is very sensuous and steamy. Perfectly done!)
