Product description

Product Description

While most small business owners network before breakfast and hustle 24/7, Kate Toon took a different approach.
She built her business empire from her back garden shed while wearing pyjamas, watching Netflix and eating crisps.
Kate isn’t your stereotypical entrepreneur. But she created not one but three highly successful businesses without any master plan, rich investors, or input from smarmy sales gurus.
In Confessions of a Misfit Entrepreneur, Kate shares how she went from business nobody to business success. Packed with tips, hints, stories and strategies, it’s a hilarious, honest and non-fluffy guide to being the kind of entrepreneur YOU want to be.
So if you’re sick of trying to do ALL THE THINGS, optimising the crap out of everything and wasting money on expensive six-figure-business schemes, this is the book for you.

This book should be compulsory reading for anyone wanting a good dose of entrepreneurial reality. Kate has a fabulous perspective on what it really means to be a small business owner - at one stage I had to stop reading this book because my husband was trying to sleep and I was snort-laughing. Do yourself a favour and buy this book - and then keep a copy of it somewhere that you'll find it on 'down' days.

I wish this book had been around when I first decided to start my own business. If it had been I wouldnt have been suckered in by glam entrepreneur shots and promises of six figure incomes! Kate writes in her usual, honest and refreshingly forthright manner with some great phrases thrown in! Highly recommend it for anyone wanting to start or running a business.

I love Kate's writing style. She manages to be funny, entertaining and informative, all at the same time. She is reassuringly and refeshingly honest. This book is a must for anyone who runs their own business, or is thinking of starting one!

A great read for anyone worried they don't quite fit the entrepreneurial mould. Enough practical tips to be useful without being a "how to" type read. Kate's sense of humour and Toonisms make it.

I received Confessions of a Misfit Entrepreneur ages ago and I was really excited to get stuck in, so I did, that very night.
Within a couple of chapters I had to put it down, pop it in the pile on the bedside table and leave it there.
Why? Well, it was a bit too real to read in the 'crisis of faith' I was in with my business. I wasn't ready to do the self-reflection it was forcing me to do.
But here's the thing...when I went back this week, I started again at the very beginning - in a much better head space and it was all the things! Reading along there were the snorts of laughter, the head nodding, the turning down of pages to be able to go back to a gem later (sorry to those that can't stand people that do that). Honestly though, once I finished I sat and cried. Finally, someone not only 'got' it but gave me 'permission' or the pat on the back with the tiny T-rex arms to be the Misfit I am. From this amazing work I feel validated and for lots of reasons. I'm not alone in the - wanting to do my thing, loving what I do even if others don't understand, working in my slippers, and not aiming for anything that's not me.
This book is jam packed with fantastic tips and tricks that just make sense, now that someone has taken the time to give them in a totally no BS way.
If you only ever read one 'business' book make it this one. If you have a friend or family member in business (or considering it) gift them this book. Confessions of a Misfit Entrepreneur by Kate Toon is real, fluff-free (as promised), fresh, insightful, and just truly awesome.

Seriously, this book is the best. Kate is so relatable and down to earth, warm, funny, and engaging. I feel like Kate Toon is the richer, more successful version of me if my ancestors had just stayed in the UK in the 1800's and not moved to Australia.
The book itself is laid out with simple steps, each chapter finishes with a handy list of what you should do (according to the industry experts) and WWKTD (What Would Kate Toon Do - #WWKTD).
First, she warms you up by making you feel better about any body image issues you may have, then shares stories of how she built her empire from her back shed, and finally, hands over those golden tips to following in the path of her success. Not only that, but she is HILARIOUS!!!

But, on a more serious note, don't read this book on the train, it will make you snort out loud. And then people will ask you to share what is so funny. And you'll have to stop reading and tell them. And then you'll start talking about how amazing the book is and how much you love Kate Toon and then your train trip will be over and as much as you love to talk about Kate Toon, you'll miss your stop if you don't. And then, you'll still want to read, so you'll try and walk and read and be snorting with laughter and tripping over things and people and it'll be a mess. Not that any of that happened to me. Well, maybe it did, but Kate Toon was worth it. Every second. I'm reading it again and again. You should too.Confessions of a Misfit Entrepreneur: How to succeed in business despite yourself

I love this book!

It's a book about business, about life in our modern, non-stop culture. It's a book about self love, self worth and laughing at yourself. It's a book about staying sane in a fairly insane line of work - being an entrepreneur.
Kate Toon lifts the lid on what its *really* like to run your own business in the era of Facebooks ads, sales funnels and #aspirational #selfies.
Kates' journey hasn't always been easy, and she shares both the highs and woes of her journey from frustrated employee to doyenne of three highly successful businesses. At time vulnerable, thought provoking, and laugh-out-loud hilarious, this book is the first of its kind.
The structure means that you can either read it in one sitting, dip in and out as you find the time, or jump right to the chapter addressing your most pressing concern. My favourite chapters include The rocky bottom; Understanding your superpowers; Ooh, look, sparkly thing; and The real job wobbles.
I recommend this book to anyone who is running their own business, thinking about launching their own business, or trying to figure out how to support a loved one who has fallen down the Entrepreneurial Rabbithole.
This book is a go-to guide and resource that you will want to keep close at hand.
