It was nice to finally come across an American writer who can correctly use "alternate " in a sentence! Characters are interesting and engaging, with a plot to keep you guessing. The poetry is a nice addition, though the attribution of some of it to a fourteen-year-old is not credible. (Ive taught them for years!) It was recognisable as being written by the same author too. Overall, an enjoyable experience.
I'm sorry to give this only 4 stars as I like this author. However, the first two books seemed to revolve largely around Talba Wallis's family history research to discover her father, which I found fairly uninteresting and a bit implausible, having done family history research of my own. The set was only rescued from a 3-star rating by the 4th book, which I had actually read and liked before, and which inspired me to try this set, which proved disappointing.

I started reading these after I got hooked on the Skip Langdon series. I wasnt sure about it when I started reading the Talba Wallis series, but honestly, it didnt take long to get hooked on her. She is sassy and her relationship with her boss is brilliant. I am really enjoying reading this authors work.
