Product Description

A maiden's duty becomes a woman's desire...

Comte Grégoire FitzHenri, the new Earl of Shyleburgh, is known for his prowess as one of the Norman conqueror’s most favored warriors...but not for his romantic sensibility or his command of the English language. Grégoire looks forward to his imminent marriage with his seneschal’s beautiful daughter, his longtime betrothed. But as a rough-hewn soldier, he wishes to enchant the elegant lady before taking their wedding vows—which means an interpreter...and much-needed lessons in courtly love.

The clever Bridget of Shyleburgh has been secretly in love with Grégoire since his visit as a dashing young warrior—when he was promised in marriage to her sister. But when he returns five years later as their new earl, Bridget is tasked with translating for him—including his love letters and somewhat awkward attempts to woo her sister. Mortified at first, Bridget soon finds herself completely charmed by his whispers of love and desire. She never expected such tenderness...or such wicked temptation... from a man like him. Grégoire’s heated missives tempt a fair maiden to stray down a path filled with forbidden pleasures.

But his words are meant for another… aren’t they?

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read 13 January 2016

This story made me feel like I was being whisked away to an enchanting medieval world filled with passion and just enough breathtaking adventure.

I found Bridget to be a very appealing heroine who struggles to find her proper place in the world. Her duties—both given and chosen—often conflict with her evolving desires. Who can’t relate to that? Gregoire is a hero who will leave you drooling! He’s the perfect mix of strength and compassion. But he still has a few things to learn, and that’s where Bridget comes in.

The author’s writing is positively lyrical, and she has some interesting historical touches that give the tale a realistic flair.

If you like historical romance, I think you’ll find this is an exceptional read.
5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average romance 28 November 2015

I love medieval romance and Ms. Wonch's debut novel did not disappoint. A hero who wasn't too boorish or stupid about reading females. A heroine who was intelligent and kind, but not too perfect. And the sexual tension throughout the book kept me turing the pages. Buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Loved this story! Bridget is such a spunky character and I was laughing out loud at least once in every chapter at her antics. This book got me started on a medieval period reading kick and I'm excited for her next one!

I really enjoyed this book. The main characters were interesting. I am hoping that there will be books about the supporting characters who we just got a taste of.

3.5 stars.

This was a lovely story. I don’t read that many historical stories, but from time to time I found one that catches my eye and this one definitely did.

On one hand we have Grégoire, the new Earl of Shyleburgh, who has just arrived to take his rightful place as their Lord. He also came to this place to marry one of the daughters of the former ruler of this place, as per contracted. Anyway, even though he finds his fiancée suitable, he also wants to win her heart, and for her to want to marry him, not just out of obligation. The bad thing is that he speaks French and she speaks English, so they find it really hard to communicate. That’s where Bridget enters the scene. She’s there to be the translator between these two, her sister and her new lord.

Things don’t go as planned and more and more the both of them start to grow feelings for each other, which makes Bridget feel guilty. It doesn’t stop the attraction, though, lol.

I really enjoyed this story. We get so really see what Grégoire is all about, and not just a warrior, but a man longing for a place to call home and a family of his own. I also really felt for Bridget, how she deals with her troubled heart, her sense of obligation and her faith. Poor girl was confused as hell! We also learned about her past, and I REALLY wanted to punch that Samson guy in the nether area. Gah, what an ass.

The story had a little bit of everything, not just romance, but also a few battles, some mean people (Good God her aunt), and some cuteness here and there. It was a lovely read, and the author’s writing really made me feel like I was right there with them in that period. I’ll check this author for future stories.
