UPDATE: 1/31/2020 I recently decided to try a SMALL instead of my usual MEDIUM, and I love them even more! They fit much much better. There is a bit kore fabric on the M leggings and that would bunch up but not bother me much, with the S there is no bunching and the leggings fit perfectly and comfortably, that do slide down or gap, they are still squat proof and long enough for me (5’8).
I bought a M in this, I could’ve got away with a small.
I’m 5’8, about 165lb, 27 in waist and 42 in hips.
I truly am impressed by these, they are so incredibly soft, the waistband is seamless, there is a nice butt contouring seam on the back like lulu. They are comfortable and squat proof. They’re better than lululemon in my opinion because they have a bit of a compression, which I love. I did have to wear a panty liner with these (which I do with any leggings that have a middle seam) and that way there was no cameltoe.
I’ve had the green splinter camo for a while now and just wanted to update this and say that I still love these leggings. They’re both holding up incredibly and I wear them quite often. Still getting size M even though I feel like a S would also work. Quality is the same with the two colors. They’re soft, squat proof, just absolutely perfect.
I also just ordered the leopard/cheetah print. Hopefully I love them just as much.
Definitely buy these. This company is highly underrated.
UPDATE, I love the cheetah/leopard print. Obsessed.
UPDATE AUG 25, 2019: LEOPARD PRINT!!! OMG you have to buy them! See my original review below. I did in fact come back and buy the green splinter camo, and I came back here again to update my review with the camo and saw the leopard print and immediately bought them. They're SO fierce and awesome and comfortable! I mean, LEOPARD PRINT! What else do I have to say?! Buy them. They're absolute perfection in leggings form.
These are AMAZING! Buy them! I came to write a review and saw a new color (the Splinter Camo) and I'm like ugh, now I have to buy these too!
I own 5 pairs of Colorfulkoala Leggings now and I think these are my favorite. They're super stretchy with a good but not too tight amount of compression, very high waisted which I love, contour my body perfectly and I LOVE the way they look. I've wanted some black camo leggings for awhile but returned some other brands. I didn't know these existed until early May 2019 and immediately bought them and I'm glad I did. Worked out hard in them the other day and they were super comfy and supportive and overall just perfect.
I bought these for full price because I wanted them and love this brand. I've reviewed many leggings here on Amazon and quite a few from Colorfulkoala, but I don't get anything for my reviews. I write them to try and be helpful and I'm a leggings junkie honestly. I've interacted with this company in the past when I had issues and they're very helpful, so I absolutely recommend these leggings! For the price, quality and comfort these are an absolute win in my book.
Length -- The inseam on these leggings is 28". For reference, the traditional 7/8 length lululemon aligns everyone wears have a 25" inseam. Lulu also sells aligns in a 28" inseam, but those aren't as popular. You can compare the photos on their website for reference. These are definitely loooooong! I'm 5'6 and I don't mind the length, but I either have to fold the bottoms or bunch them up behind my knees quite a bit to get the 7/8th length I prefer (see attached photos for reference). So if you're tall or like full length leggings, these will be perfect for you! But if you're shorter, you might end up wanting them hemmed. These are full length on me at 5'6, so I'd assume they'd be around full length for anyone 5'5-5'8, and 7/8th for those a bit taller.
Dupe or duped? -- For those saying these are a dupe for the camo lulu aligns... yes and no. Appearance wise, they're pretty dang close. But the fabric is much more compressive and performance slick feel than the buttery soft nulu fabric that aligns are made of. I would NOT call these a second skin or naked feeling like aligns. These are way too compressive and molding for that. A second skin legging wouldn't compress you or hide cellulite. The fabric is like if you crossed lululemon luxtreme and luon together. Slick like luxtreme, but thicker/more compressive like luon (not as thin and stretchy as luxtreme). Those are winder under materials. That being said, these are still thin leggings, definitely not super thick winter leggings or anything of that nature.
Rise -- these are HIGH rise, and they are even slightly higher in the back than in the front, which is really beneficial for bending, squatting, etc. I've had two kids and I have a belly button piercing so I have an extra belly button now 🤣. Most "high rise" leggings cover my real belly button but not my naval piercing. These go about an inch above my piercing. So awesome if you also have two belly buttons or just prefer your leggings high.
Cellulite/sweat -- If you're someone that likes to hide your cellulite, tattoos, underwear, whatever, and don't like looking like you peed yourself, these will be your jam. These hide cellulite and sweat better than ANY leggings I own, and I have tried seriously every brand you can think of. At the same time, they're sweat wicking and breathable.
Sizing -- if you're in between sizes like me, maybe order two to try. I'm a medium 80% of the time, especially in popular athletic brands like alphalete or P'tula. I hover between a 6 and an 8 in everything. My waist is a traditional 6 but my thighs are an 8 and my glutes are a 10+. In these, I tried the mediums first. Though they were compressive, there was just too much extra fabric and the waist was way too loose. I had to hike them up so high that they gave me a cameltoe from hell. I repurchased in a small, and they're a much better fit. They stay in place on my waist now and the cameltoe is minimal/rare. They're a teeny bit more compressive on my legs and glutes than I personally prefer, but I'm the type of girl that likes naked feeling leggings. For reference, the smallest part of my waist is 28", my glutes are 42" and my thighs are 23"-24". These will definitely suck your waist in but might cause a bit of a roll situation when seated if you're in between sizes like me! I don't mind it for cardio but these wouldn't be my pick for an airplane or long car ride like aligns would be.
Would I recommend these? 1000%! For me, they'll be my last pick for lifting days because I don't like anything compressive when I'm lifting. If I'm doing cardio, HIIT or kickboxing though, these will be my first pick. You definitely should have at least one pair in your closet. Depending on your preferences and how you like leggings to fit/feel, these very well might be your go-to leggings. But even if they don't end up being your go-to, they definitely have a place in your workout wardrobe. I'll be purchasing more! For $29 vs $98+ lulu leggings, these can't be beat. They're not my personal perfect legging, but absolutely no complaints!
Colorfulkoala, if you're listening... please make these in the "We are from space nimbus battleship" pattern from lululemon, a white/gray camouflage, a blue camouflage, a blue snakeskin, and black and white stripes like lululemon "quiet stripe".
When it was time to try the patterned leggings, I went with the same XS. However, the patterned version was more compressive than the solid and the XS was too small all over. They were uncomfortable to wear especially on my waist, but also on my hips and legs which should have fit based on the size chart. I returned those for an S and that fit pretty much perfect, and a plus is that the waistband stays in place unlike the solid version.
I bought the Mauve and Black Strokes and it looks exactly as pictured. I love the pop of color the mauve brings, and yet it is still neutral enough to go with most of my tops. The only slight gripe I have is that the patterns are not uniform on both pant legs, but it's not enough of an issue to take off a star. The pants are both squat and sweat-proof, the perfect length on me, and stretchy yet compressive. They truly live up to the 7000+ review hype at the time of this review. I've washed them in the machine twice so far with no issues. Given that I've had the solid version for over 6 months now and they're still holding up well, I believe these will too.
In summary, the Pattern leggings are better then the solid Buttery Soft in all aspects but do go one size up from your size in the Buttery Soft for the Pattern leggings. I am definitely a ColorfulKoala convert and wish that the company would come up with more colorful black-based patterns, I would purchase them in a heartbeat!
More patterned ones in mute tones, please🙂
I purchased 3 pairs of these in different patterns (Black & White Brush Strokes, Deep Grey Camo, and Splinter Camo), all in size medium, and feel they are TRUE TO SIZE. I could have gotten away with size large if I wanted something less compressive, and because I'm a little thicker lately, but medium is still comfortable. I didn't notice any differences in fit or material between the different patterns. For reference, I'm a medium in pretty much every single legging brand I've tried (6 in Aligns, 8 in WU) and my current measurements are about 41-31-42 (bust-waist-hip). As for height, I'm about 5'3".
As for the fabric, I find them to be VERY SLIGHTLY COMPRESSIVE but still super COMFORTABLE. As the description says, they're like a "gentle hug", so you shouldn't buy these expecting anything more. I'm currently lounging in a pair and have zero complaints. You could possibly size down if you want a more compressive feel, but on certain patterns you may find it distorts them or sheers out due to the extra stretching, especially the lighter pairs. If you're familiar with Lululemon, I'd say the fabric is sort of like somewhere between Nulu and Luxtreme; soft, brushed, and comfortable like Nulu, but a little more compressive, sturdy, and pill resistant like Luxtreme. It is a BRUSHED MATERIAL, so if you're looking for something slick that doesn't hold onto things like lint or sweat (or pet hair), these probably aren't for you. I imagine sweat would take a little while to dry as well. On that note, these are made of a THICKER FABRIC so are warmer and heavier than Aligns, but they're still not hot or uncomfortably heavy. Due to that, they don't feel like second skin like Aligns, so I don't agree that these are a dupe. In looks, maybe, but not feel. I just don't know if I'd recommend them for an intense outdoor workout in the high heat since they won't be as breathable as a lighter pair, but I live in Texas and was just as comfortable running around outside in these as I was in my other favorite legging brands (P'tula, Lulu, Yogalicious Lux). Most gyms are fairly chilly anyway! It just depends on your preference and if you are looking for a naked feel or something a bit heavier. Heavier means more durable, so I find these more suitable for the gym than Aligns.
As for construction, all of the seams looked great on my 3 pairs and I didn't notice any sizing discrepancies between the different patterns/colors (sometimes darker colors are tighter because of the dye, which wasn't the case with these). They do have a CROTCH GUSSET that help eliminate camel toe, but every body is different, so keep that in mind! They also have a HIDDEN POCKET on the inside of the waistband. I personally prefer no pocket there because I hate seeing the outline through the pants, but considering some people find it useful, I understand why it's included. It's basically the same standard thing you see in most leggings and will fit a card and/or key.
As for the patterns, my 3 pairs are all really good looking and SQUAT PROOF! I've reviewed lots of other leggings on and off Amazon and I'm SUPER picky about that and don't put up with sheerness. I actually purchased a black pair of the Colorfulkoala leggings with the pockets (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G55R2LB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and had to return them because they were so sheer, so I was relieved to see that wasn't an issue with these. You can check out my review on those as well. That is one big plus with patterns is that it's much harder to see any sheerness since the pattern general helps disguise what is underneath, including cellulite. The black and white brush stroke pair is white on the inside so turns a little white while squatting, but the two camo pairs are dark on the inside and look opaque in a full squat.
As for the fit, they are so flattering! I love the slight V to the back of the waistband because it really accentuates your butt. The WAISTBAND is SEAMLESS (as in there is not an elastic band around the top - YAY!) and does a good job of smoothing your stomach out (remember, these aren't the most compressive). I have not worked out in any of mine yet, but I didn't notice them slipping down much the multiple days I've worn them running around.
As for the length, I should mention these are LONG on me had a lot of extra fabric at the bottom, but since I'm fairly short, I'm used to it and don't really mind. I posted a picture of my ankle to show how they bunch on me. If you're a taller gal, you're in luck! I would still love to see them come out with a 7/8 length or choice of inseams for us shorties, but hey, I could always get them altered.
Overall, for the price I think these are awesome. I wish they were slightly cheaper, but I don't think $30 is too bad. I don't think I'd get any solid colors after the bad experience I had with the pockets version, but if I find another pair of these in a pattern I love, I'll definitely be snatching them up! I hope they keep coming out with more. I'm eyeballing the two leopard prints and the new green camo prints, so if I snag any of them, I'll update with new pictures.
Fit- I'm 5'2 around 125 pounds and I got a size small and they fit perfectly. I carry most of my weight in my bottom half and these leggings hug my curves soo well. They do a great job of being form fitting without being too compressive. They are very high waisted but not in an unflattering way, very flattering and looks good on my small frame which isn't common for high wasted leggings in my opinion. Also, the seam on the back accentuates your butt beautifully.
Material: This is the perfect summer workout material. It's that silky, soft, smooth material that upon first glance you'd think was see through but is very opaque. It's breathable and moisture wicking. No awkward sweat marks! Highly highly recommend to wear in the summer because of how comfortable the leggings are in heat. I put these to the test on a warm summer day and did a leg day workout, and they definitely stood up.
In conclusion, these are some of the best leggings I've ever had and for the price, hard to beat. I can't stop wearing them.
PLEASE PLEASE, come out in more patterns and solid colors in this specific material. Personally, I'd love to see a cheetah print and snake print :)
Sizing: 165lbs 5'8" got a medium!
I own 15-20 pairs of Lululemon pants (because when I go in, I go hard) and after the last 2 pairs getting pulls in THE FIRST WEAR I was annoyed. This escalated to angry when I completed a month-long (not exaggerating) gauntlet of horrible customer service. I REFUSE to go through this all the whilst trying to intercept clearly marked “Lululemon” (*RUDE*) packages before my husband. If you’re going to charge $100 for stretchy pants, have the common decency to put it in a generic mailer for cheese’s sake.
These leggings are not Lululemon. They are nowhere near as soft, specifically comparing to Nulu fabric. That being said, they also seem more durable than wet tissue paper and don’t cost $100/pair.
These are thicker, more durable and more compressive than the Nulu aligns but otherwise are extraordinarily similar in fit.
I was unable to assess seethroughness, but I tried. My 4 year old was very, very confused as she interrupted the failed assessment.
I saw some people mention camel toe / moose knuckle / bikini biscuit / where-the-fabric-of-the-garment-dissects-the-gap-between-the-left-and-right-Labia-majora. I have to say that I did not have this issue. I don’t mean to brag; but I’m well endowed in the majora department so avoiding clam cram has become a life-long area of expertise.
Overall, I like the softness of Lululemon leggings better but I’m willing to part with it if it means spending a fraction of the money for something that lasts longer.
Sizing: I’m 5’2” 120lbs and wear a 4 in Lululemon. Size small was perfect.
For reference I’m a 37-31-41 and 5’2”. I got a size medium. A little bunching at the bottom but not too much.
They aren’t bad. But, they have major flaws to compare to Lulu.
First.... compression is crap. I want things holding me in ALL over. They are tight but not with compression where it counts.
Camel toe. For days. And days. And days. The way the crotch is sewn it hits weird and I will always wear a longer t-shirt. Maybe it’s a flaw in mine?? But my gosh... it’s wack.
Squat proof? I hope so. Seems to be, but they aren’t super thick and camel toe will stand out.
Color is great. Love the look. They pick fuzz up like no other.
I’d buy them again if they were just a little better. For now... I’ll save for Lulu’s.
I’ll update this review if my opinion changes for whatever reason.
