Product Description

Her mind tried to fight a bloody battle against what her body already knew. She wanted him, and she wanted him bad.

On the heels of college graduation and the unexpected death of her mother, Emily Cooper moves to New York City to join her boyfriend for a fresh start. Dillon Parker has been sweet, thoughtful, and generous through Emily’s loss, and she can’t imagine her life without him—even as her inner voice tells her to go slow.

Then she meets Gavin Blake. A rich and notorious playboy, Gavin is dangerously sexy and charming as hell. Their first encounter is brief, but it’s enough to inflame Emily’s senses. When their paths cross again through an unexpected mutual acquaintance, she tries to deny the connection she feels, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome won’t let go so easily.

As she discovers Gavin’s pain-filled past and Dillon’s true nature begins to surface, Emily knows she must take action or risk destroying everyone—including herself. But how can she choose when she can’t trust her own heart?

This is absolutely one of the best reads of 2013. I loved the progression of this story and all the characters.

Gail McHough has done an awesome job writing this book. I fell in love with the characters and hated others.

This is a true love triangle story and the ending nearly killed me, I so desperately want the next book.

You must read this book!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A throat punch novel. 4 April 2016

3.5
This book isn't a stand alone.
It may also cause triggers for some readers of mental and physical domestic violence.
There's references to cheating, and little instances. But they're needed to make plot go round.
Brainwashed. Doormat. Naive.
Those few words described out female, Emily. She's young so I let a lot of her actions slide. She's in a relationship with Dillon, who I'd like to beat down and throat punch.
Can you tell I have quite a few anger issues with these characters??
Emily moves to New York, after her mother dies. She met Dillon while she was in college through a friend. They continued to date long distance, til now. Little by little Dillon controls Emily from her dress attire, to her choice in friends. Emily is just so thankful for all he's done for her and her family, she makes excuses for every circumstance. You end up wanting to throat punch her too.
Then a long comes Blake. He's friends in their little social circle. He's so sweet and alpha at the same time. He's been through some relationship issues in the past. But I think it's made him stronger and more aware.
There were a few slow spots, but other wise the words flowed, and the characters spoke to me.
This type of book usually isn't my cup of tea. I normally read Dark and angst books. So to me this was kinda more towards a light fluffy read that ends on a cliffhanger. Book two is out at the time of this review.
This is my first time reading this author, and I'm off to read book two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and frustrating all at once 25 January 2016

Whenever I get asked who my book boyfriend is, I always- ALWAYS say the one and only Gavin Blake. I met him over 2 years ago- long before Gail McHugh got picked up by Atria books and exploded all over the book world. In that time, no one has been able to knock him from the top of my list (though some have tried, very hard). So I wanted to go back and do something I haven't done in years, mostly because of time...re-read- and fall in love all over again!

All I can say is wow! There were so many little details I didn't remember about my favorite leading man. But as I read Collide the one thing that remained true was how shmexy Gavin is because of how much he loved Emily. It was all consuming and heartbreaking and beautiful and made me want a bottle of wine. It was the small, quiet moments between them that strengthened and solidified their love as timeless.

Now that Emily Cooper- I went back and forth on my feelings for her. I felt for her, her situation was sad and Dillon used it to his advantage (the big jerk). Here was this shy, sweet woman who had been through hell and back and was just getting back to some sort of normal when Gavin had to come in and sweep her off her feet. And thank goodness for that- because when Dillon showed his true colors I wanted to jump into my kindle and give him a karate chop!

There was so much back and forth between Gavin and Emily that my heart couldn't take the angst at times. They so obviously belonged together. But it wasn't all drama and tears. There were a lot of sweet and funny moments along the way. And those two really knew how to steam up the sheets, and the shower and the wall....And that final showdown between her and Dillon had me with my jaw on the floor!

Gail McHugh, wove a tale of love, lies, heartbreak and hope. The characters are easy to relate to and I found myself cheering for them. And with them when things went their way. But that ending, my heart is in my throat and I can not wait to see what is in store for Emily and Gavin next!

I apologize for not reviewing this book sooner. Just reread it again. It pulls at my heart each time I've read it. I get goosebumps, and tears. I feel Emily's pain and Gavins heartache. These 2 books in the series is a must read. It goes to your soul, it opens your heart. You feel everything. Emily is so unsure of herself, and you see and feel it. Gavin reaches for her heart, scares the hell out of her and himself. But soul searching. You will not be disappointed. You will feel it all. It is a must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding love story in part 1 out of 2 27 June 2015
By Linda Murphy on - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Outstanding love story in part 1 out of 2 in this "Collide" duet by author Gail McHugh and it definetly deserves five stars! If chemistry ever exists between two people, this is one tear jerking romance you don't want to miss out on. It's not only a must read but it's that good!....(18+)........Following her mother's death and deciding to leave Colorado for good, Emily Cooper is anxious to arrive in New York City. With pleas from her boyfriend Dillon for her to come to his neck of the woods to live permanently was the toughest decision she ever had to make in her life. Starting a new job in a restaurant was one thing but when her boss asked her to drop off a delivery at Blake Industries, she did it without hesitation. Gavin Blake was tall, dark extremely handsome, rich with a body made for sin but mostly he was known for being an infamous playboy but one look at Emily Cooper in his building, it was love at first sight! As Emily entered the elevator and gazed into those gorgeous blue eyes, she had no idea she was staring at Gavin Blake himself. Ignoring his flirtations along with his pleas of taking her out, she told him her name was "Molly" and that she had a boyfriend as she quietly walked away. As the days went by, Emily had to meet Dillon at a club to meet a friend and she was shocked to discover that his friend was no other than Gavin Blake. Gavin couldn't believe she was Dillon's girlfriend because deep down, he hated Dillon. He was a cheater an abuser and he discarded women like garbage and he warned Dillon that if he ever hurt Emily, he would kill him. After Emily spent some time with Gavin at get togethers, she couldn't stop thinking about him regardless of the rumors and was slowly falling in love. After a huge argument with Dillon begging Gavin to take her home, they shared a long and passionate kiss only to deepen their feelings for the other. As Dillon leaves town on a business trip, Emily attends a banquet given by Gavin's familyan soon after, they remain together professing their love. In a case of mistaken identity in which not really knowing the true story, Emily's heart is broken only because of jumping to the wrong conclusion. In return, she breaks Gavin's heart even more, to the point where he leaves New York for good never wanting to return. Can he erase this woman from his mind who collided into his heart, mind and soul? Maybe where he's going in Mexico, he will have all the answers to all his questions and forget about miss Emily Cooper once and for all........Will Emily follow Gavin to Mexico? You will just have to read "Pulse", book 2 and the conclusion of the collide series........ecxellent reading...It was impossible to put down until the end!.....thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars Where do I start... 28 March 2015

This is stunning. It is not easy to write the love triangle, the cheating, the shadow and reality of domestic abuse without polarising the reader along the way. Gail MCHugh has been quite masterful in her execution of a difficult theme. Emily is walking through her life, holding on to relationships and memories that sustain her after her mother's tragic death. It all seems fairly simple. Move to NY, start fresh, be with your best friend and the man who held your hand and supported you through the most tragic period of your life. But then she didn't bank on meeting Gavin. Here is where it could have got tacky but MCHugh handles it with subtlety minus angst. Yes, the emotional drama toward the end is intense and heart wrenching but the way we get there is a long slow gentle build. It is easy to see why Emily is torn, defensive but deeply tempted. In the hands of many other writers this might make a reader hate her or think she's weak but not in this story. The misunderstandings, the stubborn refusal to open up and step across boundaries, are all handled masterfully. There is all the understanding of the psychology behind the relationships, leaving you knowing why she stays, why she leaves, why she returns, why she breaks, why she loves. Can't wait to read the next book.
