An interesting biography of the life of the project which led to the manufacture of the form of transport now named the 'Segway'.
The text records the processes needed to bring to fruition an invention capable of brigingn about a radical change in personal transportation. Finding venture capital, creating a productive working environment, motivating a team of imaginative individuals are problems which had to be overcome in addition to the technical challenges.
Had the story included some dicussion of the purely technical aspects of the device this would have been my perfect read.

Where inventors' "everyday rubber" meet the road.Reviewed in the United States on 26 April 2013
I have an invention that could equally change the world. This book brought to light the struggles of one man's vision, fortitude, and enlistment of help from some of the brightest minds he could get and the test that they all took together to achieve, a marker, for any who would dare to follow. The vision was the Segway Transporter, that did not meet the expectations of it's founder. We can all step into the time and minds of those who decided to accept that challenge. Although this human transport system is now more a toy for the elite than a device in every city dweller's shed, the vision sparked millionaires endorsements and bankers' backing. Every turn was another test of the originator for he looked beyond where others could even see. He was a visionary who knew the forest was built with trees that did make sound when they fell although there was none there to see or listen. For anyone who has ever shared the thought of having a better mousetrap or who might awaken to an excitement of their own new product, idea, or prospective desire this book is a testament. Within these pages lie a reality shaped by all dreamers... A reflective wake up call.
terrific book, even if you are not a techieReviewed in the United States on 10 July 2003
I am only half way into this book, but I have to recommend it. It makes me want to run right out and buy the Segway to become part of the new world order. (Only trouble is, the thing is too expensive.) But reading about its creator is exhilarating, and it manages to be a page-turner inspite of the fact that it is "real world". If you know an inventor or wish you were one, this entertaining book can give you a flavor for the life of the real thing.
